There's also the display IR issue. There are lots of scare stories on YouTube, but I'll have to wait to see how bad it really is on my specific machine.

I've seen the YouTube stories too and I don't doubt that some people are affected. But I tested eight machines before I decided to buy mine, six of them had LG screens. None of them displayed any image retention at all. And the one I finally bought doesn't either, even though it's an LG screen.

It may be true that most specimen with IR issues have an LG screen, but I don't think it's all that widespread.

But this will almost always be the case. It's just the nature of technology. While your other concerns are valid (with any computer purchase) worrying about playing next year's game is useless.

So are you trying to convert from $3k euros to US $ in your first post where you said $2k?

Nope. I wasn't the one who said 2k! That was Spink10.

EDIT
---------
What I was trying to say with my comment to your comment that corrected Spink's comment ("That config is $3k US as well"), was that $3k is actually quite a bit less than €3k, but that European sales taxes account for most of that difference.

Oh, those nested comments… ;)

YET ANOTHER EDIT :)
-------------------------
Just to clarify:
1) I posted that I was happy, but didn't mention any price at all
2) Spink10 said I ought to be happy, having spent 2k (currency not specified)
3) I replied that I actually paid 3k - in Euro
4) You said that my config's actually 3k in dollars
5) I said that €3k is 20 - 30% more than $3k, but that that difference is likely down to the European sales tax.

Is the graphics lag caused by the graphics switching? I had the same problem with my 15 MBP so I just used gfxCardStatus to keep it on discrete graphics when I am using graphic intensive programs and I keep it on integrated when I am trying to save battery. I am hoping that the graphics lag is a simple fix because the rMBP looks good. Otherwise I might just sell my MBP and get a newer iMac.

Are you using 10.8.x? Have you tried resetting SMC? PRAM?

I haven't experienced any lag outside of some notorious web sites, like Facebook. Certainly not in the GUI of OS X.

I am using Mountain Lion. I haven't resetted SMC or PRAM yet. I know that this seems to be the universal answer to any Mac problem but are you sure that this will help? How exactly would that help to solve the GUI lag?

For example, when using gestures to swipe through months in calendar, there is always a clear lag, it feels like if the GUI animation would run at a low FPS.

Thanks.

I have the same issue using ML and reseting SMC. It doesn't always lag but it does enough to be noticeable.

With that said - it is definitely the best computer I've owned/used as well. Definitely happy with the purchase and the guilt of blowing 3k on a laptop melted away once I powered it up.
