I bought a 15" 2.7/16GB/512GB retina on Wednesday. I thought my luck was in when I found it had a Samsung display. Unfortunately, it had really bad backlight bleed, and the left side of the screen had a yellow tint.

I got it replaced on Saturday with another machine which also has a Samsung display. No backlight bleed, and the colour is uniform across the screen, but this one has 4 or 5 dead pixels in the centre of the screen, around an inch from the top. Some of the pixels are together which makes them more noticeable.

At this point, I wouldn't mind trying an LG display! :)

Take it into Apple. They will replace the panel (usually with a Samsung) if the problem is as noticeable as you say).

There is no Apple store in my country. So I have to explain it by the phone. I don't know if Apple will plan a pickup or if I will have to take it somewhere for repair. BTW, a friend in France have an LG panel replacement with... an other LG panel. I don't really have time to waste to bring the unit somewhere and I can't stay without my laptop, I have work to do with.

Sure next time I will buy a Retina, I will buy it from online Apple store and send it back until it comes with Samsung panel.

I picked up my second replacement machine on Monday, and this time it had an LG screen.

Unfortunately, this one suffers from image retention (didn't test for it, just noticed it in daily use), and also a weird problem I've seen mentioned in a few threads, whereby, there seems to be lighter and darker patches on the screen. They only show up on light backgrounds, and when you're just looking at the screen, they're barely visible. However, as soon as you start moving windows around, or even just tracking the mouse pointer with your eyes, the patches become really apparent.

Think it's time to call it a day, and just get a refund. Only problem is, I need a new machine, and it's really the only one that satisfies all my needs :(

I just get the new one with Core i7 2,7 GHz, 16 GB and 256 Go SSD. Samsung screen and Samsung SSD. Dual win !
