Early adopters of the PowerMac G5 2.0GHz machines may have to wait a little longer... according to ThinkSecret.

The inital supply of Dual 2.0GHz G5s is rumored to fulfill education orders first.

Reports of PowerMac 1.6GHz machines reflect a similar trend with early availability found at Stanford and USC. Previous rumors, however, claimed that certain corporate customers may have received their PowerMac G5 2.0GHz machines early.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

*ahem!*

I'm in education, and they allowed me to order a dualie!

Don't worry; it's only one (accompanied by eMacs. )

Hmmm, I wonder if waiting till the Dual's get to the Apple Stores might not have been a better bet. I'm sure a few will be rolling in when things get going and you might have a better chance of getting one sooner that way.

D

Waiting...

I hope that it's worth waiting...
Maybe it's better for Apple to present their computers to their costumers when they're ready to ship.
(and finally... a rumor without the words "PowerBook" or "15 inch") :)

TriangleJuice.

well its a good move if they are selling machines to students first. at least the students won't have to opt into something else because of a school deadline.

Good old Apple

C'mon, Apple.

The most anticipated product launch in your history.

Invite people to switch?

Shouldn't you have something to which they can switch?

Clearly, "the world's fastest personal computer" doesn't refer to product delivery times!

Boo-yah! Ordered day of Keynote, Educational Institution order (for work). Blaow! On Or Before Sep. 2. Still. I ROCK! =D hehehe.

I don't believe it...Yet......

It seems it would be very bad business for Apple to accept orders, give an estimated ship date of over 2 months away, then 3 days prior to the estimated ship date, change it all so that the individual buyer ends up waiting alot longer.

I will reserve judgement until 8/29

Just checked my dually and it's still 8/29 .... So we'll see.

Regards,

I AGREE!!!
I ordered mine the first day you could order June 23 and I d a m well better be in the first shipment.
If they bump us for school kids or for any other reasons it would most certainly send a message to Never pre order anything from apple ever again.
Thi business of apple announcing products months before availability with bogus ship dates has got to stop.

Um... apple's not known for their promptness of delivering new products to market. Don't get to excited until it tells you its shipped!

Kinda like what I'm doing now, especially in light of the fact that it says "early adopters" and I was stupid enough to not be in that boat.

Still have est. ship of 8/29

I ordered mine 6/26 and still have an estimated ship date of this Friday. If it's not going to ship then, I hope Apple has the decency to update the estimated ship date. I've been rabidly avoiding any additional commitments for this weekend so I could get everything set up and ported over from my iMac.

(monitor - check, software - check, spiffy new matching office furniture - check, G5 - G5??)

i am currently typing this from a 1.6 g5 in the easton town center apple store in columbus, ohio. they just got it in today. i am also happy to say that right now i am glad i ordered my dual as an education order, so hopefully it's on schedule (it still says on or before 8/29).... fingers crossed....

well, I guess someone has to get theirs first - I'm not suprised edu customers would win out, seeing as they are at a time-sensitive point at the moment with classes starting and all.

I'm sure if Apple had all the parts they'd ship the computers. It's not ok to blame someone else, but I'm sure it's a manufacturing/logistics problem at IBM.

If it's the case latch problem, that would seem silly. they've had plenty of time to make any adjustments.

Certainly don't want them to ship any bad apples.

:p

I was sure I was going to order a PowerMac for my bday on sept 16, but now I'm thinking of 15" PowerBook.

I Got Mine (1.8)

Yes really--I got my 1.8 yesterday. I'm an Education customer.

My university has received a ship date from Apple of September 12th for the Dual 2GHz machines.

yahoo!

Frankly, I think Apple needs to get it's $&*! together. I don't drop $3500 on a computer every day of the week, and when I do - I don't expect to be told I will get it sometime in October. They should of have been ready to meet initial demand in a more timely manner than they are.

For gods' sake - they don't even have them on display in stores. Are they trying to hide something? The whole thing is beginning to seem a little shady to me. How convenient that noone can review the machines, use the machines or see the machines before they buy them.

Grrr....I love their products, but the overhype, underproduce cycle has got to stop.

Joe

Hmm...

Hmm, I bought mine with the Educational discount for developers. Educational ADC membership. Wonder how that fits in...

Apple still says 9/2... We'll see...

Anyone who got there 1.6/1.8, did anything come in the package about the Panther (next OS X)? Coupon, rebate, a letter laughing at us for ordering so early, anything????

Why doesn't intel announce their new P4s that will ship next year, and say their faster than apples G5s? Apple did the same thing to intel, announcing a product 2 months in advance

professionally I think this is sound business. Fulfill your customers that are going to be repeat business prior to the folks that order one every other year or longer.

Personally i'm bummed :)
