I have rewatched the presentation and gameplay footage on youtube. this is what I think:

First party games: They will look and run excellent because they will be designed for the limitations of the switch 2 limitation.

3rd party games: I think the performance will be highly variable depending on how poorly/optimised the fame it. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are the only recently released games that have launched in a state that's optimised. They run well on even a 3060. Meanwhile, some recently launched games, run terribly on a PC with 5070 and 7800x3d. Few recent titles can barely be played without DLSS.

I wish that the Switch 2 would receive PS4/Xbox One titles. They run much better than their remastered version. Good examples are remastered versions of the Last of Us and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. The visual improvements don't neccessarily justify the 30-50% frame rate. For those with older GPUs it's better to play the original. I think the same could be true for the Switch 2.

Sure, it has DLSS and FG but those can'tbe relied upon if the base frame rate is super low or if the device is running the game at potato graphics settings.

Ampere didn’t get FG. Ada Lovelace and up. Unless you are talking about FSR FG, which is trash adjacent IQ wise.

Just used this to get exact stats - So I have played my Switch 2275 hours since I bought it 8 years ago - I used this method to get exact numbers - with Dead Cells absorbing 1500 hours of that and BOTW 355 with Tempest and Akka coming in with 78 and 65 respectively too ! Seems pretty good value to me - roll on Switch 2 !

Wow. So much go unpack. RIP steam deck

Eldenring, cp2077, borderlands 4, Fornite, split fiction and Reanimal.

That's a huge vote of confidence and commitment from publishers. Nintendo will likely sell 150-250m units over the next 10 years. If you are a publisher, you will want your game on this platform.

Best of all, Nintendo has still invested heavily on fun and Co-op game play. I am not 100% decided on whether to buy one, next gen steam deck or Xbox handheld.

I have a few steam titles that I would love to play in ha dhekd mode. However I can sell my switch to dampen the financial hit of buying a switch 2.
Weren't they sort of in trouble anyways? Steam Deck only has 4 million units sold, vs. Switch that has 150 million. Ofc., the majority of Steam users are on laptop and desktop PCs (which according to a quickie search, there are 132 million Steam users, so not too shabby)

I expect PC handheld gaming will grow a lot over the coming years, because games are cheap on them, console games are going up, now under Nintendo they are at 80, on Steam they have sales where AAA titles can be a lot less then half even if they were only released a month before.
Switch 2 will be best for Nintendo games.

"We're using a version of DLSS available for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, powered by Nvidia's Tensor cores," the firm told us.

"The game utilises DLSS in all four modes: in handheld and docked, and the performance and quality variations of each."

ShopTo have been my go to for game purchases over here since the Wii days, and it's who I have Mario Kart and an SD card pre-ordered with. Them and The Game Collection are easily the best here now.

I had not touched my Switch in a long time, had the drift issue with the joy cons. I was not aware they were replacing them for free so did that with Nintendo and got them back about a week ago. I started a new game for Breath of the Wild which is the only real game I got the Switch for. I would get the latest one but it really is not intriguing enough for the $70+ price tag that is on it. For some reason the digital version is more expensive then the physical version and the used prices are still way too high.

Apple will soon come up with a better gaming device.
I love this level of delusion for you ... sadly Apple can't even manage to be the SECOND choice platform for mouse & keyboard centric games!

(I would also love to be wrong, but considering Mac gaming is at its worst place in the 40+ years I've played games on Apple computers, I am doubtful)

My Kids love Apple Arcade
Kiddie toys are not an accurate predictor of corporate strategy.

[edit - leaving the original because it is simultaneously wrong and right ... but what I INTENDED to say was that "kids enjoying simple games are not predictive of a radical shift in Apple's hardware focus"]

its been quiet here :p

who got the switch 2 and what are your impressions?

I'm enjoying mine so far. I am a little disappointed with the screen but it's about what I was expecting at same time.

Leaves room for an OLED switch2 down the road, but thats probably years off. The build quality is great and Mario kart world so far is a blast. Also enjoying dipping my toes in Welcome Tour a bit and Fast Fusion.

A new platform Mario title would make me interested in buying the new console. Like a successor to Mario 3D world or Odessey.

My prediction is that comes next holiday season (2026), but never know. Would be delighted if it were end of this year.

More stuff is definitely coming one way or the other though, Nintendo always supports their systems with their own games.

Yes. A new flasgship mario platformer in a bundle for Christmas would be great.
