I thought this was appropriate. :D

That said, I'm a big jamiroquai fan and all, but I think Jay was handed the top spot on a silver platter. Kinda lame, and he even annoyed me.

Absolutely no way that will happen for 2 very important reasons.

1. Power-to-weight ratio will still be vastly inferior.
2. It won't generate anywhere near comparable levels of downforce, which is the main reason why the T1 can do what it does.

Sorry, don't know why, but I was thinking about the Ascari A10 when I wrote that. Ok, then I agree with you. I don't think an improved GT-R can shave 9 seconds off its TG lap time, since it already does it in 1:19.x ;) What I meant was that of all the road cars, it could be the fastest if an "improved" version was later released. It already has the 2nd fastest time ever at the ring.

But I guess if you're going to count the T1 as the fastest car to lap the TG track, you may as well count the Aston Martin DBR9 (or whatever it was called), which was also not a proper road car.

It doesn't.

The fastest road car to lap the track. ;)

But the Caparo is a proper road car, and could have been driven straight onto public roads immediately after setting it's lap time.

The Aston Martin DBR9 could not... if not for its racing slicks alone. ;)

The Caparo is no more a road car than the Radical SR3 or SR8 imho - and, with things like the Atom, Radicals, The Caparo etc - they should be on their own board. That the Atom and Caparo are on the power board, but the Radical SR3 isn't because it's not practical....it's a joke. They just didn't want to piss off Ferrari too much.

I thought he was high on something.

I hope they get the Veyron onto the track this fall. Where do you guys think it will slot? If the T1 reigns supreme will it be in 2nd place, or will the Ascari/Gumpert edge it out?

Exactly. The Caparo isn't a road car. The GT-R is already the 2nd fastest road car to go around the Ring, and one of the fastest to go around the TG track. I'd certainly expect improvement if the V-spec (or Spec V) version was used, as it has an extra 100 hp or so, and is supposed to be 200 kg lighter.

2nd place.

How is it not then?

No it's not.

Extra 40bhp and 91kg apparently.

I'm not entirely convinced, but it's possible... though I still think there's something amiss with the quoted stock factory outputs. ;)

Nissan has consistently under-quoted power figures on many of their sports cars. I didn't really believe all of Clarkson's talk about how he couldn't give a power figure because all the engines are handmade. If the engineering on that car is as good as he says it is (and I'm sure it is), I'm positive that the Nissan engineers have at least a horsepower range within which every engine falls. And I'll bet that range is not very big.

Honda are rumoured to have taken a similar approach with the later NSX's.

Oh without doubt... but the output, weight, performance equation just doesn't seem to add up when you see the times it's capable of producing.

It's undoubtedly an immense car... with I might add, the most aesthetically pleasing in-car interface design... eclipsing even Audi's MMI. :p

The term 'road car' is subjective.

Road Legal isn't - that's a yes or no.

'A Road Car' isn't the same as being road legal however for Top Gear, who refuse to have SR3 on their board.

Now - I don't see how it is any more or less of a road car than the Caparo, the Atom, a Caterham, a Westfield, even a 911 GT3RS.

You can get from A to B in any of them. But you'll arrive at B deaf, exhausted, and broken. And you couldn't take any of them for the weekly shop.

But the point at which you go from 'a toy' to 'a practical means of transport' is subjective, and as such, you either let them ALL in (including the SR3) or have some less flippant than 'speed bumps and ashtrays'

Well, in typical American fashion, I'm massively late to the party.

I've just been opened up to TopGear after a few friends and I were talking about Ferraris over beers the other night, and they asked me if I had ever seen some of the tests of certain Ferraris on TopGear. I said that I'd heard of the show, but never watched it. After getting a proper expletive filled verbal lashing, my friends pulled out their iPhones, started pulling up clips on YouTube, and pushing them into my face.

Given the situation (noisy pub, several beers in me, etc.) I couldn't get a feel for the show, but it looked great. So last night I called up some episodes on BBC OnDemand.

Oh.

My.

God.

I'm smitten. Colors are brighter, birds sing more sweetly, and all the other nonsense cliches for being in love.

I don't know where to begin! I laugh my ass off the entire show. I'm a sucker for anything from across the pond as it is (Gordon Ramsay is my personal hero) and this show has just got it all. I think Captain Slow is my favorite of the hosts at this point, but I'm only four episodes in.
They run the s**t out of those cars, without a care in the world. I don't know where I am in the show's history. The last episode I watched, the guys' moms came out and tested three small cars. The one before that, the Maserati knocked the Enzo from the top spot on the board.

In case I didn't make my point clearly enough, I love this show. I've gotta get caught up so i can participate in this thread!

Good, you can have him.

Same :D I don't even like or care for cars but I love the show.

I don't know how possible it is but we've got a channel here named Dave that basically plays 6 or so (or feels it) Top Gear episodes a day. If you can find a streaming version of that you'll be sorted. Or maybe not since they remove some parts of the show to fit in adverts.
It's how I fell in love with the show though. Grabs dinner, puts TV on, Top Gears on Dave. Grabs tea, puts TV on, Top Gear... :D

I was wondering how Brits felt about him. I can't help myself, I love the guy. Kitchen Nightmares is amazing to me.

I'm not much of a car guy either. I used to be - back in Jr. High and High School, I was obsessed. I still enjoy a good char about them from time to time, though.

But, Top Gear, boy. I'm praying BBC keeps feeding OnDemand with fresh episodes!

I was cringing watching his antics! He was nowhere near as annoying the last time he was on.

Me too!

TG rules! Hammond's cute but think his humour is the most forced. Clarkson & May are hi-larious most of the time. :D

Second that! I'm a brit and can't stand the size of his ego.

Any of you lot seen last week's Harry and Paul, and seen the "Clarkson Island" sketch?

Watch it here!! :)

I really laughed my a** off!

Harry Enfield was on the first "new style" Top Gear way back in 2002... and now it's pay back time for JC.

Absolute brilliance!

Yeah, that was great! Harry and Paul are fantastic! Have you seen the Nelson Manuela iPhone bit? Ha! :D

What did people think of Top Gear Australia?

I thought it was good but they overacted a bit. I'm sure as the season(s?) goes on it will get better.

I hope it stays up and they dont axe the show.

I thought it was crap. One of them is trying too hard to be Hammond, one is trying too hard to establish himself as JC, and the other gets defaulted to May. I wouldn't be so annoyed if that was naturally their personality, but the guy trying to be like Hamster, but more naive, is annoying, as is the guy trying to be boring.

Idk bout this, did they take track/air temps into consideration? What fuel was used? theres so many things to consider when it comes to lap times, but porsche could have something here.

More importantly what tyres? Porsche used their most preferred tyres for the 911s (even though they are only optional on the Turbo) and stuck the GT-R on "road tyres", not the specific tyres that Nissan supply the GT-R on...
