So now we have a desire to ban official threads and feeler threads...the towns people have spoken.
That would be the "Official Slay the Monster" thread...

Where all the townsfold grab their 9s, Mac10s, some gasoline and go out to take care of the monster.

Of course it beats making the threads "sticky" which conjures up all sorts of odd images.

Well, technically, official threads DO work.

How many Family Guy threads were there? Since I started the official thread, there were like 2 new threads made since then.

I think having official threads limits the thread spam, instead focus firing it all into post-spam, which is less painful to the casual forum browser. :D

Im getting tired of all the fluff threads, it seems like a lot of them have popped up over the past few weeks

No we still haven't come up with the true "fluff" threads.

"What to do with dryer lint?", "How much belly button lint do you have?", "Best way to whip merringue.", "How do you like your marshmellow fluff sandwich?", etc.

But yes a lot of spam threads by bored people lately.

There should be another section in the community area, like the Political one, where post count does not matter and these type of threads can go. Problem is it would be hard to decide what is deeming the "Official" stamp of approval and what is standard community discussion. There are a few officials that are pretty cool, but there are also a lot of lone threads that don't need to branding and do fine with zero repeats (prime example is the monthly desktop threads).

i dont mind people padding their post counts... why is that always such a concern...?

i obviously don't' want spamming... but most people here seem overly concerned about other people having more posts? or something?

and what'sa fluff thread? isnt that everything in 'community discussion' when this is a mac rumor site?

The reason many people are concerned with people "padding" their post counts is because that often leads directly to spamming, especially when some non-l33t n00bs (I've always wanted to do that....not really) join and see the non-Mac related discussions, and then reply to each one individually and have zero input, arguably, to the overall site save for witty remarks. There is nothing with post counts overall, as along as people respect what seems to be an appropriate restraint I guess. As you said, the community discussion is mostly "fluff" when compared to the overall purpose of the site....arguably. Although this is made as a Mac Rumor site, hence the name, it also has a very strong community and caring people....those aren't built by simply discussing computers ;)

right-on. i completely agree... i just don't think we should all start judging what is fluff or not...

heck, we've had 'do you shave' threads that had 100+ responses! we like to talk about everything around here...

i just don't want the threads to be so official ;) :D

Agreed. There is no point to having such official threads, but I in some cases they do help point some less-familiars in the proper direction and avoid 8 threads about the same topic.
Now if we could only gather all those PowerBook Tuesday threads into one Official thread :p

"definitive" is a better way to describe these threads, rather than "official"

While official implies some sort of authority or sanction, definitive is defined as: supplying or being a final or conclusive settlement; "a definitive verdict"; "a determinate answer to the problem"

I would say these threads tend to be a central thread for all conversation on the selected topic, and therefore they would fall into the "definitive" column.

Thus, within a shadow of doubt, all "official" threads should be renamed "definitive". :D
