So I've seen you post this before, and I'm curious what you're talking about. LOL. When iOS updates are released, they go to all devices at the same time. At no point has the iPhone 15 Pro Max not gotten an iOS update when the 16 Pro Max did.
I read it as not all features trickle down at the same time.

We are talking about the S24 update so its got same features as the S25 One UI etc etc

So likewise the IP 15P/PM has taken 7 months and 5 updates to get the same features as the IP16 and now both are still waiting for the rest of the updates Apple has promised

So by comparison you only waited 3 months for parity with Samsung and 7 months with Apple for the previous year flagship phones

Just received a pretty huge 932MB update on my unlocked S24+, still with the may update, so if must have been some optimizations under the hood, which are always welcomed. Haven't actually encountered bugs since the OneUI 7 update, though.

Can someone help me understand the Google Play update? I've never really understood why I need to update the phone twice. Also, the Google Update is still for April and has always been at least 2 months behind. Why can't it be an all in one update thing. I also wish there was an easier way to see both updates so you can update them together.

Google development has been the weakest for a long time.

Both on Android and ChromeOS, they have rushed to market epic fails (affecting only one platform at a time) a number of times during the past ~3-4 years.

They should model UI/UX and release management after Apple or others who "get it" (and are all grown up) in my opinion.

Update the phone twice? Google Play update is solely based on the app... similar to how we update any other 3rd party app. Of course, with Google Play there's other components added to it... in terms of making sure everything is secure when it comes to vulnerabilities in the app store.

I'm not sure what's the confusion behind it... we have (monthly) software updates pushed for our phone and Google Play is tied to the "app" store.

I don't know... Android does it a manner where everything isn't tied to "one" major update. For example, the only way Safari on iOS gets new features is by way of IPSW whereas Google can push an update specifically to Chrome, GMail or Gemini.

I do agree that Apple approach is more unified, but there's some benefit in the way Android does it though.

Whenever I was supposed to update the phone, I was also supposed to update the Google Play thing as well, but it sounds like one is just updating the app and the other is the main update. That makes sense.

I always hated Apple not updating on an app to app basis and I'm surprised they still don't do it. I shouldn't have to wait a year just to see Apple Music updated, yet that's how IOS has always done it. It seems like if apps need to be updated, they should be updated separately.

I think people may be confusing Google store update for apps and Google Play update which is very different.

It is a bad decision to have to update part of the firmware/software buried under sub menus. Most people probably never update Google Play.

Major firmware update and minor are completely separate from Google Play or Google Store.

One major flaw with Google Play is there are never any prompts to update unlike OS updates.

Fragmentation in Android is still a thing unfortunately.

Apple handles updates much better in my opinion.

Yeah I was talking about the Google Play update. I thought that was understood but maybe not? It just seems silly to me that you're updating the phone itself with the One UI software, but then you have to go search for a Google Play update (Mine is currently the April Version) and it can be hard to find. It seems like one update would impact the other. What I was talking about with individual apps was another issue (like Apple Music or Notes). Apps should not be part of the overall software and should be it's own thing that could recieve updates on a regular basis.

I’m not.

But Android has a different system than Apple... as I stated above, and I disagree that it's buried. It's a simple tap on Google Play system update in settings (Software Information)... and it will direct you to update it.

One major flaw with Google Play is there are never any prompts to update unlike OS updates.
Yes, it's true you never prompted. But in some cases... if a user gets a monthly security update, sometimes it will apply a Google Play update as well.

Does anyone have the Apple Music app on Android? It was recently updated and now all my playlists and folders are screwed up. The folders are there, but they have duplicated all the playlists (And sub folders) and now I have a big list in the playlist section. I turned uninstalling the app and signing out and then signing back in and no luck. It was fine before the update and now it's not. Any tips on how to fix it without deleting all the playlists?

My new S24U landed today via Amazon UK to be my business mobile...

