The new UI is a also a little too unprofessional in more formal corporate settings. I'll probably not install iOS 7 on my phone since I do presentations from it occasionally.
So let me get this straight, you're having an opinion before actually trying it?
Let me be honest and say that I was a little skeptical of the new UI. I agreed it was time for a change (iOS was largely unchanged for 6 years, a testament to Apple's brilliant design), and was willing to upgrade, but not willing to look like a 16 year old school girl. The colors from the screenshots floating around the web seemed crazy to me. I even questioned if this was the begging of the demise of Apple.
And then I used it.
iOS in person, on a retina display, cannot accurately be understood from screenshots. It's a totally different experience on par with the first time I used iOS on a first gen iPhone. All that stuff about layers Ive was going on about suddenly made sense. Most interesting of all is how quickly iOS 6 and apps not updated for the iOS 7 UI looked antiquated.
Now granted, the UI is not completely refined yet since this is the first release, but my suggestion to you is go for it. It's a big change, but a worthwhile one.
EDIT:
I forgot to add that I am in my mid-30s and work in Corporate PR/Communications. My job is basically one long presentation and I am constantly in front of everyone from retail staff to executives. So I understand your point about not looking foolish at work. All morning I have endured nothing but a constant barrage of questions in every meeting about why my iPad looked so different. LOL
