Can't be delayed if a ship date hasn't been announced.

Why do people say this? its the dumbest statement in the world. Just becuase WE have not heard a ship date doesn't mean that apple didnt have one in mind.

They could have very easily have come close to apples "ship date" but realized before they decided to announce it, realized that something was wrong and called it off/pushed it back. Would you not consider that a delay?

Also, why do people vote down every comment that comes close to saying anything bad about Apple on here? -1 now....

The verizon iphone has barely been out a year. I think they didnt want to have carrier wars and verizon probably didnt want to sell millions of subsidized iphone 4's just for apple to release an iphone 5 six-seven months later. Maybe they signed a contract saying that. because then ATT customers would be able to upgrade and verizon customers barely 6 months aboard would be screwed, or verizon would have take a hit and offer subsidized phones to them. Apple, Att, verizon, etc... ALL know that people sell phones private. If Verizon customers were jerked out of an upgrade, alot would complain and potentially switch to ATT. Then flood the market with used verizon phones, hurting verizon on signing up 2 year contracts selling phones for $199.

I think that the June release in general just wasn't going to work now that the phone is on other carriers. They had to make it even release for everyone and get everyone on the same schedule. If it came out in June, then Sprint and T mobile got it in Oct, then they're 3 months behind on all of their iphone contracts as well, just like verizon would have been 6-7 months behind if a new phone came out in June

it's funny to me no one on here is referencing all the threads from Dec 10 and Jan 11 when people were saying "why would i get the iphone 4 on verizon now if theres gonna be a new one in June. They had to push the release back date. The new schedule of phones will now release on all carriers simultaneously so everyone is in the same boat

yes we don't know what apple's ship date is, but basically you're saying people can claim it's delayed as they're guessing what apple's ship date is? that's like saying, it's sunny out, so i think apple will delay the iPhone so they can enjoy a day off in the sun.... lol.

The verizon iphone has barely been out a year. (SNIP)

did you not read the posts earlier in the thread about this? the verizon iPhone 4 has nowt to do with it, here in the UK, who get the iPhone at the same time as the US and canada pretty much, last year O2 lost exclusivity and other carriers got the 3GS in February and those carriers then sold the iPhone 4 at launch. So Verzion getting the iPhone is not a factor in this at all.

Semantics. Let's say your grand dad comes by every year on your birthday to give you twenty bucks. One year he doesn't show up. Everyone's wondering what happened to him. "he's never been late before...".

That's what's happening here. There's an expected release that they didn't meet, so everyone's wondering where the hell Apple is.

If Apple would have manned up in June and just mentioned the iPhone wasnt coming out until October, everyone would have gotten on with their lives. That's a long enough 'delay' that it wouldn't have affected purchaces one way or the other.

You've got it all wrong. First of all: the Verizon iPhone accounts for less than 1% of total iPhone sales (remember: the iPhone is sold all around the world!). It is not relevant to Apple's strategy at all.

Apple released the Verizon iPhone back in January because they knew the iPhone 4 was going to take longer then usual to be released.

haha. Apple did give a release time for iOS5, major iOS versions are released with new iPhones, so that gives us a more accurate expected release. Fall. Fall's not started yet, therefore no delay. fall officially ends in mid december, so we've got ages before we can call it delayed........

I agree.

The White iPhone 4 was considered a delay, the next iPhone being released this Fall is not (so far). I still fully believe that Apple is taking longer this time around because of iOS and wanting to release a unified version for current and future iOS devices.

u sure there not just waiting for dumbasses to buy more iphone4s before the iphone 5?

Just because someone wants to buy an iPhone 4 does not make them a lower intelligence human being. If anything else I would say you are the one with a low I.Q considering you can't spell or use proper grammar in a single sentence.

The reason I believe that its software related is because when the first iPad was released, it had its own software version (iOS 3.2) and it stayed that way for 5 months after iOS 4.0 had already been released to the iPhone and iPod touch.

Then in February of this year Apple released the Verizon iPhone 4, and since February (7 months now) that iPhone has been running a point version behind the other iOS devices.

Now the latest rumors regarding a possible Sprint iPhone is stating that yes Sprint will be getting the iPhone this year, but it will be the current iPhone 4 and not a newer mode.

Sprint Briefing Sales Reps for October iPhone 4 Launch? No Sprint iPhone 5 Until 2012?
https://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/13/sprint-briefing-sales-reps-for-october-iphone-4-launch/

This time around Apple is coding for:
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4 (GSM)
  • iPhone 4 (CDMA for Verizon and Sprint)
  • iPhone 5 (Either Dual Band or GSM+CDMA)

  • iPod touch 3rd gen
  • iPod touch 4th gen
  • iPod touch 5th gen

  • iPad (Wifi)
  • iPad (GSM)
  • iPad 2 (Wifi)
  • iPad 2 (GSM+CDMA)
  • iPad 3 (possibly)

  • Apple TV 2nd generation
  • Apple TV 3rd generation (possibly)

So I believe more time is needed this time around to ensure they can support and release an update to all of these devices at once rather than keep some devices a point version behind again.

I hope they don't because people like me might have to wait. I have an iPhone 4 and got it on release day and if I am eligible for a new phone every 18 months (or 2 years) this means I'll be eligible for a new phone around May/June of 2012, so if I want the newest I'll have to wait a few months more.

Agreed.

Oh, wait, is granddad ok?

Apple released the Verizon iPhone back in January because they knew the iPhone 4 was going to take longer then usual to be released.

You have statistics to back that up? I know the iPhone is an international product, but I have a hard time believing that they account for less than 1% of total iPhone sales (unless you mean *all* generations of iPhone; not just iPhone 4... which isn't really a fair comparison).

Anyway, just because Apple didn't give O2 or other non-US carriers a special treatment, doesn't mean they didn't give Verizon one. You know all those dumb limitations like 20MB app download and facetime being wifi only -- do you really think Apple did that on their own accord? Of course not; they had to give in to AT&T on a few things.

AT&T and Verizon are both much larger than most international mobile companies. Exception would be the Chinese companies. Let's say for example that Verizon did ask for a delay of the next iPhone's launch. Apple would see it this way: Either they could not comply and not gain Verizon as a carrier (therefore losing millions of potential subscribers) or they could delay the phone by a small amount, which ultimately will have minimal impact on their sales (because let's face it, no matter what Apple makes, they won't be able to make enough to meet the demand for a few months)

I'm not caught up on this thread, but apparently the iPhone 5 may potentially be delayed after all:

http://9to5mac.com/2011/09/15/new-york-times-iphone-announcement-in-weeks-yes-we-have-more/

"It appears that the tear-drop shaped iPhone 5 with larger screen and thinner, rounder body is seeing continued design and production delays, at least on one assembly line (Apple has multiple production sources – Pegatron, Foxconn, etc). We therefore think that iPhone 5 will be delayed slightly at the very least and may see shortages all the way into 2012.

The iPhone 5 itself is a sight to behold, we’ve been told. It is impossibly light, yet much firmer than Samsung Galaxy phones which are backed in plastic. The camera rivals point and shoot cameras and will be a major marketing point for this device."
