No because the OP is talking about saving a number that previously didn't exist on the phone and he doesn't already know so he mentioned the keypad sucks because you cant simply have the phone out, talking to someone, be able to just type in the number and have it keep it on the screen so that after the call he can save it for future reference.

WE ARE NOT talking about simply calling up someone, talking, hanging up and having the number in the recent call list to save. You encounter a situation where you call someone up a family member a friend and they say hey let me give you a number and usually you scramble for a pen or some way of to save the number? The OP was referring to the fact that you cant do it when you can but its kind of ass backwards.

You CAN save a number that didn't exist on the phone. I think text messaging or notes can do the job, because I'm sure you can click the home button and multitask while you are talking.

Sounded like people got the idea that the OP was calling someone and not realizing that the number he just called appears on the recent call list so that's why I wanted to make sure we're all on the same page.

Texting could work as most people have a cell phone but notes sadly without copy and paste would not because if you want to add the number to your contacts list you would still need to grab a pen and paper to write the number down and re read it back to the contacts app. Another way is you'd need to switch back and forth between notes/contacts and memorize either the whole number or blocks of digits to transfer back and forth.

Seems like the easiest way is to add a call, use the keypad to enter the number, end the call and end the call with whom you're talking to and just have the number right there in your recent call list to add to your contacts.

Exactly the add a call and hang up to capture just the number quickly is the ...

Actually you can using some 3way calling trickery on the phone, when you "add a call" after being connected to the person you're on the phone with you can manually dial the number you want, hit call and IMMEDIATELY hit "end call". You can then go back to your conversation with the person that gave you the number and it will show up as #1 on your recent call list, turn it into a contact and you have the number the person gave you as a search able number/contact on your phone.

There is a way to do it but Apple for some retarded reason makes it like 10x harder then it needs to be.

ok. i know that now but not at the time of my original post.

Bit off topic but do you have to pay double when there you are in a 3 way call? or is it the same as a normal call.

Yep they do those bastards.. if you do a 3 way call with 2 others for 15 minutes then 30 minutes total comes out of your minutes. Of course if other charges apply like international rates etc they bill you those too on top of the minutes.
