I'm loving it so far, though I still haven't "got into" the main storyline as much yet, as I did with Oblivion.

I started off on Master difficulty, but had to drop down one; as every time I wandered around anyone/thing I'd randomly encounter would kill me in seconds. My "style" of combat is attack, run away healing myself, attack again... and that gets pretty tedious.

Luckily I concentrated on Archery more in Skyrim than in Oblivion, so the dragons so far have been easy. Hagravens have been far worse.

My 'pet hate' in Skyrim is I can't tell if people are enemies or friendly until it's too late. I don't know whether to sneak attack someone or approach & talk to them.

I'm just waiting to see too if Skyrim suffers from Oblivion's silly "A-bomb" bug, or the constant freezing in Fallout 3. The framerate is noticeably better than Oblivion, but we'll see how that goes over time.

Ya I'm not so sure about the "A-bomb" problem. I'm sure that'll take months for somebody to figure out. As for Fallout 3 framerate issues, I've only had the framerate drop noticeably 2 times. Both were after 7+ hour play sessions on my 360.

I can't remember for the life of me what skill tree it is under but there is a perk that allows you to see/spot enemies at a farther distance. I'll have to check when I get home...

I'm in. It's good. How do I zoom in and out of 1st person view? I want 3rd person and my mouse scroll wheel has no effect and I don't see a control binding for it. This page says use F. That is not working for me. Ideas? Thanks :)

edit: got it lol. can't zoom while hands are initially bound... once you are free zoom works. Is there a way to rotate the view to look behind you? Thanks! :)

Yeah, default is the F key to switch between first and third. Mouse wheel will only work in third-person to zoom in and out.

You might need to hold the F key down, rather than tap it. Sometimes, at the enchanting table, scrolling will zoom out my view into third-person and switching back to first person seems kind of wonky. Almost like it only works sometimes or that there's some sort of delay.

Just "fought off" Alduin. Was a pretty hard fight! I'm about level 15 and have about 13 hours of play in (spent some time on side quests.)

However, Lydia (the White Run servant girl) died/got lost after all this time and she happened to be carrying a lot of valuable stuff.. any one else have this happen and know how to get her back? I've hard her through the entire game and can't believe she finally flew the coop.

Patch out for PS3. Coming to PC and Xbox by wednesday.

I'm level 12 right now (playing on 360) and feel I've probably botched my build. I am playing as a Thief with my skills in Sneak, 1H, Archery, Light Armor, Alchemy. I absolutely am terrified of dragons, I stand zero chance against them. I've put most of my early perks into Sneak (muffled movement, backstab) and 1H but I should have put more into archery early on. Basically, I was clueless for the first 5-6 levels about what to do. Ah well.

PS3 player here.

Same here. I built an assasin. I am level 26 and don't take on dragons solo. I just keep shooting when I get a chance as I am dragging them towards some giants or a city. Have the NPCs lend a hand in taking him down.

Thanks! It seems like when you are armed, you can't rotate the view behind you, but you can when ur weapon is put away. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to quickly switch from a weapon to magic without stopping the action. I used to use a Nostromo N52 which worked great. I may have to break that back out if they have drivers for it and Win7. :)

In regard to the skill points, anyone else stockpiled theirs? I'm level 15 and have literally only used two skill points, so I have 12 or 13 remaining. I just feel like I'm wasting them! I'm a Redguard and I love playing with a strong 1h sword and a destruction spell (normally Flames), but don't really know what to do in terms of the skill points.

I've also basically evened out my MP/HP/Stam at 150.

I have just started to save. The main stuff I want I have perks in and the rest I have to wait till my skill level is higher to get the last of the stuff.

Love it! Running on my iMac (specs below) w/bootcamp and windows 7 ultimate. I'm a high elf. On level 12 maybe. Got it 5 minutes before the game stop closed the day it came out. Not a whole lot of time playing but it is amazing. I love using the bows for some sneak action.

I'm looking for the perfect graphic settings so I don't loose any graphics while not loosing frame rate. any suggestions?

Same. I hardly ever even get seen. I snipe then wait a moment for htem to give up then do it again.

LOL!! That's my technique. :D Which probably explains why my sneak is 92 and my second highest archery is only 66. :) I put most of my skill points into archery though.

Lots of sneaking to the point I've jumped a few times, because I was so focused on something ahead then caught something else in the corner of me eye -- or a loud noise at the wrong moment.

@ SidewaysTakumi,

Sorry, have been away and Huntn already answered it, but just to reiterate, it doesn't matter to me or others, it's playing the game that matters. :)

Same. Was sneaking through a field to go attack some bandits when a skeever jumps out from nowhere right in front of me.

I have been saving all my books in the end table in my house to read later when I have more time. But this will help out a ton on some reading because I can do it when not playing.

