Forgive me for lashing out that way, it won't happen again.
I'd like to add that I think a 3g version of the iPhone will be realeased in August. Followed by a 32gb upgrade in October and then the iPhone version 2 wth 3g, GPS, 64gb and a forum-scum-gun in Q1 2009. I honestly believe this.
I would be very surprised if it costs any more for 3G data than it does now for the EDGE data.![]()
Broadcom chip. Whenever it's shipping in large quantities.
Here's my guess. As most of us know, the FCC will spill the beans before it comes out. With the original iPhone, Apple took the opportunity to announce it itself rather than let the FCC do it in less than apple fasion. So, we can probably assume they will announce the 3G one themselves.
Second, we know that the washington post is reporting there will probably be a 3g phone by mid year.

Finally, we know that there may be a mac event planned for the end of this month.
https://www.macrumors.com/2008/02/07/apple-event-in-last-week-of-february/
So, as the article stats, what big announcement would they have to necessitate an entire event? Macbook Pro updates? iPhone SDK? Neither of these seem big enough on it's own (to me). But when combined together with another little surprise thrown in, I think it will happen.
So, here's my prediction. I say said event happens. They start off by talking about the new Pros. They then transition into The SDK and talk about it and a whole host of new third party programs (and more than likely a new rom with new features). Finally, I think we get that "one more thing" at the very end where Steve announces a 3G iPhone. When it will be scheduled for release is a little more difficult to nail down, but I'm gonna say July.
That's my story and I sticking to it!
sorry, but the "one more thing" only happens at macworld. Thanks for playing.![]()
Honestly though, I think because updates just occurred so recently, there won't even be a mention of the new 3g iphone until WWDC. I believe the event at the end of the month will be strictly dedicated to the SDK, possibly with a mention of the new MBP's.

how much more are the 3g data plans going to cost than the current plans?
The Data plans are going to cost at least $10 more, minimum..
AT&Ts current unlimited data plan + 200 text messages on their 3G network for a Blackberry is $35. Same with the Samsung BlackJack.
The real question should be, Will AT&T still offer an Edge-only plan for iPhone???
well if you iphone is on AT&T network it will cost more because all their other phones that have 3g, the data plans be at least 30.00 a month......so bye bye 20.00 ......hello 30.00![]()
I wonder if Apple was coy enough to put a provision in their exclusivity agreement to prevent a data pkg price increase when they inevitably moved to 3G. I also doubt you can compare the Blackberry plan to the iPhone plan, as any ATT iPhone plan is exclusive to the iPhone. I don't see an EDGE only plan either, I think ATT likes to keep the Apple "simplicity" mantra with their iPhone plans.
I have a 3G phone with AT&T and do not pay anymore than if I had an EDGE only phone. I pay $20 for an unlimited plan. The BB and the Blackjack plans do not cost more because they are 3G they cost more because they are different because they are business oriented and will usually use more data than regular phones.
The iPhone is the iPhone and we pay for what it is. 3G doesn't necessarily mean you will use more data it just means you will receive the data at a faster rate. I don't know if they will charge more or not but I doubt it will happen.
Just to let you know, the iPhone is pushing way more data than pretty much any other phone. Even buisness phones. Email is the main use for them and that isn't that much data. iPhone users have acces to full web-pages. I don't have one, but I'm guessing that those that due use it quite often for general browsing. My phone I pretty much use for checking sports and email becuase it isn't good for general browsing. So with the iPhone, the main thing is going to be downloading images from websites. This is the large majority of the data and it's something you won't really hit with other phones.
