The Ohio State University today announced that it has worked with Apple to create a comprehensive, university-wide digital learning experience that includes an iOS design laboratory and opportunities for students to learn coding skills.

Called the Digital Flagship University, the initiative will include an effort to integrate learning technology into the entire university experience. Along with the aforementioned iOS design lab, which will be available to faculty, staff, students, and members of the broader community, the university will aim to help students "enhance their career-readiness in the app economy."

Apple CEO Tim Cook commented on the partnership, and said it will give students access to Apple's new coding curriculum.
Ohio State University's Digital Flagship University will launch in the 2017-2018 academic year, with the design lab set to open in a temporary space in 2018 before moving to a more permanent location in 2019.

Starting in 2018, first-year students at the Columbus and regional campuses will be given an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, as well as apps, all funded through the university's administrative efficiency program. Swift coding sessions will begin during the spring semester of 2018.

The iOS design lab will provide technological training and certification to students and community members who are interested in developing apps in Swift.

The Ohio State University also plans to integrate Apple technology into other areas of the university, introducing a chemistry course where students can complete assignments online with iTunes, debuting iPads for journalism and biology students, and more.

It is saddening that some colleges (like mine) would rather invest in non-educational programs, such as football, rather than having this awesome collaboration with Apple...

At this point I wouldn't recommended university for my kids tbh. We'll see if anything changes in the next 20 years.

That’s good as that will likely make them more determined to pursue higher education. :)

Hope that all lecture videos provide closed captions lest they get sued through the ADA (like Berkeley did).

I think he meant you should get rid of the word 'The'.
It's like saying The UCLA or The UCB is working with...blah blah blah....

In fact it's the exact opposite. https://www.osu.edu/ More to the point @tich was highlighting the running joke in the sports world that is OSU making such a big deal about "THE" in The Ohio State University. It's pretentiousness and all that.

As an Alumni of "The", I am sure they will happily take more of your $$ to enroll in another program.

I work in K-12 now (finance) and I think the opportunities that this present for K-12 are larger than post secondary. Apple provides completely free curriculum for this and it could open another gateway for job readiness skills that students badly need.

OK, message received, loud and clear. Hadn't heard of that inside joke about 'THE' Ohio State University, so that makes more sense now. (Maybe Juli was in on that joke, and subtly alluding to it.)

Generally speaking though, using a definite article to precede the name just seems superfluous nowadays in some instances and many people omit it, as in 'Ohio State University working with Apple' (even more so with acronyms as in 'Are you enrolling at OSU this fall'), hence my jumping to the wrong conclusion.

The Ohio University looks like what an Apple Store would look like if it were a library.

It would be great to see the Maize and Blue innovate in this space. I have not seen much come out of CITI in years. I would love Ann Arbor to have more than a football team and a deli as reasons to visit.

    :p

However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that the deli is worth visiting.

Sorry Apple but in my mind, until the iPad can be used to create iPad apps...it is still just a toy.

You do not have to give me the benefit of the doubt. Here is Inc. Magazine's take on it. :)
