Why can't Apple just go back to anodized aluminum? Screwed us all by the time those flimsy iPod nanos were released.

Would love for Nokia to go back to anodized aluminum too with a future Android phone. Nokia X is garbage. The N8's only issues is Symbian was laggy and the screens were not as responsive.

Go read comments about the N8 now, and people still praise its build quality. That's a six year old device still being raved about while there is probably alot of broken iPhone 4's that didn't hold up well without a case. A great design doesn't need one. Ergonomics and durability matters more.

Talked to a relative who worked selling Samsung smartphones and we agreed that Motorola and Nokia still have the best ergonomics, build quality, and reception. They're pioneers that have been making "cellular phones" longer than any of these Johnny-come-latelys.

A great design should also take a good beating. Not be covered in a case. I bet many will start appreciating the iPhone 7's mediocre design when Apple goes back to glass next year. Another beautiful but fragile design that needs to be treated like jewelry because they crack like eggs.

Ergonomics over Aesthetics
Durability over Aesthetics

For all the praises that Apple gets for aesthetics, they also came up with the top two worst choices for material used for a rear - mirror (for iPods) and glass rears. Wooden backs might catch fire but they still aren't fragile and scratch prone as the iPods and iPhone 4/4s.

Phones should be built to feel comfortable to hold and built to last and not just be built to look good.

Dude, seriously. What are you talking about? Your long-winded posts have had nothing to do with the thread.

Usb b ports are not known for their durability. They are known for the lack of durability.

Out of curiosity, do you ever use the edge on s6 edge? Or is it just for the looks? No matter what a phone looks like, it'll look boring with time.

I had the S6 edge at one point, couldn't find a valid reason to use the "edge" feature.

For those that need an iPhone the 7 will be great otherwise it may be a non necessity Keep in mind that Apple may slip some great feature into the 7 that hasn't leaked yet
In any case.... Don't expect to much and you won t be disappointed.

Glass, Glossy Plastic, Aluminum

You know, the iPhone 5c gets a bad rap for being the ugliest iPhone ever made next to the 3G series. But if it had a matte or rubberized plastic finish instead of glossy, I would've considered it since the face is practically the same as the iPhone 5. The battery doesn't have to be removable but if it had a swappable back cover, it could have sold alot better for customers who prefer function over flash.

Late last night, I actually did see a tiny crack on top of my LG G3 Beat. Matte plastic. Oh, well! I'm telling you, rubberized plastic material is the way to go. Bounce effect. My $30 phones came away unscathed like it never happened. Motorola and Nokia are the best! If an iPhone SE or 6s hit the tile like my LG did, I expect a crack on the top area. Metal isn't indestructible. Moto E2 is my favorite for ergonomics since the Nexus One.

^ A budget phone built to withstand falls unlike expensive glass-made Samsungs, Sonys, and my $180 LG G3 Beat and $250 Xiaomi Mi 3 couldn't do without showing any tiny cosmetic damage. Find build quality that absorbs sudden impact better like in that Nexus One vid. Bounce effect.

It isn't difficult to make a "pretty" design. It is finding a pretty design that is also comfortable to hold and durable to drops. Getting that trifecta is quite rare.

iPhone 4/4s
Aesthetics - 9/10
Ergonomics - 7/10
Durability - 4/10

iPhone 5/5s/SE
Aesthetics - 9/10
Ergonomics - 7/10
Durability - 8/10

iPhone 6/6s/6se
Aesthetics - 7/10
Ergonomics - 9/10
Durability - 8/10
*9/10 for the 6se since water/dust resist

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge
Aesthetics - 9/10
Ergonomics - 8/10
Durability - 6/10

The only device that gets 9's across for me is the Nexus One. My Moto E2 has nearly 3x longer battery life than it and much quicker though. Nexus One also has a better design than the HTC Desire phones that looked like it. That design is also a bit UNIQUE-looking and didn't get played out like other slabs. Blackberry Bold 9000 almost gets the trifecta for me especially for a QWERTY. The faux leather back felt wonderful to hold. Just a bit too thick.

A good iPhone design would look like...
Front - iPhone 2G (chrome bezel)
Back - iPhone 5 series
Shape and size - iPhone 6 or Moto X

My ideal height is 130mm with a "4.5-4.7 display as seen with the Moto X (2013).

Would Apple ever make that perfect iPhone design for us? Of course not! What's the point of upgrading every few years with the perfect iPhone and battery? If it comes in metal, people complain it is chipping off or it got dented from a fall. If glass, it cracks like eggs. If plastic, they go ewww! They want that premium look and feeling. Not another 5c.

Even if Apple made the perfect iPhone inside/out, some of us will just grow bored of it eventually and yearn for something better since technology evolves with newer features every year. The perfect specs and design in 2017 might not be perfect in 2020. The glass is always half empty...

^ Again, a great "overall" design shouldn't need to be covered up by a case. Built to last and not only built to look good, dent, or scrape off...

I'm looking forward the iPhone 7, I hope it comes with wireless charging and I highly support the removal of headphone jack, but I know I won't buy it because of the same **** sign and boring design.

I know I'll wait for the next SE 2!

The wireless charging always cracks me up. You still have to leave it on a charging station. iPhone 7 isn't a massive upgrade. I'll be buying a used 6s plus and sell my 6 plus. From what I read so far albeit all rumers, there is nothing at all that attracts me to the iPhone 7.

All these iPhone 7 leaks are unbelievably boring. I really hope Apple surprise us with new groundbreaking features that we didn't expect.

So far, the iPhone 7 leaks make it look like iPhone 6 minus the headphone jack. Meaning, the iPhone 6s sounds like a bigger upgrade to the previous model than the 7 compared to iPhone 6s. which is a real shame.

Apple better call this iPhone , 6s 2 or something.
