I also thought the road test of the BM and the Merc was good, the camera work was brilliant. All in all, a great episode.

Can't fault the post work, though Autocar TV's pastiche of it was bang on. :p

I'm surprised the Merc dropped the M5 that easily, AFAIK both put out 507bhp (Though the M5 is often quoted as 500 (though the actual output's probably being lost in a blur of PS equations :p) I'm assuming it was from a rolling start where the extra torque and kickdown gave the Mercedes the advantage.

It only dropped the M5 down the straight. Round corners the M5 had the edge!

That's the thing, I can't be bothered to check kerb weights, but I'm assuming the Merc is heavier, and even if it does have the advantage of 7hp, that certainly doesn't make up for the difference in distance between the two.

<edit> Just checked engines... that'll be the torque then. :p

Love to see what the new Audi RS6 Avant is like when compared to the Merc. and M5

Heavier... :p but it'll spank them both from a standing start just like the old RS6 did, incredible thrust when you stepped on the go-go pedal.

Though I recall reading that BMW are due to up the output of the M5 to somewhere in the mid 500's imminently.

Whether that will be enough to counter 573 and 650Nm between 1500 and 6250 is another matter entirely.

There aren't many American sports cars to test...there's the Panoz Esperante, the Saleen S7 and very little else, unless you count Cobra counterfits...there are lots of tuner companies of course, and some of them, like Lingenfelter or Callaway, are pretty sophisticated.
I have to admit, after I started watching TG I realized how crappy American sports cars really are. Sigh, give me a German one any day.

A decent show this week...shame about the Civic Type R.

I love German performance wagons (er...estates). :D

Most American cars are, unfortunately, not good. However, the Corvette is excellent. It's almost as if General Motors took all of their good ideas and put them into one car, leaving only bad ideas for the rest of their entire line.

Don't get too chummy with zee Germans though. They invented iDrive. :D

I loved it when the guy in the audience argued with Jeremy about how the new Civic Type R (that he'd just bought) was better-looking...he was a real knuckledragger. :D

I Like Mercedes' COMAND. Sounds very German...

[Basil Fawlty voice] I will take your orders, [German accent] which must be obeyed at all times![/Basil Fawlty voice]

It didn't fare favourably given that East Yorkshire was also featured in the same episode – anywhere else would look rubbish in comparison too, to be fair. ;)

I think you've got yourself in a muddle there Jaffa. Don't forget, there was a bloke wading through what can only be described as crap... I saw no river... ;) The poor bloke was trying to wander down a typical Yorkshire street. Surprised he wasn't mugged.

Ah, but it was low tide on the Humber. Besides, all the crap is on the Lincolnshire side of the estuary. ;)

That guy is quite famous in these parts for his river walking exploits. he's done the Humber a few times and other rivers too, including the Mersey and the Thames I believe, to raise a fair bit of cash for charity. We'll sponsor anyone for anything, us.

I've had two Toyota Hilux pickups, and while I won't say they are pleasant to drive they are rugged little things...

American pickups are generally every bit as tough but larger and not quite as well made. I wish Toyota sold the pickup as a diesel here in the States...:(

Finally saw the Arctic race episode. Wow. I should probably buy a Toyota.

Damn you!!:(

One daughter ill, so missed first showing, then another ill whilst the repeat was on, so still haven't seen it! (don't worry - I DID think of getting rid of the kids if it's ever repeated again!!) (and don't ask about our video recorders, etc - a sore point with 3 girls under 4!)

Has anyone seen it on YouTube et al?

I tried looking on iPlayer (BBC catch-up service) but it never has appeared for download either!

Help, anyone?

Nig.
