i don't remember having this with the update before 3.0, but anyway on 3.0 it has happened maybe 3 times since i updated, very few as you can see and the way to fix it is to let the screen go off and then hit the home key and swipe again( and it usually works then). I think it may be a lag, but not sure. anyone else have this.
btw i have restored as new iphone so its not that and it only happened after 3.0 it seems.

I've Noticed this too, a stutter not a freeze though, but I'm Jailbroken so it could be due to that

I have this issue and the only way to fix it is to basically "relock" the screen with the top button. I don't know what causes it, but it has not happened often enough for me to care.

I also have this problem, but it has not started since 3.0. My iPhones have frozen during the slide since I can remember.

I had this sometimes on my 2G too. Usually it's been booted for a while and a reboot takes care of it.

yea i think it happened once or something on the last software, but im not sure. i know it definitely happened now and yes the way to fix it is to hit the power button on top and then unlock it again.

Same here, there was almost no lag in the unlock screen in 2.2.1. But in 3.0, it takes a few seconds and not as smooth on my iPhone 3G.

I personally am going to downgrade my 2G back to 2.2.1, much more faster and responsive. I don't know if 3.0.0 was made to make older phones clunky in performance, but I know 2.2.1 is better in speeds.
