PDA, iPhone or both

Has anyone ever considered the possibility that a PDA of this size could easily also be an iPhone with only Bluetooth headset connection?

why would they need to come out with a damn newton if the iPhone is a hot seller and is about to be changed completely as the weather gets warmer. Meaning new iPhone, SDK, Apps Store, 2.0 software etc etc.

How many agree that the Apple Newton will make a comeback on WWDC, making it a product similar to the Apple iPhone but on a stronger foundation built for the business crowds?

i highly doubt it.

apple just wants to focus on iPhones. having devices like an iPhone and a newton would be highly unlikely..

It's entirely possible since that photo surfaced that was taken from the an Apple website with that things are getting touchy caption.

They could probably get away with just letting 3rd party apps install/provide an SDK. I know a doctor friend who would love to have an iphone, but can't because the software he currently uses on his PDA can't work on it.

Yo Southie!!! Red Sox!!! :D:D

I really hope they release an 8" tablet sometime in 2008. A cross-product between an iPod touch and MacBook, hopefully in the $800-$1,000 range, :p

agreed

I've been carrying the banner for an apple umpc for years now (just do a search in these forums!). I would love to have a handheld surfin' device, light weight, and about 1/2 the size of an MB screen. The iPhone is difficult to surf with...especially us old folks.

Apple UMPC = iNewton :)

I 100% Agree, I would still keep my iPhone but I would love to surf the internet or watch tv using the slingmedia player on something other than my mbpro when in the house.

This is just not going to happen. Perhaps a tablet PC device (11"-12" all screen device) , but not a stand alone PDA. EVERY (and I mean every) stand alone PDA manufacturer has migrated to a converged device smartphone. Apple has completely redefined the category, particularly after 2.0 and the App store. Why on earth would I want another device, and EVEN IF I DID, why wouldn't I just buy a 32gb Touch. Once Documents to Go and PocketInformant release their products AND Apple delivers system-wide cut & paste; game, set, match.

If they really want to top that, work on that super slim, SSD only tablet PC that "docks" with an iMac as if it were a slide in DVD (saw that patent app earlier this year). Now you're talking...

The article says that Apple have canned an unreleased PDA only a few years ago. That's why I believe this to be the new iPhone.

You mean additional iPhone model. We just got the new iPhone. This new device will surely be more for the road warrior, laptop replacement. The iPhone is a PDA by the original definition, but it is geared towards being small and always with a consumer. I would imagine this new device would be a paradigm shifting approach to a tablet that may or may not also have phone capability.
