Usually I wouldn't care that they did that. I never watch that channel, I actually despise it. It's just a computer, but then I thought about how useful it would have been for a school. That makes me think it was a poor decision, but other than that I don't care. The TechTV forums are saying it's on BitTorrent, does anyone know where the torrent file is, I am dying to see this.

i agree on more than one part

i want to see the video

and normally i would not care...but on that forum so many of those idiots are blinded saying how stupid it is (macs in general) they are very conceited.

That's why we post on a Mac forum, so we keep our sanity. Look at all the mac users on that site posting, they are getting teared to shreds by 13 y/o's. If a young teenager can't play Counterstike on a Mac it is worthless in their eyes. Their thread is entertaining though, I've enjoyed reading the comments and all the swearing.

Just for you information, you can get the torrent for the show at suprnova.org And it's episode #22.

It's a shame also, I don't get many channels where I live, so I have to download most things off BT.... :( Tech Tv, NASCAR, 60 Minutes, Jeopardy, and a few others......

Eh, then why am I using a PowerBook (saved for two years for the thing) and an iMac instead of my Wintel, even though I can play Counterstrike on it?

Which episode was it? Now I kinda want to see it.

I haven't watched since it became G4TechTV. It's pandering is all. They know their new audience. 12 year-old gamers who scream "Mac sux" and have no idea why. Reading the forums there a bit, they seem to be filled with them. The few rational people left are outnumbered, and are talking about leaving because the show sucks now. I hope they find their new audience and it increases their ratings , because us old, loyal fans are leaving in droves.

I'm sure there's a market for stuff like that.

This thread has tought me two things:

1) People actually WATCH the Screen Savers.

2) Those TechTV discussion users are just as easy to read as those from a pro wrestling forum. :D

I haven't watched TSS since they moved the air time earlier and canceled the night re-air in favor of that silly robot war show. I remember the good days when it was Pat, Leo, and a group of really hot female sidekicks. They actually had good info on PCs, Macs, Linux, programming, homemade WiFi equipment, security, useful Tivo/game console hacks, tasteful/useful case mods, and everthing that a geek could want info on. The show was 1.5 hrs. (later 1 hr.) and you could really learn some stuff by watching. Oh well, now it seems like this G4 channel is for kiddie wannabe 733t gamerz, Mac haters, and anime fans. I'm going to take this worthless channel off my DirecTV menu.

BTW, does anyone remember the "cracker challenge" that they had? They had a PC and a Mac and they told the audience to try and crack the boxes. The Mac went untouched for days. The PC was immediately flooded by dumbass script kiddies with their pathetic DoS attacks. Of course, that kept the REAL skilled crackers from busting the PC. The hosts were pissed at those sorry-ass kiddies for ruining the contest. At least the Mac was untouched!

The real question is who is actually watching what, is TSS the most watched show on the network and how have the ratings changed up or down since the merger. Will Comcast realize that they ruined a good thing by not keeping these networks separate, because if I'm right the reason for the merger was to get more people to watch G4 and TechTV being successful would carry over viewers. I would think this was a total bust for Comcast and if they want people to watch, the content has to improve on the G4 side of the network because all i've seen is crap from that side.

I take that back, the only show i like from that side would be icons, its not bad, everything else sucks.

totally agree

The screen savers have gone down the hole. This week they have been talking to chewbacca, going to watch street racing on a track, how to have a "733t" hacking backpack and yes batting a mac down. They did however have the woz on last week or the week before but the interview was pretty worthless. The show is filled with useless info and does anyone notice that the callers are getting dumber. Adam sucks. I also feel bad for sarah because her dad passed away on monday so she wont be on for a while.Kevin looks happily pissed at adam and dan just advertises for the gravity games. I hope they cancel screensavers, its like a fish out of water. They should just kill it.

I agree that tech tv has gone down hill since the merge. I'm a big fan of video games but how much do I really need to know/hear about them? I really don't mind Alex and I think he'll get better as the show goes on but if he says "Boyahkasha!" one more time I'm going to....Smash my pc with a baseball bat!

big deal, he trashed a Mac. if it were a pc most of you would probably be singing his praises.

Nah... I'd still think they were idiots. Kevin recycles the information that viewers provide him on his website.

Plus... Even if it was a PC... If it worked, they should have donated it to someone.

You guys dont seem to understand why it is G4TechTV today. You think it would be so simple as to just 'stop the merger'. but in reality, the reason the whole merger took place was because TechTV's ratings were drasticly low and they couldnt get any new advertisers to play commercials. If Comcast didnt buy TechTV, they would of went into bankruptcy, and the channel would be off the air until someone did buy it.

Comcast saw that as an opportunity. an opportunity to get their G4 network into more than 50 Million homes. So they bought TechTV, fired all the staff (they could apply again, and most did, as long as they moved to the LA studio), completely butchered the TechTV programming, and added nearly their entire G4 lineup in.

And all you guys saying you want Pat and Leo back... dont we all. but sadly, they both choose to not be involved with G4TechTV. - Leo is currently hosting Call For Help V2, but its only being shown in Canada...

