And a new console launching in 2017 with one of the launch titles being a port of a PS3 game? (Is Skyrim even a launch title?)
Nope. Its a 2017 launch date.

There are so far only *2* games announced with a release date of March 3. This is looking to be yet another amazing **** up by Nintendo..

Yep for a console launching in 6 Weeks the lack of concrete launch titles is shocking.

Also analysing the list of developers (sorry 'partners') they showed off, well it too was misleading. As some of the games that were announced were by and published in conjunction with 3 of those names on the list. So what fitst seems initially quite a big list of developers (so surely there must be lots of games right) suddenly becomes quite small pool ... likewise many were third party game engine / tool producers for developers, so likewise can't be counted as indicative of game quantity...

Then factor in the indie developers whom Nintendo always count towards in their games in development figures and you have to wonder how many 'actual' AAA games are in development, not only from Nintendo but crucially the third party developers ?

And then remind yourself once more .. this is launching in 6 Weeks time !!!!

So much emphasis on the joycon controller, so little emphasis on what gamers buy a console for .... It was motion control over quality control all over again ... it seems to me that Nintendo haven't learned a thing.

I have no doubt there will be fanboys screaming innovation and burning effigy's to their Ninty saviours, but as the Wii U proved, those people do not represent the masses and appealing to that same subset once more seems like madness.

Whilst motion controls gimmickry sold consoles nearly a decade ago, the landscape has changed dramatically. Sadly Nintendo's foresight hasn't ....

Holy cow .. GameStop.ie pre-order price €499 !!!

They are taking the pee right ?
I'm seeing the same prices here in Sweden, but there are disclaimers saying this is only a placeholder number to make preorders possible until they get the actual price. Hoping for €349 here... (3490 SEK).

The price, the specs, the poorly edited trailers making games look worse than on Wii U.

Ooooh boy.
Well, the Zelda trailer was just as amazing as the Twilight Princess reveal back then, and the Super Mario trailer was also awesome IMHO. If I get the system, these two are definitely the first I pick up.

I skip Nintendo presentations since I always think they are amazingly bad, so can't speak for everything else. (Really, Reggie Fils-Aimé is just about one of the worst presenters I've ever seen, despite that he clearly has had a lot of training in how to do it)

Hopefully so. At €349 it's pricy enough but the €499 would be commercial suicide ...

Since they specifically stated that prices would vary for resellers in Europe, I would imagine that its a bundle with Zelda and a Pro controller.

I mean, its practically the only game for the console at launch anyway, so who wouldn't buy Zelda with it anyway? :p

Found a differently worded info blurb on the price, on one of the biggest vendor sites. This one states explicitly that the actual price will be lower than €499.

Price has indeed changed to €320 on GameStop now. I have pre-ordered regardless as I only have to pay €5 down and if I cancel it's not a big deal. I will not be buying at launch if there is only BOTW and that poxy party game, and will simply just cancel and put the €5 deposit towards BOTW Wii U instead, but just in case (ever hopeful that there is a torrent of games announced on the treehouse events later) .....

Check your Facts please, there are more titles announced for March 3rd:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • 1-2 Switch
  • Skylanders Imaginators
  • Just Dance
  • Super Bomberman R
  • I Am Setsuna
I admit that Skylanders and Just Dance are trash, but the other 4 do have potencial.
Especially since we didn't have a Bomberman game in years.

I have checked my facts, I just thought it obvious that I was talking about first party titles, hence why I named Nintendo specifically.

Wait, 1-2-Switch is a $59 game o_O I thought it was a pack in game. Well, enjoy Zelda and 1-2-Switch for the next 6 months lol. Two games at launch, and that's counting that 1-2 game, whatever it is. Mario looks amazing, but I'll count on it being a holiday 2018 title.

I realize the urgency in releasing this console, but is it really a wise decision to launch it with two games.

Wow seems preorder has sold out at Target, Best Buy, and Amazon. Either Nintendo is sending two consoles per store, or scalpers.

