When they do those comparisons, I'm often left thinking "which would I buy?"

I love that BMW. For a track, clearly the best by far. But I love the Audi for being 'sensible' - that engine (and I've heard it in person, it's beautiful) - the understated design. The Merc just doesn't enter my radar - don't know what it is about them, never wanted one, it sounds too chunky.

Great show, as ever. I'll be spending my sunday nights in a chair, knee tucked under my chin, slowly rocking backwards and forwards, until the next series starts.

I didn't know about that :p

At least he was big enough to accept being wrong. Most people wouldn't...

Given Clarkson loves the V8 R8, I wonder what he'll make of this far more powerful, torquey, monster of a thing - even if it is a diesel!

I can already imagine the jokes about it injecting Urea in the exhaust fumes (yes you did read that right...).

Looks fantastic... but its still a diesel.

Errr yeah... a V12 diesel though. :D

I'd wait for the V10 petrol version.

That'll be released first. ;)

I'd lay money on the diesel being the quicker daily driver. The V10 won't get anywhere near the in gear performance... It'll be interesting to see if the engine still has the characteristic V12 harmonics though. :D

Although there are no emissions figures for the car, Audi claims it will meet the forthcoming Euro 6 regulations due in 2014. The engine uses the AdBlue injection system, which adds urea to the exhaust to cut nitrogen oxide emissions.

Does that mean it has a small tank you have to pee into?

Top Gear IS the best show on TV. No contest IMO.

Favourite line, so far, on the Botswana special -

"I've teamed my kakai, with a BINLINER! V-Necked - last time I wore one of these, er, went to see the clash!" - Jezza

"Oooh it's got babies - SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!" - Jezza, polar special

The show is hilarious - bring on Season 11~!

God knows how that's going to work.

There's a small tank that's filled with AdBlue, that is brimmed when you buy the car, and is then refilled at each main service interval... so in reality it's really no different from other fluids in your motor. ;)

Anyway, I bet that TDi R8's going to be a buzzy little thing :D it's almost the best of both worlds, you have the inherent (or in this case, enormous) in-gear flexibility common to diesels, or you get to cane it through the gears like a race engine because of it's comparatively narrow power band... :D

Confirm on a new, US-based Top Gear:

The pilot will be filmed at a secret location around Los Angeles equipped with a race track and hangar where the show will be filmed in front of a audience.

NBC reality chief Craig Plestis said the network already is getting numerous inquiries from car companies that had heard rumblings about a U.S. remake.

“This is a favorite of all automobile companies as it shows their cars in such a great light,” he said.

NBC reality chief Craig Plestis said he is a longtime fan of “Top Gear.”

“It all comes down to subject matter — it’s a cool show about cars,” he said. “It’s very compelling for us because we have a great platform and space on the network to have such a show.”

Among “Gear’s” popular segments that will be replicated in the U.S. are races where the hosts have to reach a destination using different modes of transportation, road tests, challenges like converting and refurbishing existing cars into anything from a stretch limo to an amphibian and celebrities racing a midsize car. (”American Idol’s” Simon Cowell holds the record for fastest lap time with a Chevrolet Lacetti.)

The series will premiere at 11 p.m. on March 4th before moving to its regular time period at 10 p.m. March 11th.

I predict it will be ***** - watered down, sycophantic car reviews, and too many contrived "challenges". Since when does Top Gear always show cars "in such a great light"?

I wonder if the upcoming Australian version will be any good...

By the way, from the last episode: I'm with May/Markleshark/iGav on the RS4. If you have a BMW you are a ***, if you have a Merc you are a pimp or hip-hop star, but the Audis are still unsullied with an aura of bling.

The US version is probably going to suck.

Some of the fun challenges that Top Gear does are never going to work here. Greatest driving road? We don't have anything that comes close to what Europe has. Car vs. Public transport? All we have are planes for long distance public transport, and a plane will win unless Captain Slow is flying it. We don't have anything that comes close to the Nurburgring.

And I get the feeling that the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment will blow. This is NBC, and it's filmed in LA, so I bet most of their stars will be washed up Hollywood celebrities who haven't driven in years because either they have a chauffeur, or they have enough DUIs that their license got suspended.
