Let's all just calm down a little bit. I'll be in another topic.

Everyone is calm here. You are the one insisting everyone is wrong (when it is the other one around) and implying they are ignorant and posting quizzes for them to take regarding electrons. Sorry bud, you simply aren't as smart as you think you are.

Actually that is bad info. Because its better to cycle the battery and allow it to go dead. Either way li-on batteries it still does not cause a problem either way. I have never had battery issues. You are the one giving bad advice. I am an engineer and work on devices like this all the time.

You might be an engineer, but that doesn't necessarily make you are a battery expert. Why don't we check with some more authoritative source? According to Isidor Buchmann's book Batteries in a Portable World: A Handbook on Rechargeable Batteries for Non-Engineers:

"A deep discharge with a full recharge causes undue stress to any battery, including Li-ion."

Furthermore, for Li-ion batteries, he explicity says that "The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last". table 8-24 shows the number of charge/discharge cycles a battery can deliver at various "Depth of Discharge (DoD)" levels before the capacity drops to 70%. The table shows that at 10% DoD you get almost as much as 10 times the number of charge/discharge cycles compared to 100% DoD.

And finally, these are his guidelines to prolong Li-ion battery life:

  • Do not discharge Li-ion too low; charge more often.
  • A random or partial charge is fine. Li-ion does not need a full charge.
  • Limit the time the battery resides at 4.20/cell (full charge), especially if warm.
  • Moderate the charge current to between 0.5C and 0.8C for cobalt-based lithium-ion. Avoid ultra-fast charging and discharging.
  • If the charger allows, lower the charge voltage limit to prolong battery life.
  • Keep the battery cool. Move it away from heat-generating environments. High heat and full state-of-charge, not cycling, cause short battery life in laptops.
  • Remove battery from laptop when used on the power grid.
  • It is not necessary to unplug the laptop from the power grid when not in use.
  • When the SoC fuel gauge becomes inaccurate, calibrate smart batteries by applying a deliberate full discharge and charge.*
  • Do not stockpile batteries for later use, as they will age. Observe manufacturing dates.
  • Add some charge before a long storage. The charge level is not as critical
    as cool storage.

What's so hard about not stockpiling dead batteries? If you can't manage not to do that, your battery is gonna be really really ****** and you'll have no hope.

Well that's easy. It's obvious. Mr. Engineer, I suggest you look into studying your craft a little more. Here, we study 6 hours a day, we don't break.

This forum being what it is, attracts a lot of false information.

I think you got me confused with one of the previous posters. I' m not an engineer, I'm a PhD. Besides the quote was addressing what some people were saying about completely discharging the battery with no ill effects, which would only be possible by leaving the iPhone without charging for a very, very long time.

A poster complained and started a poll over at the feedback section arguing he couldnt spot a pattern on how people voted negative and even though most didnt want it removed the mods bent to his whining.

It was a woefully abused and ultimately flawed system because of said abuse, that's why it was removed.

I personally don't care whether or not someone downvotes me or not. But from how it used to be, all you had to do was say one certain word and the fanboy calvary would jump in and show their disapproval.

There was never any legitamite reason people were down voting other than they wanted to support their own cause.

But I'll tell you this. As an outsider, this forum looks like it's filled with a butt load of naive people just begging to be corrected.

Looked in the mirror lately? LOL

Can't argue with any of that.

It was a trolls delight, in fact I'm convinced there were users who sat on here downvoting posts rather than writing them.

i sure did. my old iPhone(s) all completely shut down and drained the battery. nothing would happen until plugged in. admittedly it took a long time to drain but it does happen.

Yup, this happens with the iPhone. It can be dead to the point that when you plug in the cord nothing appears on the screen for a few minutes.

I hereby vote down all the OP's posts in this thread. Take that stupid MR.
