I lost just a little over 100 lbs in a little less than a year.

Three things to do.

1) Cardio.
2) Weight lifting.
3) Eat 6 to 7 times a day. (good food, low fat, log sugar)

Note, if you ever find that you are hungry feeling, then you need to eat something. And if you are eating the right amounts you will feel this every 2 to 3 hours.

Here is the deal, people who try and cut their intake always mess it up. You need to eat, or you body goes in to savings mode, and will try and save any excess, by storing it as fat. If you keep your metabolism up and your body out of storing mode you can burn alot more fat.

Also, any diet that restricts the time of day you can eat is rubbish. I was able to loose 2 to 3, and sometimes 4 lbs a week, while being able to eat right before I got to bed. This is because I did not want my body to go in to storage mode when I woke up. Eg, I did not want to have to break fast, by having breakfast in the morning. But Also, the first thing I did was eat, but my body never went in to fasting mode.

It is late right now, maybe one day soon I will write in more detail how I did it. Yes, I have picks to prove it, and will one day post.

Also, might note, I went from size 44 pants to 31, loosing weight is expensive, you will have to buy alot of new clothing.

If anyone has read any of Dean Karnazes books you would have probably heard about his "neanderthal diet" where you only eat foods that would have been available to a neanderthal person. So fruits, vegetables and lean meats, even trying to limit the amount of grains you consume. I tried this for two weeks and lost about 3kg (~7lbs). I didn't change anything but my diet and I didn't feel hungry.

Personally I found that too hard to stick to so I just decided to limit the amount of processed foods and refined sugars I eat and increase the amount of exercise I do. It seems to work for him, he eats 5000-6000 calories a day and has a body fat percentage for 3-4%. Though not many people can run a marathon a day for 50 days.

Nothing but respect for Dean Karnazes, but what I find funny is that most proponents of Neanderthal or Paleolithic diets are strongly against endurance sports and especially endurance running :3

I heard of it - it's just another form of calorie counting and exercise. Yes, you want your calorie intake to be nutrition packed (and this "diet" is), but in the end, it's a "Deprivation Diet" which means you can't eat what you want. These are HARD to stick to...

I've eaten what I want during my new eating lifestyle, and I've had no problem dropping the weight.

I'm down to 175 (from 189) since my last post... :)

I wouldn't eat that often, for me that is. You are supposed to eat when you are hungry. Eat when you're not and it's a bad habit, eat when you are starving and you tend to overeat.

Calories and exercise is sort of a rolling cumulative, so it doesn't matter when you eat or exercise. Freeing for me because I like to snack in front of the TV. ;)

Was a 44. Yes, it is expensive, buying all new pants, managed to find a very old pair of jeans (a 34 but shrunk) from 10 years ago! :eek:

About 6 weeks ago, I found out I have Type 2 Diabetes. Since then, have made a concerted effort to exercise and eat right. I've also been using LoseIt! App and a few others with restaurant info.

In that time, I've lost 24 pounds, feel better than I have in ages and my blood sugar is very close to normal. Still have a way to go but I might even be going off Metformin soon.

losing weight is the most amazing feeling.

my motivation!? girls. it helped not having a working computer for a month. and those results? very easy. just need mind control and motivation.

i eat a little fast food. never mcdonalds anymore. mainly taco bell because whenever i have fast food im with friends. i don't really eat much to be honest. it's a good money savor. i take GNC mega men vitamins, and those have really sped up the process. oh and the hard part, i walk/run 4 miles everyday. ive been getting more laxed lately, but i still eat at a very good level, and maybe 1 day a week ill cheat.

i cant describe how happy this has made me feel. girls look at me in public now a lot. my mood is always great, and im so confident now. i tried many times before and it was never possible for me to stick to it. i can honestly say a girl that i really loved but didn't love me back (she's only 16) was my motivation for all of this.

that's basically my post just above. :) except im 6'1"

my goal is 190, then ill focus on getting ripped.

I'm not trying to lose weight, but lose fat and add muscle. I started out last year (August '08) at 180 lbs and 5'11".

Now, I'm at 6'0.5" (5'12.5") and 195 lbs. I've lost alot of fat and gained muscle mostly through cycling and miscellaneous sports.

I still have a ways to go, and I've recently changed my diet to 1600 cal a day. Plus 3 - 4 rides per week ranging from 20 - 60 miles. In total I've been putting in ~120 miles a week and burning ~1000 - ~3000 cal each ride depending on the distance/cadence etc. Its fun and easy to do.

Me and you are exactly the same height/weight

I am looking for 190

Im a big dude in general. Ive got broad shoulders and big thighs from playing sports for 25 years of my life. I dont think 190 would be an ideal weight for my height or build. In fact, anything under 200 for our height is a little bit much IMO.

I went from 95 to 140 pounds over the past couple of years, and Leekohler went from around 140 to ~210 I believe (he's 6' 2" I'm 5' 8"). If you've got questions, we can help.

I went from 132 to 155 in a year or so :) (I'm 5'9"). It's hard work, especially when you're addicted to sports and get a ton of cardio every day. While Iscariot and Lee are your best bets on gaining weight, I'd be happy throw in my opinion if you want to gain some. I've always thought gaining weight was harder than losing it, that is, if you want to gain it the right way...

Just want to report back that although it has been a somewhat slow process, I've officially lost 80 pounds since May 2006. Some of the major changes I made were:

* Walking/cycling instead of driving
* Cutting out soda entirely (and forever), and mitigating sugary drinks
* Swimming/treadmill at the gym
* Portion control with meals
* Cutting back on meat (although I'm *not* becoming a vegetarian)
* Cutting out desserts, or eating fruit instead
* Healthy snacks

Now that I've hit my initial goal, I'm going for another 20-25 pounds over the next 18 months so that by December 2010 I'll have lost a solid 100 pounds.

Good luck to everyone else!

Edit:
my motivation!? girls.
Mine too! ;)

Thanks for bumping it, interesting.

I am on day 11 of p90x and have lost 6lbs so far, also my arms are noticibly bigger. I feel like I could lift a truck right now.

I'm 6'8" 327lbs. I was 290-95 for the longest time but I quit smoking a year ago and put on 40+ lbs quickly. I figured it would just go away when I stopped eating to releave the smoking cravings. nope!

I'm still smoke free a year later but got in the worst shape of my life. Hopefully the p90x will work, so far on day 11 I feel better than I have in a long time!

My girlfriend is doing it with me but shes a yoga master so this is pretty easy for her, its been cool doing it together. Looking forward to getting back into the kind of shape I need to be in to rock climb, rollerblade, hang-glide, ect ect

If you do something like P90X you gotta have a partner to do it with you or you will skip workouts or cheat on the diet.