I will no doubt buy day one.
I am a Nintendo fan boy, and I will be weak.

But the presentation left me disappointed in parts.
Mainly the lack of any killer release titles outside of Zelda.
Everyone knows console launches never bring the best games, but it's always the same.
Why can't someone buck the trend and give people what they want at launch.

Hell, even Mario Kart Deluxe would have been welcome despite me playing to death on the Wii U.

As it stands I have my pre-order but part of me is tempted just to cancel it because I know tat waiting for a price drop (inevitable) and more games by end of summer would be the sensible option.

But I'm just a sucker for new Nintendo.

Would have been nice to have seen the OS in use or at least more information on it. Is there going to be an achievement system in place to mirror that of XOne / PS4?
Feels like all of these things should have been discussed in the presentation given the imminent launch, but nope.

Outside of the Mario and Zelda trailer, I still felt like I wanted more.

Debating if I should swing by Gamestop to put in a pre-order...or just wait.

I was hoping my mind to be blown, but I found myself family asleep half-way through the keynote. smh.

How many times have you said something like this, and ended up buying at launch? :p

Although, you did cancel your PSVR preorder a few months back... ;)

LOL. I know. But yeah I did go through with the PSVR cancel and have no regrets cancelling it.

BOTW runs at 900p on TV .... I wonder what the Wii U version will output at ? (will they gimp the Wii U version to make the Switch 'seem more powerful than it is'.

Not to take the thread way off tangent, but, I've thought this ever since the first time I saw him present years ago. For a guy who's job it is to stand in front of an audience all the time (board members, VP's and upper management, workers, etc.) he looks so stiff and uncomfortable speaking, which translates into robotic, unexciting presentations that look over-rehearsed.

Given the reports of Nintendo's online subscription which won't even be ready for launch in Europe (echoes of Nintendo TV on Wii U and we all know how that turned out in Europe) its online / achievements and all that still seem a mess sadly. Heck the reports seem to indicate their subscription service will only give users access to a SNES or NES game each month, and only for the month ??? Compare that to PSN or XB-Live ??

Given so few games are releasing, honestly I don't know why they are launching in March at all and rather push it back till Winter 2017 and launch with Mario too.

Well, to quote MRU, Gamestop here seems to be taking the pee...went to see about pre-orders, and all they are offering are marked-up prices and bundles where I'm not even sure the game will be ready...
[doublepost=1484317883][/doublepost]Ok, the Treehouse presentation is now live (0930 Eastern time US).

Exactly. Unfortunately most Nintendo board members aren't that much better. I still shudder at the Wii unveiling, where paper pushers were playing with motion controls...

There's a single screenshot out of the OS interface, but it is so simple and bare that I think it is a placeholder to provide a sense of direction of where they are taking it. One thing was apparent though, no button for Miiverse.

Yeeesh, this is bad. Very bad for Nintendo.

Seems rushed if you will?

Add in Nintendo joining the pay for online which I am fine with but they were already behind the 8 ball in comparison to other consoles.

Seems this is going to hit a very small, specific market which Nintendo seems to thrive on but a very lackluster presentation to launch a new title. It was a mess and seems Nintendo is holding way too much under wraps maybe waiting for E3 which is a major mistake.

I may eventually get one but I need to see more titles and repeats from other consoles isn't going to do it for me.

So as far as I can tell, the FP games from Nintendo with actual dates will be:
March 3 -- Zelda BoTW & 1-2 Switch
March -- no date -- Snipperclips
April 28 -- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Beyond that everything else has a squishy "Summer" or "Holiday" 2017 release date. Still no solid word on 3rd party titles, but that will come after Nintendo is through with all their initial announcements.

So, if they do it right (what are the chances of that?) they release in March with great fanfare, build momentum over the Summer and Fall with quality releases (Splatoon 2, ARMS), and then have a great Holiday season with Super Mario Odyssey and 3rd party titles...

...and if they don't...well, we've seen that before!
