Download helper for Firefox
I've downloaded the Firefox for Mac Download Helper, but I cannot get the icon to appear -- either red blue and yellow balloons or grayed out balloons -- on the navigation bar or anywhere else. This is a good feature that I somehow deleted from my Mac, and I need help to get it back. Thanks.

I used to use Firefox but I've found that it's too much of a system resource hog and tends to kill my system. I've moved to using mainly Safari, and occasionally Opera.
three times today. my firefox has crashed since the update.
I loved using it before the update, now I had to get rid of it or else it would eventually crash my entire computer

For whatever reason I like using Firefox when I'm streaming vids from Fancast or Netflix, just seems to play better. Otherwise it's pretty much Safari for everything else-the Safari adblocker works great.
I wish FF had the Zoom in/Zoom out buttons like Safari~I use the keyboard shortcut but I just prefer buttons on the toolbar.

Thats why i love firefox so much. It can have every feature you want, but you dont have to deal with features you dont use getting in your way.
I have regained my love for Firefox too, during the past two days. I made it look kinda like Safari, but dropped all buttons in favor of keyboard shortcuts, trackpad gestures and Firegestures.
I love the flexibility. Adblock Plus works a lot better for me than Safari's Adblocks and Locationbar2 looks and behaves excellent.
Safari had me for a while but I'm done with it. Firefox crashes far less. The one and only slight thing bugging me is that FF doesn't use OS X dictionaries, but this should be implemented in 3.6.

"Every"?
I want me some multiprocess browsing so every time Flash goes down in one tab, it doesn't take down the entire browser. Like Chrome. Show me the plugin for that.
I love me some Firefox, too. It's my main browser for a reason, but there are things other browsers do better.

If you're not going to use the addons, there is probably no point. There are about 10 addons that I use regularly, and several more that I use frequently.
The other reason I use it is that I got comfortable with it in Windows, then when I switched to Mac, I just stuck with it.

There are many out of box cool stuff as well. Of course not everything will be useful for any given individuals. But here are some highlight:
1 .FAYT, search within the page WITHOUT bring up findbar with any mice or keyboard action.
2. awesomebar effectively brings up websites you want to go, it accelerates surfing in real world by alot
3. remembering multiple username/password on a webpage, imagine if you have more than one gmail account.
4. password remembrance notification bar, imagine you type in a username/password but not sure if its right, and browser pop up a window force you choose to remember or not before it will try to log you in.
5. imagine you accumulated numerous downloaded files and try to figure out where they are now, where was it downloaded from, etc, firefox's download manager allows you to search among them
6. handle ftp protocol.
7. drag elements among windows/tabs, supposed you are making a post at MR, open another tab/window, navigate to some sites, find some information, you can select them, drag it across tabs/windows and drop on the text area on your MR posting tab.
8. text entry preserve, imagine for whatever reason, you accidentally closed a tab when you making a long post in that tab. firefox will bring that back just by reopening the tab (works on browser crash as well)
9. full page zoom, even when you open a single picture, you can zoom it
10. drop down list of your most visited websites at urlbar, no need to type anything to goto your fav sites.
11. ability to select where save file each time you initiate a download
12. ability to restore selected tabs/windows upon reopen from a crash.
13. remember zoom level of each site
of course, with addons, you open anther thousands of doors.

One simple reason...
If Safari offered mime types I'd use it full time. I do a lot of database exports, and I can set Firefox to open Excel automatically instead of copying and pasting. And now that XMarks is on Safari, I am WAITING PATIENTLY to make the switch full-time.

It ain't all peaches and cream. The more you add, the more you add the chance of conflicts and instability. Even stupid stuff like ABP + NoScript aside, try getting the latest stable TabMixPlus to work with Arronax's incredible GrApple themes. You'll eventually find yourself trawling boards for useful userchrome.css edits and doing plugin reversions.

you should noticed all I listed are buildin functions.
not to mention, nobody is asking everyone to add all of the addons. They can browse through the list and try whichever they want.
and I do want to add, the conflict you talked about are rare and should not be an excuse against the addon system, I routinely use 10-20 addons, conflict between some of them do exist, but, by no way, the conflicts cancel the wonder of the convenience addons brought to me.
a latest stable TabMixPlus does not exist .. only crappy dev. builds of a crappy extension .. and naturally are some of the thousands crap .. but maybe later than in a perfect world ... 😛
What is the closest Appearance / Addon for Firefox to make it look just like Safari? 😉 Or is it a Theme? 😱
I use both and find they are about the same speed and i love the firefox add-ons but for some reason I am still loyal to apple by using safari

And if you noticed, I was responding to your comment about add-ons opening a thousand doors.
You can't go touting Firefox's versatility through addons on one hand and then claim that no one's forcing you to add them. That's just a logically inconsistent argument.
It's pretty well established that most Firefox crashes aren't due to the core but interactions with add-ons.
This is really just an inevitable side effect, b/c at this point, MozFF has become just as much a platform as a web browser. Safari dev community? What community? Moz dev community? It's so damn big no one person can claim they know what everyone's doing.

except my words you quoted was NOT about addons at all.
of course I go touting firefox's addon system, like I said, here and there conflicts among some addons by no means diminish the vast benefits of addon system.
There is a clear reasoning regarding the numbers, I would not use a small number of negatives to erase large number, vast large number, humongous large number of positives. Nor should anybody.
the Safari dev. community has the same problems
for example: Note to Saft users: Using both Glims and Saft on the same browser could have unexpected results.
