Is there an empty RAM slot available or did apple fill 512MB of RAM by giving us 2x256MB sticks?

Think about how you could answer this question yourself.... why dont you go to the apple store online and look at the maximum ammount of memory you can put in the ibook if it says 1.256 than that means they use two 256 sticks if it says it's upgradeable to 1.512 that means they use a single 512 stick...

I think im going to pick up the new ibook 12".

i sold my 1st gen ibook g4 (800mhz) a month ago for $1050 canadian, so picking one of the new ones up for 1379 with a free ipod mini is a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

What is the Canadian-American currency conversion rate... in other words how much is 1050 Canadian worth?

i ordered my new 14" at the North Point mall location in Georgia (got the tax free deal + the new ipod mini for free)... i had to order cuz i didn't want a superdrive (i already have an external one)...

i had to call apple though because online it said i had cancelled my ipod mini order... they said they had to cancel it and reorder it so i could get the tax free deal... has this happened with anyone else? jw... hope everything goes okay i can't wait to get it

anyone else selling the free ipod mini so the ibook will be "cheaper"???

Yikes, 41?! My 933Mhz quicksilver gets around 120.....I hope it was just busy indexing or SOMETHING! AHHH!
I hope so too, because that's an awful score.

I also ordered my iBook during the tax free weekend here in Atlanta, and I had the same problem with my mini order being cancelled. I called them up and found out it hadn't been cancelled -- they had just created a new order number for the mini, a separate one, since the mini didn't qualify for the tax free deal. But all was good, don't worry. I got my mini in the mail just this morning! :) The iBook is still in manufacturing, though!

I'm finally back!

I just ordered my new 12" iBook (stock configuration) and got the free iPod Mini with it! :D

I'm finally back to Apple. This is my first Mac in years (Second Mac in general). My first Mac was a Macintosh LCIII with 80 MB hard drive and 4 MB of RAM! My dad got it when I was in grade 3, now I'm a second year Computer Engineering Student.

I got a similar score on my new iBook.. I think it's because of this:
http://www.xbench.com/
1.2 [2005-07-30]
* Built as a Universal Binary to run on both PowerPC and x86 Macs
* Re-calibrated 100 point baseline to a 2.0 GHz G5 running Tiger
* Altered graphics code to flush only every 1/60th of a second, in order to cooperate with Tiger beam syncing
* Built Intel code on GCC 4.0, PowerPC remains on GCC 3.3 for 10.3 compatibility

So looks like the new xBench has been changed so a score of 100= 2GHz G5. No wonder my little 1.33GHz G4 doesn't measure up. ;)

Hi guys,

I never waited for the iBook's to be released because I initially wanted a powerbook. But this weekend I couldn't resist and ordered the 14" model with 80gig drive + the bluetooth mouse! This beauty machine will do very well for me the next 2 or 3 years.

I ordered on July 30th and got shipment confirmation on August 1st.

Now: today the new might mouse was released. I wrote Apple an email saying I want the might mouse instead.

Even so I wrote the guys an email I am not sure what is better. Cable and 4 buttons or bluetooth and 1 button. Arrrrggghhhhhhh   :( :(

Maybe you guys have some thoughts.

And: I would really appreciate any Xbench scores or pics.

Cheers

Thanks - I guess you are right.

Isn't there an old version floating around? If someone has it - maybe can send the new iBook owners by mail.

Thanks and Cheers

OLD xBench results on my new iBook

Okay, here's a real comparison. Dug up a copy of xBench 1.1.3 (which is same used in the benchmarks listed above for old iBook/pBooks)
Here's the scoop! (was on battery power, but set Energy to maxPerformance with no apps actively running. Didn't bother to squish individual processes.) Looks like it comes in faster than the old iBook, but below the old 1.3GHz pBook.

My iBook came in at 38.29. that's lower than what some other people have posted...not by much though. i had bluetooth connected, too, and airport express also connected. i'll try again later without any of that.

My iBook came this morning at about 9:30AM EST, shipped on the 28th, and got it a day ahead of schedule. (Supposed to be August 3rd, 10:30AM) I'm loving it, I like the thinner keys as well.

I love my ibook!

Okay, I know that this thread has been dormant for nearly a month, but I just got my ibook yesterday (waited till MA tax free day, then had to wait for 80g HD and was out of town when it finally arrived) and I had to share my joy. I am so happy with this machine! Granted, it's the first computer I've owned that can get on the internet. My last machine, which died in 2001 was a Sharp 486DX. I bought it refurb when pentiums came out for nearly as much as my new ibook. How times have changed. Since then, I've been limited to friends' and famiy's machines, as well as libraries and school, so perhaps my excitement has to do with my new found freedom, but I'm also loving tiger. Everything is right where I need it, and easy to figure out.

Thanks to everyone in the "New ibook next Tuesday?" thread for all the info and support over those long months. I learned an awful lot from you. In a way I'm glad that it took so long, because when it finally came time to buy, I was very well educated about my needs and knew just what to get. Also, though a lot of you were knocking this update, the two finger scrolling alone was worth the wait- I can't imagine having to scroll the old fashioned way.

So once again, thanks for being such a great community. I'm glad I can finally be a mac-owning member of it.

mine just came today. this morning. 9:30 am.
i've been tinkering with it all day. got my wireless hooked up so i'm good to go. once i sync my pod i'll be all set.

sweet, i also have joined the ranks of the .mac army. 12" iBook. just picked it up last night at 8pm. this website may have single handedly convinced me to make the switch. thanks.

I think one button mice are really cool. But either way, both are cool.

I really enjoy my mighty mouse that I got for my iBook. It's great for when it's sitting on the desk as I like the options of the second button without hitting an extra key on the keyboard.

finally got a 14" iBook(first mac ever). i opted for the 14" since it will also serve as my desktop. i lurked on the boards for a while before deciding what to do. lovin' OSX so far.

I got mine the other day. Works fine, but it has a small white blotch just slightly off from the center of the screen. I'm more concerned with the DVD drive, which makes a KERCHUNKKERCHUNKKERCHUK noise for 2-3 minutes after inserting a movie, hanging the system in the meantime. It also hung up again halfway through the movie I tested it with (The Matrix). I'm guessing that's not normal?
