The Official "I'm waiting for my new PowerBook or PowerMac to arrive" thread

i noticed it when the powerbook first started up. its about 3 inches to the right from the center of the screen. no big deal.
I would be extremely pissed off if I paid $2500 and waited weeks for a computer that came with 3 inches of dead pixels. If I were you, I would call Apple now and ask for a replacement.

It's one dead pixel 3 inches to the right of the center of the screen. I'd imagine he would exchange it as well were it a 3 inch dead space.

lol...if i had 3 inches of dead pixel space, i would go ape $%&!! yeah, it's just one dead pixel. i barely even notice it. my thoughts are this...

if i try to live with it and i can't, i will call apple and tell them that i have TRIED to live with it but i cannot stand it. it bothers me. what are they going to say? "too bad, it happens." i tend to believe apple would probably do something to make it right. i could be wrong, but i think it's better if you try to live with a dead pixel rather than call apple immediately and demand a replacement. thats non sense. at least give it a try.

I'm typing on my new PB!

When I went to leave the house in the late morning, I was startled to find a tag hanging on the door from Fed Ex, announcing that they had tried to deliver my PB!! Grrrr! I was home but obviously did not hear the guy at the door. GRRRR.... I was on my way to an appointment, but later when I got home, I decided to go over to the Fed Ex place and see if I could pick up my package, if it were not still on the truck. It was in the facility, not on the truck -- hooray!

Chundles, I did take pictures as I opened the box but haven't downloaded them yet into here. I had to go out this evening for a four-hour meeting so really haven't had a lot of time to play with this yet, have just basically started setting it up.

It is GORGEOUS!!! I was blown away by the backlit keyboard, as I hadn't seen that in the store, of course. That is a brilliant move on someone's part....it really does make a difference! So far, no sign of any dead pixels or any problems.

I am very, very pleased with my new baby.... :D :D

Re:7200 - No idea on if it is significantly faster, but I got it to make sure it felt as fast as possible right out of the box. And it was grant, not personal money paying.

With the suite of OSX+apps installed, the "100"GB drive is actually: 93.04GB capacity, w/ 79GB available, 14 used.

Good to hear that the 100 GB 7200 RPM drive is running quietly.
I'm trying to decide between a 5400 and 7200 RPM drive. Has anyone got any experience between the two? Is a 7200 noticably faster and is it worth forking out the extra cash, or could I do just as well with the standard 80 GB 5400 RPM drive and perhaps in a few years time upgrade myself to a much bigger drive?
The drive options from the Apple store seem a bit expensive to me compared to what drives cost elsewhere.

PS: can someone tell me how much disk space MacOSX together with all the pre-installed software takes up?

My 15" PB! It arrived! Woo hoo! :D :D :D

I love unpacking Apple products! I can't believe how thin it is! Incredible! I'm now using it, but I haven't yet touched it with my hands. I used tissues to open it up, and hooked up my keyboard & mouse. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it mint forever.

No dead pixels! The screen is massive! I'm gonna be on this thing for hours, installing my programs and configuring everything. Weeee!

My PowerMac has been shipped about 1 hour ago!! Wow exciting stuff!

Can't wait to get it now :)

Strangely, TNT UK say 'No consignments matched your search criteria.' when i paste in the tracking number the apple site gives me.

Any ideas as to why?

i got my powerbook yesterday. this thing is really a work of art. by far my favorite computer i've ever owned.

Does any of yours not close completely flush in both corners?

I'm FINALLY typing on my new pb and loving it! But still kinda bummed that the right front corner has a little gap when it's closed. I've read and have been told it's pretty common - and in fact it's rare to find one that doesn't have a gap. Which is why I'm asking.

Also, it seems a tad bit slower than I expected for my first laptop and the top of the line (of macs) at that. I'm wondering if it will be faster when I put the gig of ram in that should arrive monday. For now it just has the 528 or so mb it came with, but I had 100/7200 rpm BTO so I thought that would show some speed. Nothing too significanly slow, but backspacing takes a while, silly as that may sound, and when opening certain windows/pages (whatever they're called) sometimes things seem a little slow.

Feedback on any of this?

Thanks.

p.s. I love scrolling down using two fingers!

Let the waiting begin (F5, F5, etc)

Waiting. I am in Copenhagen. And it's currently the 3rd of Nov, around 6pm. So...any bids on when it will arrive? I think the 7th based on what I have read so far, but lord knows.

Another question I have is with regard to dead/stuck pixels. I am personally not so crazy about them, and even though this is a BTO I will do my best to send it back or return it if there are any defects in the LCD.

I think in Denmark Apple is bound by the law regarding purchases over the internet which give users 14 days to evaluate a product and then to return it if it doesn't meet expectations. I think in other countries Apple will slap you up with a re-stocking fee. Anyway, it occured to me that just to be on the safe side, perhaps one could open the box to check the screen without, you know, making it look as though you've opened the box. Anyone who has ever opened a PowerBook box can comment on possibility of this.

Well some kind soul on one of these threads suggested I change the keyboard speed (?) which I did and now this thing rips compared to before. With the new gb of ram, I just don't notice anything being slow at all. Very happy! :) The gap in front doesn't seem to be that big a deal now - but it would still be nice if it were nice and tight and flush like I've read some PB's are - rare as it is!

Goodcompany, I don't have a clue how long your PB should take to get to you in Copenhagen, sorry! I'm sure you'll get it soon and you'll love it. I hope you get no dead pixels. I didn't and it doesnt seem to be the norm, from what I've read.

My status went from "sent to manufacturing" to "preparing shipment". Any idea as to how long it takes from this point? It's been almost 2 weeks now. I only upgraded the graphics card on a Dual Core 2 to the 6600 (sans LE).

Mine was in "preparing for shipment" for two or three days, if I recall. I think for only 2 days.

I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad, I swear, but reading your posts makes me realize how glad I am that I ordered my PB only 2 days after they came out! I think I got mine about a week later. I'm surprised it's taking so long! Is it typical for the wait to be so long after a new one comes out?
