Rolex - boring, no notifications, expensive
AW - engaging, notifications, cheap (in comparision)

The Edition is expensive too, but perhaps better compared to a Patek. Apple is marketing the Edition to the nouveau riche, as nothing screams "I have money" more than dropping $10K-17K on something that will be obsolete in a few short years. Young people who find themselves hooked on smartwatches and can't function without them (much like iPhone) would consider a new Edition on a yearly basis rather than a $150,000 Patek that they buy once when they're able to afford them. This might mean throwing craftsmanship and engineering (for which Swiss luxury watches are known) out of the window though. That's why Jony Ive gleefully suggested that Switzerland is in trouble in the long run.

Oh, imagine it. A lot of us that own a lot of Apple products (my wife and I each have an iPhone, iPad and Mac), but I would never buy an Apple Watch in its current form. To feminine looking, bezel wastes lots of space, little customization for watch faces, UI is clunky and laggy, way too many issues with this first gen from lifting screens to sticky crowns to tattoo's effecting HR, and it is overpriced for what it provides. And now that Android Wear can be paired with an iPhone, for notifications and alerts, I can use my 360 with my iPhone.

This week will be 2weeks since my wife received her 38mm SS AW. She doesn't have any tattoos on her wrist, and the same could be said for many others. The moto360 HR sensor is a joke. My wife power walks up and down sugarloaf mountain With her AW. Alongside her Garmin fo runner & HR chest strap to see how acurate the AW HR was. And it was dead on all the time. Also I haven't notice any lagging with the AW UI at all, it been great so far. And in my opinion the AW is the best looking smart watch on the market today. Not bad for a 1gen, and I like the fact that u can make and received call or hand it of to your phone very useful feature for sure.

And seeing that the AW just entered into the smart watch world. It's already blown away the compitions. Can u imagine when the developers start to get the handle on things. And also the all the software updates to come. And also I don't think user experience would be quite as polish. Using the 360 with the iPhone instead of the Apple watch. Any way to each his own enjoy your 360.

That guy spends his days on the AW forum saying how bad it is and how much he likes his 360 more. Don't worry about him. Wouldn't have even known he posted because I had to ignore him a while back.

People need to realize that smart watches in general don't change your life, but increase your quality of life. Everyone is expecting smart watches to do what smart phones did and change the way we communicate and consume information. We are not there yet, and for the time being people need to realize that a smart watch's purpose is to just make your life a little easier.

Oh ok I will do the same then, and ignore him. Yeah when Apple first announced, they where coming out with the AW. And what the watch would be able to do. I know right then that I would be getting it on launch day. And I wasn't expecting it to change my life. But I know that some of features would be really useful to me. So now I anxiously waiting for my 42mm SS BSB. My wife is really enjoying hers.

As a senior citizen myself I can add this difference between a Rolex and an :apple: watch:

I've fallen on the floor and can't get up,

The Rolex can tell the time,

The :apple: watch can get me help.

Yep, ditch the Rolex!!

You must have gotten the special, super duper Apple Watch. The only perfect one in existence that doesn't have lag. Congrats.

You're correct, as the Apple Watch keeps far more accurate time than a Rolex.

As long as you charge it everyday and it has access to a charged iPhone itself having access to an online time synchronisation server.

Take the two watches to a remote location and see which one is more accurate after 24 hours of no internet (at best) or no power (at worst).

People, old or otherwise, need to learn/understand that the Apple Watch is not designed as an iPhone replacement. It's Apple Watch, not Apple iPhone-on-your-wrist

I guess you're in the minority. I just went out to a nice dinner at a very posh restaurant last weekend. This is a place people dress up for dinner. I can't even count how many cell phones were in the hands of people at their dinner table. Times have changed.

Please understand that the post you replied to was obvious sarcasm. :)

You need to go to a nicer resturant!

I eat a Ruth Chris once a month and hardly ever see anyone holding or using their phone.

Chipotle is not that classy of a dining establishment!:p

Not surprising to get such an unclassy response from you. I was referring to Le Colonial in SF. Don't worry, that place is most likely over your head.

That's still considered low class behavior. High class people make it a point of not using their phones at the dinner table. Just because low class people dress up doesn't make them high class.

Assume much? You weren't there so don't refer to people as "low classed". Quite an elitist comment.

Agreed. A rolex is a true mechanical work of art where the Apple watch is just a battery, circuit board, lcd gadget that will be outdated in a year. Im not biased as I own both. Totally different animals. Sad thing is your more likely to get mugged for the Apple watch then a Rolex lol.

Also I think the Submariner will do a little better at the beach or in the water. Just a guess haha :)

Apple Watch and Rolex should NEVER be mentioned in the same sentence. NEVER! There is no comparison whatsoever between the two.

It's a complex mechanical watch that tells great time just not as accurate as an electronic or atomic clock. Obviously you have no interest in mechanical watches or care and that's fine but some people enjoy them. My point is people don't buy a mechanical watch to get the most accurate time possible.

So you're telling me it's a $10K (or more) timepiece with which telling time is not the point?

Cool story, bro.

Mine doesn't lag either. Guess that makes two of them.

You can have a different watch man, it's cool. The Apple Watch doesn't make your 360 a worse product and you don't need to constantly justify why it's better for you. We get it, you have the 360 and you like it, cool.

"Oh shoot, I forgot to charge it last night, looks like I'm screwed." ;-)

Seriously though, I had thought to buy one for my mother for just this reason, as she'd never let us give her one of those alert pendants. At present she almost always wears her Bluetooth earpiece all day to take calls on her iPhone, but sometimes both it and the iPhone are on the charger. I didn't really see her using the watch otherwise. But when I realized she would have to charge it daily, I didn't feel like she would keep it up to truly be effective for the cost. Sometimes she forgets to put her phone or headset on the chargers and they run out mid-day. And it would offer no protection at night, while it's on the charger, when she might have to get out of bed to go to the bathroom, which happens frequently. Though in all fairness, she probably wouldn't wear the watch to bed anyway.

The Apple Watch has taken over my wrist. It doesn't matter if the Rolex/Omega is a work of art/mechanical masterpiece, it's not as useful as the Apple Watch.

The animated Mickey always make me smile. A Rolex doesn't even come close, despite the cost difference.
