I've had my iPhone 13 Pro for about a week now and have to say: I don't feel any difference between the new ProMotion display and the display of my old iPhone XS.

I was expecting scrolling to be buttery smooth, but it's more or less as smooth as before the up-to-120-Hertz variable refresh rate. It was acceptably smooth before on my XS and is not noticeably smoother now on my 13 Pro.

A bunch of people here on the forums claimed that the jump from 60 to 120 Hertz would be one of those things that sound insignificant until you experience it yourself for the first time, and once you have it, you don't ever wanna go back. I have to say, my experience is not that at all. There was no big wow-effect when I first experienced the new display and it doesn't feel any different when I go back to using the XS now.

I was wondering how other customers feel about the feature. Maybe my ProMotion is just broken 😂
I see a stark difference between my old iPad or my iPhone and my iPad Pro, maybe it’s just less noticeable on the new iPhone 13 pro’s but I can easily see the difference

I think the 120Hz discussion got blown up by tech YouTubers and outlets solely because it was something they could say Apple didn’t have yet. Nice on paper but by no means a game changer. Even with video games I find 60Hz to be great.
For gaming, it is a "trained eye" but not regarding refresh rate. Of course, there’s a minimal quality, probably ~60Hz though perhaps upwards of ~90Hz is where most people will notice something. Instead, the player performance gain is primarily about learning maps (e.g., weapon locations), weapon spawn times, other player behaviors, etc. Additionally, consistency is extremely important. For example, you’re better off if the hardware can provide a constant 88 to 92 FPS than if it’s roller coasting throughout 120 to 240 FPS.

But hey, marketers know what they’re doing. Bigger number is always better. 😉

It not life-changing, but coming from a XS Max, it's certainly noticeable. I wonder once developers start using updating their apps to take advantage if the whole experience is much better.

I don’t have a 13 pro but I used the S21 with 120hz, it’s nice but it’s definitely more noticeable on iPads with the bigger screen.

comparing an iPad Pro to regular iPad the difference is larger.

When I’m trying to demonstrate the benefits of ProMotion to others who don’t already see it, the easiest way for me to highlight the difference between ProMotion when it’s on vs. when it’s off is to toggle Low Power Mode.

Low Power Mode will disable ProMotion and put the display into the traditional 60Hz of previous gen iPhone Pro models. When turning it on/off like that you can see the differences more clearly.

I personally can’t see a difference from my wife’s 13Pro and my 12Pro, but admittedly I don’t have great eyes. But it is funny how some are saying, “turn this off” or “try this” or “film it in slow mo” and you’ll see the difference. Ummmmm…..any feature that you have to do that to confirm you actually have the feature is not a real feature for all.

It’s interesting how some people don’t really notice it. I can’t deny your experience but to me it is extremely noticeable and fully lives up to my expectations. I had been waiting for it for years.

I notice it for sure but is it more important then higher resolution?

no way, I’d rather have a solid 60hz display at 4K then 1080 P at 120hz.

I have really, really good vision, and even I can’t discern the iPhone’s individual pixels unless I put the screen so close to my face that I can barely maintain focus. Idk if you’re talking about the iPhone’s display or some other type of display but additional resolution on iPhone would just be a waste of battery life.

With my iPad Pro I’m satisfied with the resolution but would find an upgrade to be noticeable. Same with my Mac.

A trip to the eye doctor may be in order for you. It is a huge difference

I notice it but it's as I always thought not as noticeable/needed on a small screen v going from a iPad Pro to a cheaper iPad. Wouldn't be without it on a iPad, my 13 max it comes with it so good, but I wouldn't upgrade just for it.

When I first started opening apps and swiping home pages on my new 13 pro it sort of made me dizzy. The new refresh rate was not what my brain was expecting. Now it is no longer making me dizzy, but it looks good. It may be awesome but it is currently melded into normal. I guess I need to swipe around on my normal iPad and see how it feels.

The thing most people forget is that the Iphone at 60hz is already very smooth for 60hz. Some cannot tell the difference because they are not use to it. I can tell when it's 60hz or 120hz. Before I got the 13 PM, I didn't like going from my 12.9 Ipad pro to my 12 PM. I could tell how laggy it felt at first, after a while I got use to it being at 60hz and I know it's only 60hz.

Now that I have the 13 PM, I can switch between this and the Ipad pro and have no issues at all. It also helps that I'm a pc gamer as well with a high end PC[5900X and 3080ti] and a 50" 4K 120hz vvr tv as a monitor.

I definitely notice the difference, but I never thought it was a necessary feature and I still don't.

Just finally checked it out at the store today and it’s quite overwhelming. Looking at my phone feels laggy now. Can’t wait to upgrade!

After 2 years with the iPhone 11 LCD screen, I am blown away with the 13 Pro OLED screen with this ProMotion thing. I see/feel it every time I touch the screen, it’s a huge difference to me. I’ve been using iPad Pros with ProMotion for a few years now and thought the higher refresh rate on the phone wouldn’t be a big deal, but it’s the standout feature for me. It’s much more noticeable to me on the phone than the iPad for some reason.

I couldn’t disagree more quite honestly.

a 10 months ago I got a PS5 and until then had played on graphics mode rather than performance mode. So playing 30fps then I tried the 60fps and it was slightly better.

However after a couple of weeks of playing I now struggle to play 30fps games because of the difference.

I upgraded from the XR and the very first thing I noticed was the screen it blew me away, so crisp, short, the blacks are really black and colours pop. Then the scrolling is like warm butter. The faster you swipe the faster it goes but there’s a great medium pace that allows you to skim the headlines and read them perfectly crystal clear while they scroll.

Truly a game changer for me.

I love how fluid and smooth the 13 Pro Max is with the ProMotion feature. It is pretty easy to see the difference. Bring up mail and start slow scrolling the mail list. Settings->Accessibility->Motion->Limit Frame Rate. Now do the same thing again in mail. The text on the 60Hz will have a slight stutter to the text as you are scrolling. Kind of makes the text look a little bit fuzzy. Then turn ProMotion back on and do the test again. It is easy to see the difference. Now grated that iOS is pretty fast at graphic transitions, it will be subtle at most. But I have gotten used to it and now I would not go back to 60Hz. Besides, the LTPO and ProMotion help with battery life. It is hard to argue about the benefits that this gives us in terms of battery life. I am consistently going 2 full days between battery charging. Why would I want to give that up.

Just go to Accessibility>Motion>Limit Frame Rate and toggle <on>.
This will give you 60hz max.
Then come here and scroll and try to read even with about 1 second swipe from top to bottom.

Then toggle off the max rate to see the 120hz difference.
It’s substantial and I can read while scrolling. At 60hz it’s a real pain to try and read while scrolling.

I totally appreciate that people don't notice this, and certainly appreciate how that reflects on their perceived value of that device, but aside from that, I do have a hard time relating to it - I notice it like crazy, it's mad apparent to me. It's like painfully obvious from my perspective. Sometimes I even just scroll to see it because of how smooth it is.
