According to Websters Dictionary, you're both wrong. This is the entry for Chili Dog:

Main Entry: chili dog
Function: noun
: a hot dog topped with chili

And there is no entry for Coney Dog. But there is this entry for Chili Con Carne:

Main Entry: chili con car·ne
Pronunciation: "chi-lE-"kän-'kär-nE, -k&n-
Function: noun
Etymology: American Spanish chile con carne chili with meat
: a spiced stew of ground beef and minced chilies or chili powder usually with beans

Therefore, they are both chili dogs.

I read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coney_dog and it makes it even worse.

It shows the "runny style" in the pic, but then uses the names interchangabley in the description/history (of both types, to boot).

Perhaps it is a "Soda vs Pop" kind of thing

Precisely! And all in good fun of course- just like I hope you were poking good fun at our chili dogs

I was in no way joking abot the chilli dogs... they do look horrid. especially A :)

You have to admit, traditional English cooking is a bit on the heavy side ;)

It might be heavy were you've eaten it... but in cold british winter its vital. Bangers and mash, shepherds pie, pie and mash, casserole etc all warm you to your feet.

We have however grown into a completely multicultural society now and have foods from all over the world as a standard part of our cuisine.

I think I'm going to brew me a pot of chili this weekend!

Honey, leave the windows open!

There are specific recipes for "Coney Island Sauce" (note the "sauce" part) everywhere on the Web, and having been to Coney Island and the Nathans there, I can attest that the runny variety is the real deal. :)

According to Nathan's menu, they only offer "Chili Dogs:"
http://www.nathansfamous.com/nathans/inside/htmls/menu_full.php

Apparently (per Wikipedia), New Yorkers call both variarities "Michigans."

Newfound local pride (if they tasted better) :)

How about a tofu dog:)

Bless (Mines:) )

Only if it is covered in fake meat and chili sauce.

To be honest, with the right amount of spices, I bet it would taste just the same.

Hotdogs aren't exactly flavorful things. I see them as a meat tube in which to add other flavors and toppings to. Infact, someone should invent a hot dog "pocket."

(Picturing a pink, shiny, purse-shaped "pocket" made from beef parts smooshed into shape nearly made me hurl...)

From Dictionary widget:

wie.ner
noun

1. a franfurter or similar sausage.
2. another term for WEENIE.

:D
