Steve Jobs described the
TV as the DVD player for the internet age. They need more content, as others have mentioned here. I used to have Cox On Demand when I had a cable box, and enjoyed the free independent films from Sundance and other sources that were on that service.
Browsing the iTunes movie store from my couch to find a movie, watching the trailer from my couch, and clicking "rent HD" is sooooo much better than carting myself to a video store or even picking a movie on Netflix and waiting for it to be delivered. The fact that it also stores and presents all of my iTunes music and digital photos is a great bonus. As another bonus, I'm watching lots of interesting video podcasts, and less cableTV. Movie rentals is the main strength, and everything else is a bonus.

Apple makes even less money becasue the
TV has so far been a financial flop due to its lack of functionality. True story, not speculation or opinion.Apple doesn't make any money when I rip my DVD collection and import into iTunes.
Okay, I have an ATV and I bought it for the sole purpose of being able to buy movies or TV shows that I really wanted to watch at college. This allows me to do this easily and not having to walk to a video store which is really far away and it is cold here most of the time.
Second thing, I love the movie aspects and it's that it has audio too. I listen music too cause I just grab the remote and turn the TV on. Pull my phone out and start playing music or a movie. It's great.
The only poor thing that I dislike about ATV is that it doesn't allow me to watch football games. We have basic TV here at college but not enough football or the games we want to watch cause we all aren't from the area. That's the only downside. I'd wish they'd make a deal to incorporate that aspect and I think they could make money off of it. They can use it to stream it through the internet and still make money off the advertisement.

Yeah, and do you notice how the display of that content is almost an afterthought by them? Last on the menu, GUI isn't the same as their rental or buy stuff (i.e. no search and bookcase look). But then again, since they added Genre in 2.0.1 maybe, just maybe, they'll remember us and our own collections.
