As for battery life, I have a 2010 model, and there's no way I can get 8-10 hours out of the battery unless it is sitting idle, with the screen blanked.

In *actual* use, I can get around 4 hours, assuming I'm not watching video or using any flash.

So, I really doubt that the battery life is downgraded in the new models.

If you don't like the 13" MBP, don't get one! As for me, it is the only model I'll use, because I like the power and the small size.

How can apple put in SSD in MBP with 320GB Storage and maintain that price?

Intel graphic card was expected from the very beginning as long as apple stayed with intel card.

Everyone complained about core 2 duo, so there apple ditched the core 2 duo. Steve did say if they ditched core 2 duo, 13 sized laptop or under will get intel GPU.

I don't see what the big deal is. Apple charges money for everything including the screen. I knew that apple was going to stay 1280 X 800 resolution. I was hoping for BTO option to go higher resolution, but o well.

The updates are better than I expected.

1. Facetime HD Camera
2. Faster Processor (All of you wanted since 2010)
3. Thunderbolt connector
4. More Storage
5. Faster Ram

That's pretty big upgrade. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Now we have to wait for all the Peripheral MFG's to come out with ThinderBolt devices, however I am looking forward to Thunderbolt, I hate USB 2

I reckon the 13" white MacBook will be dead/removed.

This then means that the 11" Air is the cheapest Mac, and the 13" MBP is aimed at those who want a larger screen, but not to pay the larger prices.

Face it, the "Pro" machines are the 15" and 17". The 13" has always been way more entry-level, and this is reflected in the specs and sales numbers. The 13" Air, especially when it gets updated again, will be the next step above the 13" MBP, but not at the level of the 15".

How can you POSSIBLY state that that's a worthy upgrade for a 2011 premium machine ($1000+)?!?!?!?!?! What is the point of a Sand Bridge processor (which 95% of the users wont use at full potential) if paired with a low-end GPU, no SDD and a 2006 screen-resolution (1200x800 on a 13" screen)?!?!?

I mean, this Macbook Pro is WAY WORSE for 2011 than the previous version was for 2010! Total disappointment!

I sold my 2010 13" to a friend yesterday, with plans on upgrading today no matter what the refresh was.

Now that I see what little the refresh offers, I am strongly considering just getting a 13" MBA. Anyone else in this boat?

It's pretty awful that there isn't a BTO option for a 1440x900 res on the 13" when the Air has it. This sort of just lends more credence to the speculation that they might be phasing out the 13" Pro entirely next redesign.

I don't think so. There are many people, like myself, that really have trouble with high resolution screens. Those people represent a segment of the market which no company can afford to alienate. Keep in mind that the 13" MBP has been their best selling model. Offering both regular and HD makes 'cents' but not offering regular deters some - that is why I was never able to consider the 17".

Anyway, for those that disagree today, you may agree once you get over 40 or 50 years old and understand how eyes can get physically tired :(

I you need or want to buy ur first 13" its good news...

however my $999 microcenter 2010 base 13" does not take so much of a back seat.

Totally. The 1200x800 resolution has finally broken the deal for me. I just dont get what's Apple's business decision behind sporting a lower screen resolution on a "pro" machine (MBP) than on a mobility machine (MBA). I truly dont get it... Apple, WTF?!

cant believe higher res screen isnt even BTO option.

also no SSD for OS is a big bummer on all of these new MBP.

Thunderbolt seems interesting.. good luck finding an affordable NAS whose HD's support 10Gps lol

Probably afraid pushing those extra pixels would highlight the deficiencies of the Intel GPU. :(

13" fans will have to wait for the complete design change in 2012 to see a better system. For many the 2010 version is better. I'm sure a few folks are kicking themselves for selling early. The 2010 MBP 13 value will most likely strengthen today.

Cheers,

This begs the question: what are they going to do when it's time to update the Air? If the Intel chip really can't push that many pixels, then they're stuck leaving that machine with C2D until they literally run out of chips (IIRC Intel has stopped production on C2Ds...). Which also means the Air won't be getting Thunderbolt anytime soon. :(

Right now I see no reason to go for the 13" Pro (new or 2010) over the Air. For me, it would come to portability (Air) or power (15" Pro). The new 13" is just in a weird middle ground where it doesn't do either thing well enough to make it a real consideration...

And I've always loved the 13" Pro, so that's disappointing to me. :/

I get the feeling they are going to ship a ton of MBAs now. But to be fair the 13MPB has never really been that great, it has always lagged behind the bigger models unfortunately.

I dont think its that bad. I mean everyone was expecting the i3 in it. i5 is a heck of an upgrade.

They probably had some left-over 13" 1280*800 screens in stock. And since Apple users are always ready to be ripped-off...

being that the interface was usually the bottleneck for external storage the thunderbolt thing seems like it could be really nice when some devices start coming out that can use it.

Even if the native is 1400 x 900, You can view the screen at whatever resolution you like. ;)

Looks like I am keeping my 2010. It's alright though. It does what I need it to do for college, and it plays all the games I want on decent settings just fine. Definitely don't want to take a step back in regards to the gaming that I DO do, for some faster web browsing, as this machine browses faster than all my buddies PC's. LoL.

Anyways, I think I'll wait until a redesign, as long as it's cool lookin, and if they keep the crappy graphics in the 13", then Ill just up to a 15". Not a big deal, as I connect to an external 22" HD Asus.

I really feel the same way, I thought it would have an i3 in the base model, and possibly an i5 in the higher one, so I think this really panned out quite well.

Everyone realizes that when the Macbook Air is updated later this year it's probably going to have Core i5/i7 with it's integrated graphics, right?

Oh and the 320M is not a dedicated graphics card. I know most of you know that, but it should be pointed out.

Same. I was going to be a day-one buyer. All I needed was a i3 and a 1400x900 resolution on the 13" MBP. I'm not a fanboy (even though I have a 27" iMac and an iPhone 4), so I will have to take my customership somewhere else until Apple brings the 13" MBP out of this no-mans-land it is right now.

Perhaps the new 13" MBP was meant to be an upgrade over the white macbook instead of the 2010 13· MBP?

Same here! Was almost sure of getting a 13" MBP, but hmmm... not that sure anymore..

I was considering a mb air but the air does not have a backlit keyboard which is a deal breaker for me.

If the new 15" had really weighed 20% less I would have considered it. But I love the 13" form factor and will most likely be sticking with the 2010 model. All those rumors raising our hopes...perhaps we'll see some them next year! Certainly the MBA display resolution and anti-glare option would have been a reasonable expectation?

Let's wait and see how the new 13" high-spec model benchmarks with that i7 CPU. Can that kind of processor speed and DDR5 RAM overcome the Intel HD3000's weaknesses in 3D graphics? I just don't see that happening...

If the new 15" had really weighed 20% less I would have considered it.

I don't get it . You should personally take out the word ambition from your dictionnary. How a freaking computer that weighs 2 or 3 kg is too heavy for you ? What are you doing with it ?

I just want to understand .

I was waiting on the new 13" since I have an early 2009 uMB 2.4 with 4GB but now that I see this, I might just sell my uMB and get a Refurb 2.66 2010 model, or even keep what I have for another year as it works well, maybe just buy a new battery or something?

Really not worth the new options for me, however someone else may buy them.
