Well, only if none of the far superior features in the 17 are missed. Which I find hard to believe for most people. Maybe the elderly.

I literally just talked to someone in his 20s upgrading from a 12 that's running on fumes. He wanted to do the 16e but uses the ultra-wide, so he picked the 16. He said he had no interest in the 17 and didn't care about the extra features.

I also just talked to a family member (a few weeks ago) in her 70's who just upgraded from a 16 Pro and said she wanted the 17 Pro b/c she liked the extra zoom and just always likes having the latest/greatest. 🤷‍♂️

Are they outliers? Maybe. But anecdotes are anecdotes. Phones are a very personal thing - some people treat them only as tools that they just need to work in their basic form, others treat them as an extension of themselves as a person. Age might play a factor on where a person falls on that spectrum, but it's not a given by any means.

Regular use for me is holding it in my right hand with my pinky giving some support, so it would block the right speaker placement. I guess if you are left-handed or just prefer using your non-dominant hand then the base 17 is better placement.
Maybe I'm weird, but I hold the phone from the sides, with no part of my hand under the phone. Neither speaker is blocked. I have a 17 Pro, and the sound comes out from the left, a fact I wouldn't have known had I not read this thread and checked.

💯
I hold my 17 Pro Max the same way and have done so with most of my smartphones.
So I find it strange that the speaker placement on the left is an issue.

It’s not the gorgeous 120Hz display, it’s not the sweet color options, it’s not even the INCREDIBLE value proposition…

IT’S THE BOTTOM SPEAKER STILL BEING ON THE RIGHT SIDE.🙌🏼
Did you try charging your phone with USB-C and try listening if there is a static jitter sound? All of the units have them. Not so sure if this is the best iPhone.

Do you have OCD? Because this seems like such a non-issue in reality... I didn't even know this was a thing until you just said it.

Yet it was one of the first things I noticed on mine. When using it in portrait my pinky rests on the bottom, partially blocking the speaker (as I tend to use my phone in my left hand). And then it's even more apparent when watching videos in landscape.

It’s not a dealbreaker by any means. I’m just curious what Apple’s motive was for moving it.

People use their phones to record videos and if you have it attached to a charging cable you will record this noise along with it.

Ahhhhhh I can see how that would be quite an issue for some! I personally record audio using wired EarPods or a wireless mic so I haven’t noticed any audio issues myself.

hey there,
since you have a 17, do you think i should get a 16 pro or 17? What would your say be on this
Does 17 feel premium enough?

The 17 feels (and looks) WAY more solid and premium than the $799 price would suggest. And the battery life is quite a bit better compared to the 16 Pro so my vote would be for the 17. But you really can’t go wrong with either, and I miss the titanium days already.😭😭😭

The only factors that would cause me to recommend the 16 Pro over the 17 are:
  • Extra telephoto is extremely important to you
  • Price for the 16 Pro is the same or cheaper than the 17
  • 16 Pro is new or practically new with regard to battery health

i am convinced on 17 tbh, double storage for the price compared to 16 pro in my country, also the new selfie camera seems sucha upgrade, would miss the 3 camera titanium design tho. Fast charging is a bonus I do not wanna ignore fs

the 16 pro I am getting is slightly expensive in my country, new tho, main concern for me was 17 doesn't look pricey like 16 pro, but should be fine
