For people with acromegaly I really suggest going with the 15" rMBP.

What's acromegaly? And I don't really want a retina MBP even if I could afford one!

I have ultimately decided to go with the 13. I will be using the system far too often to sacrifice usability and comfort for a sexy form factor.

The 11" definitely has that IMO ;) But that doesn't mean I'm taking it to bed tonight. I don't want to be the one who has to deal with iPad Minis :p;):D:eek::apple:

Highlight the word on a Mac, then right click, and click "Lookup in Dictionary", and you'll get the following result:

"abnormal growth of the hands, feet, and face, caused by overproduction of growth hormone by the pituitary gland."

I use the "lookup in dictionary" feature quite a lot as it has proven to be very handy over the years. :)

Unsharp edge with rubber gasket?

Surely, some vendor somewhere sells a rubber gasket to blunt the sharp edge?

That's the only thing I don't like about the MBA, I wish they made a 11" MBP.

Which is why I created this thread. I was hoping someone smarter than myself had solved the problem.

Hello all,
I am a computer science student about to graduate, and at present, I commute between school and two jobs. After some serious evaluation, I have come to the conclusion that a MBA would be a sound financial investment.

Congrats on graduating.
13" is the right choice.
Take an economics course. It's an expense, not an investment.

So how are we gonna justify the $$$? :(

It gonna help school, school is gonna pay big time in the future! :D

Found these on Amazon, and several of the comments are from MBA users who found the sharp edge uncomfortable

Man those are hideous. Am thinking more along the line of a thin strap around the edge, like for iPhones, or again, a thin half-tubing that I can glue it on the edge, removable of course.

The 13" Pro has the sharp corners. You shouldn't be resting your hands on the keyboard anyway. It's bad for your wrists!

Buy a 23" monitor to connect while you are at home, and get the 11"

I feel this thread should have been posted back in the 90's before people heard about words such as ergonomics and RSIs.

I never knew about that feature (the lookup in dictionary)

I think you can use a three finger tap to click and it will look up a word automatically.

In standard typing position, you should have enough area to rest your palms on the 11". it starts to become a problem when you are using the track pad though.

Are you suggesting you can rest your palms on the case while using the trackpad? You come at the trackpad from the side?

Typing classes back in the 60's told you to not rest your wrists on the table etc.

From 15" to 13" to 11" plus Apple Cinema Display...

I used a MBP 15" to work all the time (technical translation, several windows open plus the usual...), then I needed a smaller Mac (travel) and went for the 13". I adapted quickly to the smaller screen using OS X features to open several Spaces. After some time I borrowed a 11" and it was so smaller and, surprisingly for me, so pleasurable to use (totally emotional thing, I guess...) with all windows on each Space that I bought one (i7, 11", 256 SSD, 8 GB).

After a few weeks I assembled it as an iMac: added a 27"ACD, Magic Trackpad and Wireless Keyboard. Best of both worlds for me (great desktop, perfect portable)...

:)

This is correct.

It's not a palm rest.

"You're doing it wrong."

I will readily admit that I am not the most efficient typist. To be fair, I never said that I was typing properly, only that when I type it is uncomfortable.

I will have to make a conscious effect to improve my typing in the immediate future, though.

With all that being said, the palm area, no matter what you call it, will be used inevitably. Sticker price is too high to comprise comfort.

Fyi, I ended up buying a refurbished 2012 11.6" MBA through the apple site and typing on it while sitting at a desk versus standing up hunched over the table at Best Buy or the apple store is completely different. I think it's a question of ergonomics. When I was typing on the 11" MBA at the store, my hand hit the edge of the palm rest and it was very uncomfortable. I didn't even like the keyboard and found it hard to type on without errors. Now that I have a MBA, from the first key, it has been fine. In fact, I love it (surprisingly). The edge (at least on this one) is not sharp and my hands are fine on or over the palm rest. Also, re: the screen size, it's very different out of the store. I think it's fine (for me), but in the store, it looked so small compared to the 13's, the 15's, the iMacs.

Those on the fence about the 11" MBA might want to actually test it in the environment where you'll be using it. I'm not 100% sure I'll be keeping it, but I have to say I was surprised how much I like the keyboard and typing experience (although I'd like it if the screen reclined back another few degrees...).
