any benchmarks?

i am still thinking about if i should buy a 12" ibook. and i know that it is a lowend notebook. but i am not sure if it is too slow for my needs. a friend told me that even on his 15" powerbook (1.25 ghz) he is seeing tiger's beachball far too often.

dear owners: would you please post some benchmarks to compare it with other notebooks. what about some xbench results?

thanks! i really would like to buy one because i want to get rid of my dell. perhaps i have to wait until they arrive in stores in europe to test them.

i had ordered the old one upgraded, but they gave me the same specs, refunded me some money, and are sending me the new one! yayyyy! :D

how is it with CoreImage? Do you see the ripple effect when you open up widgets in Dashboard? Is it speedy in general?

guess it doesn't matter, i'm ordering mine the second it's up on amazon.com :)

Oh yeah, the ripple effects are so pretty.

but I do want to up the ram from 512 to 1.5 gb once I get some more cash. It could use more ram, but it's usable as it is.

hmm..."usable" aye? Makes me wonder how ibook owners got by with only 256 stock mb a week ago!
 
I just got my 14" today, stock configuration. Just a few hours ago. I LOVE ITTT!!!! It has the ripple effect!! Yaaaaay! The screen is beautiful! I can't say enough about this wonderful and amazing machine! This is my second Mac. I bought it at a brick-and mortar Apple store. You guys will be sooooooo happy when you get it!!!!

What was your first Mac and how does this compare in performence?
 
I've heard the screens are much brighter than with the previous 1.2 GHZ models. Is there any truth to this?

I'm using the 14" iBook right now, and I must say that the screen to me feels brighter than the 12" ibook (b4 this last update) and 12" powerbooks that I've used in the past. It doesn't feel dark at all, it's very comfortable to read. Although it may have felt uncomfortable when I used it in not-so greatly lit/too brightly lit stores. But the brightness is fine. Though if someone tries out the 12" we can see if it's true for that one as well.

I haven't heard that at all...but now that I have I am very very excited! please please comfirm!

Yes, they do. I have noticed that unlike my Mac mini with 10.4.2, when you download a widget it automatically brings it up in a little preview window in dashboard and asks if you want to install it or not! Amazing!! :D

PS: I couldn't get the one of the actual dashboard for you. I just got this one. There is another little confirmation window in the dashboard that displays the widget and ask you if you would like to keep or delete. ENJOY!!
 
This was posted on the other new iBook thread by macrumors1234 discussing his new 1.33ghz 12" ibook:

"But for those who are worried about the screen, I can definitely say that it is significantly brighter than the one on my iBook 1.2. Not that I had a big problem with the old screen, but I know that some have complained wrt the brightness of the old one. To put it another way, it's not longer as blindly obvious (in terms of brightness) when I switch between my new iBook's screen and my Hitachi 17" desktop LCD monitor. Hope that helps."

Needless to say, thats some very good news
 
wow - fast service!!

i ordered my iBook and iPod mini earlier today, a little after three o clock pm. WOW!! just checked my order status. the both the ibook (12" stock) and iPod mini have shipped! estimated delivery tomorrow! gotta put stuff on my external HD now, getting really excited :)
 
so the screens are indeed brighter than the older ibooks??? thats great news to me, when i went to go buy one yesterday the guy at the store told me everything was identical as far as looks. they only had the old ones on display so i was mainly disappointed in the brightness of the screen. can anyone else confirm this?? maybe if someone has both an old model and a brand new one you would be so kind as to take a pic with the 2 ibooks side by side??? thanks

My 1.2 GHz iBook G4 (12.1") had its display replaced in late May. Before it was replaced, it was about as bright as the one in my brother's 1 GHz iBook G4. Now it is much brighter.

I ordered my Ibook while the us store was still offline (european stores were already working) and my order is still "processing" - not even sent to manufactoring :(..

Oh and for those wondering about the 12" iBook vs. the 14"

The 12" still does not offer a Superdrive Grrrrrrr

New 12" iBook, standard config. Will upgrade ram later.

Sitting in the trunk of my car. Going golfing. Will post on new thread tonight, with pics and all.

Very happy with service at the apple store (Yorkdale).
