I think you'll find

That the 2gb of RAM they are talking about is the dedicated DDR5 VRAM on the graphics chip and is completely separate from the system RAM which is currently a minimum of 16GB on the 15 inch macbook pro.....

Thank you for the comparison Snaky69. I am heavily addicted to X-Plane and have been for a few years. The problem for me is, the more realistic you want to make the simulation the more custom scenery and plugins you ad. When you start adding all the additions it starts to slow or crash the simulation. I hate to admit it but I'd sacrifice a lot of other things to get a smoother running X-Plane.

Why not just try to install the Windows 8 on Bootcamp, for better performance, and try it that way? If it is not working - change the platform for gaming computer.

Windows Based Laptop

Would the performance on a high end Windows based Laptop be that far more superior to my current Mac Book Pro?. Have been kind of hoping that Apple will come to the rescue with a new MacBook Pro that does the job, but can't even find any rumors floating around.

Well if Broadwell Iris Pro was supposed to be somewhat comparable in performance to GTX670M, than Iris Pro from Skylake should be even faster. How much? At least 50% faster, due to bigger core count in GPU.

Im not sure it would be as fast as that Gaming laptop you linked, cause the GPU is at least 7 times faster than GT750M in MBP. Of course, not in games, because it scales differently, than in GPGPU.

Intel officially said that new CPUs will be out in Q2 of 2015. I think they just skipped Broadwell, mostly. If thats the case, than we should see new MBPs at WWDC in June.

I can hold off till the fall. Hopefully the new MacBook Pro will have more of what I am looking for. The reason I haven't gone the Windows 8 Boot Camp way is because everything I use the computer for can be done on the MAC side. Also I have a fear of technical support on the Windows side. There is a vast difference between Apple & Windows support. Getting support on the windows based side is just plain scary!

If in doubt, turn down the settings. I doubt even the next rMBP if it ships with a dGPU will have 4GB of VRAM.

It's that just a rumor? Don't you mean 2H 2015 and not Q2 2015?

Edit: Did you mean Broadwell or Skylake?

Utter complete rot. Most Macs have integrated graphics with no dedicated Video RAM.
They use up to 1,5GB of your system ram, even wondered why they tripled the minimum vram use on integrated on the last 2 os x release?🙄

Oh and any 3d app says Hi i dont have vram, you're skrewed. Attached a perfect example of a 4GB gpu running out of VRAM by only using safari and quicklook with mavericks. (iMac with the 780m and a second monitor). Message triggers when you have less than 512 vram free.
And you can easily spot VRAM hogging when you start to see garbled crap on your desktop, quite common with Yosemite.
Some developers had to adapt. For example blizzard had to use hacks for World of warcraft to avoid costant crashes because of piss poor vram management by osx. As results there are performance and image quality penalties I doubt they can overcome until apple does something.
I'm sure OP can play x-plane without these problems with bootcamped Windows.

I have never seen garbled stuff on the desktop. X-Plane says it's working on some fixes that will be part of an update called VS 10.35 which hopefully will listen the problems with yosemite. It should be out in the week or two. If it doesn't fix my issues I may have to utilize Boot Camp and Windows. The problem with using Boot Camp is that I have can't use X-Plane and work on the other programs I use on the MAC side at the same time. This has been the cause of many headaches for me.

The operative words being "up to".

Show me some proof and not a roll eyes and I'll be interested.
