Well I figured it out and got my crazy set up together, here is a picture of it, sorry I don't have a better picture of it but as you can see my main camera was a little tied up. Just a test, so the pictures are not perfect, I will try again in the next few days.

You can do a lot with macro photography on the cheap. The hardest part is getting a good working distance. Especially with live subjects.

I figured out why my SB-600 wouldn't fire when nothing was mounted on my camera...because CLS group B was still set to TTL in the camera's settings (I've never used set B, I only have one flash which is in set A), and that was preventing the shutter from releasing. I switched set B off, and everything worked. So here's my first shot handholding just the 50mm reversed in front of the body...what a pain! Definitely going to buy the adapter ring.

yea on that set up I was using I had only a few mm to work with, as you can see in the pictures I couldn't even get a pin head all in focus.

Please post advice, tips/tricks and photos taken with reversed lenses, extention tubes/rings, diopters, magnifying glasses, microscopes or any other nifty method!

Macro lenses can very inexpensive. If you have Nikon eqipment look for an older manual focus macro lens. I have one 1960's vintage lens that I got for about $80. It is as good and sharp as any made today. But I have to rotate a ring to control focus.

So before you spend money on a diapter or something look for a good used macro lens. But it depends on the brand of camera. Canon's can't use older MF lelnses but Nikon and Pentax can

Wow...

I'm the type to be extremely reluctant to use adapters, teleconverters, heck even third party lenses (apart from maybe German glass, but with the proper mount).

Now this is really freakin' me out... 😱

I vote for inexpensive, older used lenses...

ah its not to bad 😛, only thing at risk of getting damaged here is the 50mm, and thats only if the shoe laces snapped somehow.

Cenetti you have a fantastic eye for colour and composition.
If it's really true that you have only been taking photographs for a few months (as I think I read on another thread) then you have a real talent, these shots are excellent.

Could you link to the filters you used?

I use it on 50mm 1.8 (which is 52mm - not 55 as it says in the link)

When I was at the store, that's the only size they had so that's what I got. But I'd suggest you to get one for your zoom lens. With 50mm you really get to kiss the bugs lol...

Hey cenetti what post processing program do you use? Do you edit the raw with another program before putting it into photoshop or just put the raw straight into photoshop.