I had a strategy guide for Elder Scrolls 3 and it was well worth it. This game just might be a candidate for one. You can either take the time to figure it out with several character builds or develop your character with knowledge and end up with an end product you are happy with the first go around. For ES3, I found that the information on magic spells was invaluable. I just pretended I had an in-game mentor. ;) Also I hate missing quests especially the complicated, multiple leg quests. A strategy guide if it is a good one can keep you on the path.

For fun as a test of the new game's A.I., aggro something that will bite you, run fast up the backside of a big rock and then stand at the front where it is steep and the mob can't climb. If you are there soon enough, it will run in a straight line to your position. Pummel it with arrows and see if it has the smarts to run around the back side of the rock to climb up and get you. Even if it does, you might be able to run up another rock and turn it into a pin cushion while it figures out how to reach you. :D

I noticed on YouTube some people have a quick draw with the bow. Do you have that and if so how?

And I hate giants!!!

It is one of the Archery perks you can purchase. I know you have to be a semi-high level to unlock it, like 60-70.

At what settings/framerate will an iMac 27" run this game?
3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
2560 x 1440 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB

(I will probably upgrade to 12GB RAM)

I found this YouTube Vid;

And from his comments;
Game Settings:
- 1920x1080.
- Everything else maxed out, except for AA (2x).
- Added foliage shadows through a config file.

There's a mod that allows 64-bit memory addressing in Skyrim, but if you're already at 4Gigs, the extra memory won't make any discernable difference; but since ram is so freaking cheap, you should do it anyhoo. :)

AWESOME cerote! Thanks for that link to the Kindle book! :D

Speaking of books, I had collected a ton early on in the game before I got a house.

I left them along with the bones and scale from 3 dragons I had been near when they were killed -- I did my part I guess -- in a barrel at that archer trainer guy's place. Anyways, when I returned after getting a house, everything was gone! :( Well, not the stuff I had thrown on the ground that were duplicates. Maybe I should have just left it all on the ground. O.O

In ES3, the houses and furnishing them was just something to do with your money. They served no practical purpose at all, just made you feel good. You could leave spare items on the ground and they would remain there basically forever. This needs testing in ES5.

Now a horse, with a saddle bag mod, that was very practical. I wonder if one exists in ES5?

In ES5 it seems like you must equip either a weapon or a spell in both your left and right hands. It's a long time since I've played ElderScrolls 3. I'm looking for advice on the way to seemlessly switch from hand held weapons to magic during combat. I used to play it with a Nostromo N52, but there don't appear to be drivers for it to run on Win7. As I recall in ES3 a wheel you could pull up with a variety of spells that made it very easy to switch and there was a different button you used to shoot spells vs swing your sword.
Thanks!

In the 'hints' that pop up on the loading screens, they mention you can leave things in cupboards/end tables etc, but they're not guaranteed to be there when you return. I guess that makes realistic sense, if you go around stealing from everywhere, NPCs can too! ;)

On Fallout 3 - the general framerate was fine. The problem was sporadic freezes, often in VATS. Sometimes lasting 5 seconds, sometimes 2 minutes, often requiring a reset. The issue got worse and worse as you progressed further into the game. That's what worries me. Both Oblivion and Fallout 3 shared much the same engine and both had issues which made them unplayable after a (long) period of time. Does Skyrim use the same engine?

I haven't been able to find the 'perception' perk. I'm sure there was something like that in Oblivion, or was it Fallout 3, but can't find it in the skill tree. Pity.. as a lot of my battles are now guesswork!

Hmm...guess I was wrong. :/ I coulda sworn I'd seen that perk somewhere in this game. It's something I desperately need. I just killed a couple people (thought they were bad) then I got the "So and so quest failed".

I'm really enjoying it so far. There are, however, a few things that are really sucking out some of the fun.

1) Constant and CONSISTENT crashing to desktop. I'm not the only one with this problem. It's been somewhat alleviated by using a special loader from SkyrimNexus that bypasses the 4GB limit. It still happens, just not as frequently.

2) In (apparently) true Bethesda fashion, it's a ****** console port. The inventory system is terrible, and the keybinds are even worse. I spent 11 levels trying to figure out how to use an ability before finally figuring it out - I raged on Skype and another friend clued me in. Even then, he had only figured it out on accident, and somewhere near level 20.

Besides the above, I'm actually enjoying it. Never thought I'd like Skyrim, seeing how much I hated Oblivion.

Can anyone answer this? Is this a result of it being a console port? In ES3, as I remember you could hold your weapon and shoot magic at the same time. In ES5 it seems like you must equip a weapon or magic to each hand and to switch out, you must stop the action, go to a different screen to make a selection... Maybe the answer is staring me in the face, but I don't yet see it. :(
