Not especially - it seems to run about the same temperatures as my old 9800XT. It's running at the standard 492/475MHz core/memory clock speeds. My card was brand new though, so the fan had never been used - perhaps the fan on your card is worn out and/or the thermal paste needs redoing?

The fan works, it runs at full blast until the OS loads and then it slows down, as it should.
I have a Radeon 9800 Pro that runs really, really hot, but it has an heatsink about half the size as the X800's. I will get a thermal probe and measure the temperature on the heatsink of both this Monday.
I can't remember it running that hot in my PC however, it felt just warm. Maybe the fan was running at higher speeds.

i wanna pimp my PPC!

Love the old workhorse but its time to make things better under the hood...

My first "mod" added drive

I had an extra ATA drive and an ATA to SATA adapter kit. I know you guys pain thru the delicate like proper places to drill and air flow, but I went with this:

can you spot the extra drive ?? LOL!

I've been working on this lately (in another thread)

Its and older intel motherboard with a C2D in a g4 QS case. The QS has long been dead, which is unfortunate.
It has an 8800GS, 3GB of RAM, and a 2.0GHz CPU. Soon, I'll put a 2.8 GHz C2D, another 2GB in (two slots :() to make it 4GB total, and potentially a better graphics card. The PSU I put in is about 500W so I can easily put a large card in. I also plan to install another fan soon for better air flow. Most of the metal case internals have been removed because they would be in the way and they are unnecessary. Friday I might modify the CD drive holder to make room for the RAM and stuff to have an official HDD mount instead of zip ties.

Nice mod! Was it particularly difficult? What OS do you run on that thing? Please don't say Windows!

Not windows, I wouldn't dream of it. Its a Mavericks setup that I actually need to repair soon. My bud printed me an I/O shield out of black acrylic, and iModfrenzy claims he has a 2GB stick of DDR2. The whole thing wasn't too difficult, the hardest part being cutting the old I/O shield out.
