    Hi everyone!
The forum it's full of temperature threads and it've become difficult to find a "place to go" to compare our temps.

So I was searching for a thread like this one, and having found none, I decided to create one.

The idea it's to post here our main temps.

It would be nice to post wich program has been used to monitor.

The requerible test to post, it's to open 4 terminals and shoot a yes > /dev/null in all of them.
So, open 4 terminals and in everyone write this: yes > /dev/null, then push Enter.

edit: people with C2D, just shoot 2 terminals, cause there is no hyperthreading. So you only have to test your 2 physical cores.

    I start:

    Model: MBP i7 15" HR-AG HDD 500GB@7200rpm RAM@4GB
    Program used: iStat Pro Widget.
    Average CPU Idle: 40ºC.
    Full CPU: 101ºC
    Fans Idle: ~2000rpm.
    Fans Full: ~5100rpm.
    Fans started : @ ~90ºC.
    Full CPU after fans: ~85ºC.

    - (good to use this same template, or similars)
    - (screenshoots welcome!)

Don't let it go down people!
Let's give it a use! It's important for every owner, to know if we are on the "specs" or not!

I notice that the max temps are all around Tjmax - perhaps the CPU is throttling automatically (and possibly by different amounts - if the heatsink mounting is not identical).

For even better reference I think ppl should post core voltages + clock speeds at max. load as well.

Great idea for a thread - some facts not opinions
Could people post their CPU heatsink temps as well - I'd be interested in the difference

    got:

    Average CPU Idle: unknown
    Full CPU: 100 C
Heatsink at full CPU: 56 C
    Fans Idle: 2100 rpm
    Fans Full: 5000 rpm
    Fans started : unknown
Full CPU after fans: 91 C
    Heatsink after fans: 58 C

Note: he used Cinebench not yes > /dev/null

    My 13"

    Model: 13" MBP C2D 2.26 GHz late 2009
    Program used: iStat Pro
    Average CPU Idle: ~45 C
    Full CPU: 103 C
Heatsink at full CPU: ~83 C
    Fans Idle: 2100 rpm
    Fans Full: 3500 rpm
    Fans started : ~100 C
Full CPU after fans: 90-95 C*
    Heatsink after fans: 70-75 C

    * I think depends on other factors, eg what the GPU is doing or how hot the HDD is. If it's doing graphic or disk intensive tasks the fans run faster and the CPU a bit cooler. If it's just running yes > /dev/null it gets to about 95 C every time.

I don't think so but interesting idea. I've done some tests on mine running FFT loops and the time to complete a loop never changes even when the CPU is at maximum temperature (102 or 103 on mine).

I think Apple is smarter than that - I think it's designed a fan algorithm which allows the CPU to just slide under Tj,max. I guess Apple & Intel might have a big spat if there were long term reliability problems and it turned out Apple was routinely ignoring Intel's "never exceed" specs.

Of course YMMV and others might see throttling. Do you know a good program for me to check this? Something like iStat that doesn't mess around with my firmware.

One thing that used to get the fans cranking was just streaming a video from Netflix. On the new MBP i7, it never gets above 160F and the fans are loafing at 2000rpm.

Do you guys have "Automatic graphics switching" enabled? Or disabled?

i was thinking about getting a incase hardshell case. Does anyone have any comparisons in temp with it on and off?

These should be taken with both the intel gpu, and 330, but mine is with the 330 on, Im guessing heats up more?

The high numbers are peaks. Can someone post their results with an i5? I'm waiting on my i7 to even ship still, and am curious.

Any idea why my idle temp seems so high?

Your full load temps don't seem different from the other posters so I doubt there's anything "wrong". Are you sure it was completely idle? No Flash in Safari, no Spotlight drive indexing, complicated animated widgets? When my C2D is idle iStat Pro shows 97-92% idle with occasional spikes up to 90% or 85%.

    Program for comparison

Which program/code is everyone using to check their temperatures?

Might I remind everyone that your ambient temperatures will affect your notebook temps.

So in my humble opinion, the temperature of the room should be posted too.

It's actually weird how the fans behave, while doing regular tasks and light multitasking (firefox, itunes, downloads) fan rmps are going up a bit up to 2500-3000rpm But when launching really heavy apps from idling state, fans will not kick in before really high temps like 85-95 C

Never gets past 85 C if minimum fan speed set to 4000 rpm.
