The Samsung 830 SSD thread

Thanks for the link.

However, this doesn't come with the mounting hardware. Is that necessary to install the ssd into a Macbook Pro?

For anyone interested, Newegg is having a 1 day sale today on the 128GB Samsung 830 SSD.

$140 with code 24HRSALE321N
I believe this is the cheapest it's ever been.

Before or after entering the desktop? It takes me about the same time to respond on my 2010 MBA with Apple supplied SSD.

As far as I know, SSD will install in the same spot as your existing hd. Usually a mounting bracket is only needed for installing on desktop computers when you put it in a 3.5" slot. The only mounting hardware you need is if you decide to take out your dvd drive and want to put your existing hard drive there having a dual HD setup.

Idling in the desktop, goes to sleep and when I wake it up that´s when it happens.

But if it´s a common thing then I shouldn´t worry.

Thank you for this thread! it helped me enable TRIM on my 512 Samsung 830. I have no problems at all with it and it makes a big difference.

I love my mac but its really messed up that apple doesn't automatically enable TRIM for all SSD drives.

Upon their release, I purchased a Samsung 512GB 830 SSD.

Along with an 8GB ram upgrade, it's turned my 15" MBP into a rocket. The install went fast and easy, with no issues at all.

I use it day in and day out, so I have an awful lot of run time on it. To date the reliability and performance is flawless.

Does this look right to you guys ?

Shouldnt read be a bit higher ?

This happens for me as well on my Samsung SSD. I think it's just the system initializing the hardware and such. Nothing to worry about, and much better than with a standard HD.

I'm getting 325 MB/s write, 430 MB/s read on my 128GB Samsung 830 installed in the main bay of my 13" Early 2011 mbp

Just bought the 128gb Samsung 830.. will a phillips screwdriver take out the torx screws on the actual hard drive?

No, but if you are careful you can just use a pair of pliers to remove them. They are not on that tight normally.

Trim enabler will do the job well. Easy to use, no issues on my 830ssd 256GB

Installed the Samsung 830 256gb and seems to work great.

Still dunno if i should enable TRIM...

I enabled TRIM day one. Two months later the read/write speeds are just as fast.

Yeah but garbage collection should also work good right?

The TRIM commands are special for the Apple drives with their custom firm wares. I had a OCZ vertex 3 and TRIM was no success = BEACHBALLS

I just installed my 256gn 830, I enabled trim with the tri enabler, everything is running perfectly. I went ahead and encrypted the entire drive and it's amazingly fast.
