very very very excited to say the least

I ordered my 15" Powerbook with the 7200RPM hard drive and a single-chip 1 GB over the phone about five minutes after the store came back online.

Today's status: On FedEx vehicle for delivery!

I cannot wait!!!!!!

Oh man, can't stop checking the Order Status page. My 15" PowerBook hasn't shipped yet, but it changed from 'Manufacturing' to 'Preparing to Ship' sometime between yesterday and this morning.

I got the gig of RAM (1 stick, so I can upgrade to 2 later), 100 gigs @ 7200rpm HD (so I can fry eggs on this thing :D), and SuperDrive. Can't wait to compare it to my current iBook setup!

Waiting is so hard..

Update

It just shipped today! Hopefully tomorrow or the day after I'll have it!

got my first mac, beautiful 12'' PB
not latest model (though there is no different cept software upgrades)
runs beautifully, won't ever go back.

so no, i'm not waiting...but have been for months :p

It's here!

I'm typing this from my brand new 15" PowerBook, and it's soo beautiful. Mac OSX works like a charm. I'm a very happy switcher...everything is so gorgeous on a Mac! :D

Ordered a 17" PB with the 7200rpm HD

It didnt go through until Sunday due to my credit card company being overly paranoid - but it's still "Sent to Manufacturing" right now.

They need to "manufacture" faster . . .

my PB is in Indianapolis for a clearance check.

the estimated ship date is still set for 10/26 so i hope everything goes smoothly. if i can recall, Indianapolis is a major fedex hub and whenever I have ordered anything that goes thru Indianapolis, it always gets delivered the next day. here's to hoping! :)

can you tell us if the hard drive is a seagate or a hitachi?

seagate

7200RPM with 8MB cache... very nice!

is it quiet? does it go on a lot? is the fan on a lot?
:)

The whole machine is very quiet overall... when I read the question, I had to ask if the fan is on now (yes). This is maybe the fifth time over thirty hours the fan has been on.

You can hear the disk access if the room is quiet and you are listening for it. With the loads of ram and disk cache, though, the disk accesses are fairly far apart unless you are doing major work.

I ended up naming the computer Raptor (I name computers after airplanes), but in retrospect, perhaps I should have called it Stealth.

Wow...these things ship pretty quickly huh? I was expecting a week or so from order to shipment and receiving unless I'm reading the posts wrong.

BTW, hopefully someone can answer my question without having to create a new thread:

Are there any accessory sets out there that offer plugs for the different ports on the PBs? The DVI, USB, FireWire, etc.? Those things tend to collect dust.

I ordered my BTO 15" PB with the 7200 rpm hard drive and 2 GB RAM last Friday, and it's going to be delivered to my house tomorrow! I checked the order status and it has arrived at the distribution center, in the sorting area. Hooray!!

Tomorrow will be a big day, as I will be getting some other things I'd ordered online, too, so I'll have the Fed Ex guy in the morning and the UPS guy in the afternoon!

Have a look at Radtech "Portectorz" They're new and from what I can see are a silicone port covering thingamabob.

OK, the customary pics of unpacking and of the system itself would be very much appreciated. Maybe a few System profile screen caps (just blur out the private details and show us all the specs.

Plleeeeessseeee?

received my 17" this morning. one dead pixel. heh

no biggie, i think i can live with it.

Re:

Ordered my 15" pb from my university bookstore this past monday(to avoid sales tax, which was like $180). Should be maybe by the end of the week if not next week.

mine's in indianapolis now. supposed to be here (new york) tomorrow morning... i'm hoping for a late afternoon delivery :D

FedEx came around 9:30 instead of 10:30 today so I wasn't there...

They'll come back tomorrow again around 4:30.

Don't really care because I won't be back til Friday from college.

How do you check to see if there are any dead pixels? If you did mind, would Apple replace it with another new Powerbook?

PB15 w/7200 arrived this morning.

My 15" 100GB/7200 w/2GB arrived this morning - 7days from placing the order.

I put similar first impressions elsewhere, but I'll say some things again:

This machine is smooooth - and I love the display res - loads of space.
It wakes from sleep almost instantly.
The machine is silent. I cannot hear the HD at all.
To confirm what others said, HD model# is ST910021A.
The ambiently-lit keyboard is hypnotically beautiful when it lights and fades.
It connected to (someones elses) wireless seemlessly (allowing me to type here ;-)

Some 10.4 features I like:
Just downloaded some photos off my camera, and used Preview to show a slideshow - loads of new effects/features that I didn't have under 10.3 - I like 'em! And no bugs like with the iPhoto slideshow (early version).
The dictionary function is ace! - it seems to work with text anywhere!
Still playing with other stuff :)

In short. I had been waiting for these updates for far too long, and in the end, they were minimal, but at least it got me to finally buy. I am VERY happy I finally did :)

Only one problem: It won't recognise my shuffle... This is concerning. I want to use it as a jump-drive. I copied files onto it from another comp, but this one doesn't want to play... any ideas?

Peace, Matt

I didnt order my 12 inch powerbook online but i am waiting for the opportunity to go down to the apple store to buy it. I CANT WAIT!

i noticed it when the powerbook first started up. its about 3 inches to the right from the center of the screen. no big deal.

Exactly what I was looking for...though pricey.

Seems quite a few of your PBs are here in Indy. Maybe I'll just raid the facility and take a few for ransom. Saves me the trouble of ordering and waiting on mine to come in.

Good to hear that the 100 GB 7200 RPM drive is running quietly.
I'm trying to decide between a 5400 and 7200 RPM drive. Has anyone got any experience between the two? Is a 7200 noticably faster and is it worth forking out the extra cash, or could I do just as well with the standard 80 GB 5400 RPM drive and perhaps in a few years time upgrade myself to a much bigger drive?
The drive options from the Apple store seem a bit expensive to me compared to what drives cost elsewhere.

PS: can someone tell me how much disk space MacOSX together with all the pre-installed software takes up?