I used to watch The Screen Savers every single night.... before G4 bought it out. Now it completely sucks. The first of the new "TSS" I caught was the one this thread is talking about, with the mac-destruction/hating. thats one thing that sucks about it already. the old TSS had a great balance of PC, Mac, and Linux based questions and segments. they geared their showed toward everyone, and never resorting to saying a certain system sucks, or destroying a certain system because one of the hosts think it sucks. it was a great show to watch, now I couldnt watch more than 20mins of it. after I saw the chewbacca segment, I had to change the channel.

and yes, Adam sucks, I hate hearing him talk, he tries so hard to be funny, but it doesnt work. same goes for all the other G4 personalities... they all sound sooo fake, its ridiculous.

also, I love video games just as much as the next guy, but I dont need to see 20 different shows about them everyday. I'd rather learn about the latest happenings in the tech industry, like I USED TO BE ABLE TO!

IMHO, TechTV has been total bullcrap since they became G4TechTV--

And now this?!

This is why I don't watch much TV.

right on... that station sucks now! i used to love watching it. the screensavers stayed good for awhile but now it sucks with the new host, god that dude is annoying. they kinda turned that station into an mtv piece of crap. too bad

Well if any of you dont know by now one of the new hosts of The ScreenSavers destroyed a PowerMac G4. Bunch of discussions about it over here.

It was brutal. I had to turn Away. The G4 was taking alot of punishment but didn't seem that much damaged on the outside just when he opened it up.

Update: Here's the torrent link from Suprnova.

Thats ridiculous, was there something wrong with it? Its not like destroying an old PC! I haven't watched the screensavers since Leo and Patrick left.

G4TechTV does suck.

I used to love the ScreenSavers. I would try to get my homework, etc. done before the show just so I could watch all 1.5 hours. Almost every show was good enough that I watched the whole thing.

By the way, what happened to Brett Larson who occasionally had a segment on how to do different things on the mac? They should have given him his own show. Even though the mac has single digit percentage market share, there would still be a lot more people interested in that show than the 100 different video game shows they have.

They should have put a couple of G4 programs into the TechTV lineup instead of the other way around. Where is their logic? There are a lot more people over the age of 12 than there are under that age? Why are they not trying to gain more marketshare by creating programs that people of all ages could enjoy?

Does anyone remember the show where they were trying to completely "erase" data from a hard drive? They put the hard drive in acid and showed the hard drive eaten away. They also showed video from what looked like someone's backyard. Kevin set up some thermite in the computer, started the reaction, and then ran as the computer burst into flames. I'm not sure if all the components were in the computer but it sure was fun to watch.

Here are my general complaints about TSS. A lot of the segments are worthless to me. They aren't much help to callers anymore. Things like hacking and wardriving are glorified. The hosts often act like jerks while trying to be funny.

If they wanna make the show respectable again, they need to get rid of Alex, Sarah, Dan "I'm a Total Foo-k Up" Huard, and Kevin. Let Yoshi and maybe Robert Heron host the show. They act professionally, and seem to know what they're talking about. Forget about having a cute chick or dorky sidekick on set. Take more calls per show, and keep all non-instructional segments to a minimum. Learing what games and gadgets actors enjoy is not helpful. Besides, they have the show "Players" to deal with that sort of thing. I think discussing news, legal issues, and new tech would be acceptable, but that should be secondary to offering help and advice.

This is just my uneducated opinion. I know nothing about TV production. Of course, neither do the G4 people, and they don't let that stop them.

Anyone have a "live" link to the video (non-BT)? I'm on a friend's computer and I don't want to download BT.

Just respect for other people's stuff.

I've got the torrent file if anyone wants it, I'm a little hesitant to post it on MR, but if a mod says it's ok, I'll upload it to the site. And sorry, I don't have a 'live' link to the show, if you wanna see the Mac get trashed, you'll have to download the entire show.... :(

Providing a live link from a cable modem wouldn't be a very smart idea. ;)

 Get rid of Kevin and Sarah? Kevin is very knowledgable on all sorts of technology and has a great onscreen personality. Sarah is also smart, showing Windows registry hacks as well as other stuff and she doesn't act like a complete moron like you would think MOST girls would do on a technology show. Don't get me wrong, I liked Patrick and Leo, but I really liked the shows with Patrick and Kevin.

I don't think that Yoshi and Robert would make good hosts. They are great for segments during the show though. I think they need to get a better (older?) cohost with Kevin and the show will be much better.

Ok, I've watched it now. 9/22/04 episode. That blonde guy is an ididot. And annoying. I reiterate my "playing to the lowest common denominator" comment. The dark haired guy looks like he's about to deck him, and I wouldn't blame him. That poor girl looked scared clutching her PowerBook. The funny part was that he couldn't totally destroy it until he cheated and opened it. Proof that Macs are tough.

I remember when that show didn't suck and was actually helpful. :( Ah well, I'm sure they are getting their advertising money, and apparently that's all that matters.

letterk seems to be holding up some sort of fort over there at the g4techtv boards. if i remember correcty, horrortaxi also used to post at the original techtv boards too.
