Got lucky and received a 8:35am delivery to a business address...don't know if it was their first stop or not, but it had to be pretty close!

I can sympathize. I ordered at 3am as well, from the Apple Store. It is now 7pm and still no UPS although it's status "out for delivery".
Luckily, I decided I no longer wanted to go with Verizon, and went and lined up this morning and got my AT&T Iphone 5. And it wasn't too bad, I got to the Apple Store at 5am and was 1st in line.
So not too too upset, but if I had been waiting all day to use the iphone 5, took off from work which I had thought about doing (worked from home instead) and not gone out and got one, I'd be very annoyed.

Same here. Got off work around 1:30, went straight to Verizon and was out in less than 30 minutes with my phone. No issues whatsoever.
Well i called them and they told me that they came at 1:55 Los Angeles time, but I was here all day and no one came. I explained that i have been here all day but they just said sorry and told me that i could go pick it up at their facility. I get mad and say ok and hang up.
I call back to ask if i could go pick it up before 6 and the second person i talk to said that the first person i talked to gave me wrong information and that the Fedex truck hasn't come to my area and that it should pass by before 8. I'm going to wait until 6 and call again because my delivery date changed from 21st to 24th. I hate waiting
I got screwed last year preordering the 4S. Sam basically happened to me. I preordered it and waited ALL day. UPS never came, and they brought it the following monday. Meanwhile, my friends all had theirs.
This year, i said FK all that noise. I went and stood in line for a few hours. Met some cool people, got free starbucks, and got high fived by 100 apple employees.

Just have them ship it to your work address if possible. That's what I do with all my shipments. They have higher priority since it is a business address.
I didn't preorder one at all. I went to deposit my check at chase this afternoon and walked into AT&T since they were next door. Asked the lady if they had them in stock. Was in and out in 15min.

I ordered from Apple. A 32 and a 16. The 32 was delivered at 9:50 am. The 16 gig was supposed to be delivered Oct 2, as of noon today it was moved to Oct 5. Unacceptable, cancelled the 16 gig went the local AT&T and picked up a 32 for the wife. Now everyone is happy.
Next time I will go to my local AT&T and pick them up the first day. Less stress.

Still waiting on UPS. My 2 friends got theirs before noon but they had FedEx. I hate UPS. Whenever I am waiting for something from UPS, they take forever, yet when I'm not, they are always in my neighborhood around noon. When I got my Macbook Pro via FedEx, they came at 9am. Littleton, Colorado. Don't know why Apple is having both UPS and FedEx do deliveries. Always has just been FedEx.

Mine arrived at 9:48. (SoCal) The tracking said delivered by 10:30 AM. The driver was in a big hurry because he said his truck was full of iPhones that he had to deliver by 10:30 AM.
Then I went to the mall to scout cases. Saw the giant line at the Apple Store and was pretty pleased that I pre-ordered.
I've stood in line before. Personally I prefer to wake up at my normal time, relax and wait for delivery.

My pre-order came at 9:45AM, but didn't get activate until around 2:30PM EST. Activation server problems.

FedEx has always been more reliable in my opinion. I wish we had a choice of shippers.
ATT decided to f-up my order and didn't know if it would be delivered by the 5 of Oct or later so I went to the Apple store and walked out the door in 10 minutes with my new i5. I still won't be waiting in line next year as my wife's phone came at around 1400.
