512MB RAM - Apple A4 1GHz Processor Chip

Pretty sure there's 512MB in there. Also, the Apple A4 is clocked at 1GHz: "These sorts of design efficiencies are enabling the development of smartphone processors whose speed and power are increasing by leaps and bounds every year. Consider that last year’s iPhone 3GS ran on an ARM Cortex A8 that clocked in at 600MHz; one year later, the Apple A4 processor is running at an even speedier 1GHz. I know it's a smart phone but in this day and age 256mb is really barely adequate when taking into account what wil be coming down the pike in the next 18 months or so. I really don't know how the next chip will effect the phone's ability to load APPs but I am sure there is a marked improvement. Planned obsolesence aside, what is the reason for not making it 512k???

Because nothing would run if it had 512k of RAM. I don't even think the phone would be able to start up.

Although like many here I wish it would 512MB RAM, it is more than likely Apple would have left it at 256MB. Now, it would have been nice if Apple added a 256MB module in there paired with a 32MB or 64MB module to make it not 512MB but 288MB or 320MB. That way users would have a bit more breathing room.

Alas, I have some good news. On my Jailbroken iOS 4.0.1 iPhone 4. I can see 324mb free memory every time I respring and 334mb free memory every time I power reset. Proof on the screen shots (attached) I took right after I resprung and rebooted. Now the "it only has 256mb" is out of the question.

When was it ever in question? Way to revive a dead thread.

So is bad that I'm trying to raise my post count by responding to this thread? I always have to wonder about these members who revive dead threads with nothing new to add. On my other forums, usually it's spammers trying to link their sites in the post.

512 MB of RAM discovered after dissection of the iPhone 4 and the A4 PoP chip.

"While we're not too busy, let's talk RAM. Unlike the iPhone 3GS and iPad, which are both equipped with 256 MB, the iPhone 4 has a whopping 512 MB!"

By this time, I already know it has 512MB, why would you want to resurrect a dead thread?

Because when you search "How much RAM does the iPhone 4 have" on Google, this thread is the first result. Glad to know it has 512mb though. Thanks for giving me and everyone else searching the internet the correct answer.

That was my one and only post, besides these last two, simply to let other people searching the internet know that it didn't have only 256. It's not like I actually went through the mac rumors archive and found this thread just so I could register and account and make one post. I couldn't find the answer on google. Sorry I'll leave this website alone from now on so you guys can deal in your post counts.
