I am with 10.11.4 on my MBP 15" (Late 2011).
In my case, my MBP do not boot. When I press the turn on button the only thing that happens is MBP getting hot, battery drain. After some minutes I am able to boot. Meanwhile I always try SMC reset (shift control option power) but I am not sure if this helps.

Anyone having similar issues?

Any solution, yet?

Yours is related to the GPU issue, and not the 10.11.4 safari issue, there's a recall and apple will fix it for you.
Check here, https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/.

Just a note to join the chorus of people having the same exact problem. I just don't use Safari anymore and have switched to Chrome.

I don't know if this bit of information helps or not but Safari was also not showing pictures that are on posted in these forums. A black square would just show up when I clicked on the thumbnail. I did not experience it anywhere else. Both problems showed up at around the same time. The only other thing that I suspected might be contributing to the problem is that I recently installed the YOINK app......I'll stay tuned.

I doubt it.

Referring to the GPU issue I made a visit to the genius bar 10 days ago. They did the test for 30 minutes and it passed.

Once again I check the symptons below:
  • Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen ( I DO NOT HAVE)
  • No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on (MBP IS NOT BOOTING therefore NO VIDEO)
  • Computer restarts unexpectedly (I DO NOT HAVE)

Do I miss something?

Started the day using Chrome and then installed Safari Technology Preview and this is the first day since I downloaded .4 that my Macbook hasn't frozen. I have a great feeling about Safari Technology Preview, it seems to have solved the problem and is bug free. :)

PS- It works much better than Chrome as well, IMO.

Add me to the list.
I couldn't find any special website that has this effect.

Once it happened while switching to Safari from another fullscreen app (it got stuck at the exact transition between the 2 apps), so obviously not when browsing heavy content.
Today it happened just when logging in to facebook with just 2 or 3 other tabs open, nothing heavy in it.
Annoying

I hadn't seen this thread until just now, but same issue here with a 2015 MBP. 10.11.4 didn't help. At first I was holding the power button but subsequently found that it fixes itself if I wait it out (~30 seconds) [Edit: Except it just happened again and hadn't recovered after 3 minutes]. One of the earlier posts suggests that the window manager may be restarting behind the scenes; that would make sense given the symptoms.

I just had my first freeze since switching to Safari Technology Preview, ~27 hours after installation. Thats an improvement but a bit disappointing.

Can you publish the crash log somewhere ? I have the Safari Tech Preview since its release and never had any problem. I don't have Flash installed.

where in the console is the pertinent crash log, I'm happy to publish it here if it is helpful.

Ok so i have used STP extensively since yesterday, i have used it WAY more than normal and with regular Safari my iMac would have frozen atleast 3 times in the same period but with STP i am still up and running so it seems to be working fine (knock on wood, i probably jinxed it again by writing this post ;) )

Mine is doing well today too, so it is waaaaaaay better than standard Safari for sure. I'm still in a wait and see mode but I am much happier than I was yesterday morning when I didn't have the STP as a choice. Fingers crossed!

You have to remember the time when the crash happened then look in the console.

You should see something like this in the log when the crash happens:

Code:
Mar 25 18:53:01 Macbook com.apple.WebKit.WebContent[2172]: [18:53:01.241] FigAgglomeratorSetObjectForKey signalled err=-16020 (kFigStringConformerError_ParamErr) (NULL key) at /Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/CoreMedia/CoreMedia-1731.15.202/Prototypes/LegibleOutput/FigAgglomerator.c line 92
Mar 25 18:53:06 Macbook com.apple.WebKit.WebContent[2172]: <<<< VT-DS >>>> VTDecompressionSessionWaitForAsynchronousFrames: WARNING: waited 5 seconds for video decoder to complete asynchronous frames; maybe it is stuck or has a buggy path that does not complete a frame?

I streamed video on Safari. I closed the tab, was online shopping.
Left the safari and opened a video on quicktime and my MBP crashed again.

I noted the time. These are the last entries from my console:

Code:
Apr 2 19:52:59 MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: Sandbox: com.apple.WebKit(2622) deny(1) mach-lookup com.apple.dock.fullscreen
Apr 2 19:53:09 MacBook-Pro WindowServer[172]: _CGXRemoveWindowFromWindowMovementGroup: window 0x36f is not attached to window 0x371

I hope this is helpful and goes someone here a clue as to what is going on:

Please learn to put code inside bbcode so it doesn't clutter the page use ["CODE]paste your code here[/CODE"] without the brackets. Also, don't use Safari Technology Preview because the issue isn't fixed and you just complicate this more by using a beta browser.

Looks like you both have a different reason it crashes then mine, which complicates this even more. And honestly it's pretty ****** because the system doesn't trigger a "memory dump" and doesn't create any report of the crash...

I tried editing the post using bbcode as described, sorry I don't know more about this. I tried its with and without the quotation marks....

STP only crashes once per day rather than Safari which crashes every hour......I think I'll stick with STP.

My problem is really annoying. Crashing happens also when I sign off and leave my MBP in sleep. Time to time I hear fan blowing very strong and MBP too warm. I need to hard restart the MBP. I am afraid I do not see any specific crash log but here is what I see:

Come on Apple.........

Used STP from day one, used it more than i usually use regular Safari for over a week now, no problem at all, not a single freeze. Updated to 10.11.5 yesterday or something, thought i would test regular Safari again and see if Apple have done anything about this issue in 10.11.5, 2 hours in i got the first freeze again while scrolling on Instagram, rebooted and used Safari again, same thing, froze while scrolling on Instagram.

For me, the issue seems to be solved in STP, nothing i did could invoke the system to freeze up during the last week, 2 hours with regular Safari and its back to the usual constant freezing. I am gonna continue using STP.

Seriously Apple, i cant describe just how frustrated i am right now, they have had almost 3 months to solve this issue and more and more people start reporting the very same issue and yet, Apple cant seem to figure it out...

Atleast we have gotten some new Watch bands.....................................thanks Apple.........................

(yes the last line is immature but i have given up all hope now)