Fitted it with a Ruddy Supcase case. Forgot how rugged these cases are, feels very well protected indeed 👌🏼

So who still has an s24 ultra?

This thread is so dead. 😆

I am keeping mine as long as possible and it is still chugging along just fine.

So how many people on here are still using their s24ultra and how many are still using it as their primary or only phone?

I am using mine as my only phone probably for another year or two at least.

Also for those planning to hold onto your phone longer do you have any tips and tricks for performance, battery life, cameras, oneui tweaks, etc.

I still love this phone and want to keep some community alive. I used to go to forums related to a specific phone back in the day and install custom roms. Miss those days and don't miss them in some ways. Obviously that won't happen here but I would love to see how people keep their phones running and looking new like cases, screen protectors and accessories.

I'm looking for nice Android type forums I can visit. I've tried Android Central and here but here just sticks more because I've used it longer.

I would have kept the S24 had it not cracked when I was on a trip. I went up the S25 and hope to keep the phone for at least 3 years, maybe longer.

This is one of the best Android forums online. Ironically it is an Apple focused forum site.

So I still have my s24 ultra and so far I still enjoying it as an everyday phone.

I am tempted really only for the Pixel 10 Pro and fold and the new iPhone. Samsung has lost me on new phone sales for now. Besides a faster processor and faster ram there is really not that much new hardware wise on the s25/26 ultra and in my opinion they are taking the ultra in the wrong direction.

I may wait another year and see what the iPhone 17/18 has to offer. I love Android and the back gesture and software support length is no longer an issue. I think the biggest difference in my buying habits now is that I don't feel like I am racing a clock with 3-5 years of updates. Now with 7 years of major Android updates I can take my time and truthfully buy a new phone based on actual performance degradation rather than an arbitrary date.

Now I could use my phone until performance really starts to take a dip. Conceivably I could replace the battery once and probably have good results until around year 6.

So I have about 4 years to decide. That is a huge difference from maybe 3 years of Android upgrades and 5 years of security updates or worse back several years ago.

Using feature set and performance as a metric instead of forced obsolescence is great for us all and it is forcing me to re evaluate how I buy phones. As economic realities has also put pressure on me to wait for a big purchase that at this point is optional and not needed.

I get excited for each new phone release but with more companies releasing incremental upgrades and longer software support it makes me think even if I had the money I should switch from yearly to a 3 year cycle minimum and maybe I will challenge myself to keep using this phone until it dies on it's own. Never, ever used any hardware to it's software support end except for some rare exceptions. Maybe now I can be the guy with really old tech that keeps chugging along past most others?

It is in it's activity, but I kind of feel like once new phones are released, old phones tend to be forgotten. There really isn't much activity in this forum except for the "latest and greatest". I tried making a thread talking about the software, but that didn't really go anywhere.

I completely agree.

That is human nature though I guess. People on here are generally tech enthusiasts who have enough extra money to buy a new phone every year. There are the initial hype reviews. Then reality sets in and people will notice the flaws. Then comes a wish list for the next model and new release rumors until the next model is released. Rinse and repeat.

If you have an older device say over 1 year old up until 2 years there will be intermediate conversion and then it falls off the cliff. This is where we are with the entire s24 line, P8 line, etc.

iPhone forums on this site are a bit different since Apple users tend to hang onto their products longer but the same thing plays out there too.

Maybe if you talk with a moderator on these forums you could ask for a permanent section for Android software and older devices say over 2 years old and beyond. I would love to see a separate section just for those types of posts. Since everything is mixed into the alternative to iOS only the latest and greatest get attention.

I'm only on Android Central and here so it's usually like stated previously you get the new threads for newer Android phones dominate them it falls off but I do see more flow at AC with the previous models. I also think folks settle in with a phone and have less to talk about after using it for a longer time.

So what do people who still have a s24 ultra think of the new s26 Ultra design?

Honestly I am pretty disappointed with the direction Samsung is going.

Makes me appreciate my old boxy s24u.

What do you think?
