Just bought a Mac?
Feeling a little unsure of yourself with all the ammo coming from that behemoth "the unofficial "I'm waiting for Arrandale" thread ..."?

Well, you've come to the right place to share your elation. And rejoice we should. 32nm "tock", 22nm "tick", 8 cores, the real mobile manifestation of Nehalem. Yes, Sandy Bridge, we're holding over for your imminent appearance!!! :D

I'm still waiting for the PowerPC to come back, I know it will. :p

Honestly, a couple of years back we waited for Merom, then Santa Rosa, then Penryn, then Nahalem and so on....

Such a pity how the geeks here go crazy over processors they will never use to their full extent. All most people here are going to do is surf the damn web and play a few games, use iTunes and check their email. None of this good stuff needs a processor better than the original Core Duo from the first Macbook Pro. :p

Sandy Bridge? Heck, I'm still waiting for the G5!

/me plops down with his PowerBook G4 and patiently awaits the PBG5

I always laugh when I read this.

It's funny. Apple had just released the PMG5 and it was awesome. I hadn't ever been interested in Mac before that. So I looked at Apple's site and saw that the PowerBook was still on G4 processors. I googled "G5 PowerBook" and came across MacRumors. Over 2,000 posts later and I'm still waiting, though I hear that we might get an announcement this Tuesday. :D

I was actually thinking about starting this thread today haha.

I just bought my 13” MBP, but my next upgrade will be SB...I hope in 2011/12

Sandy Bridge is an architecture designed for mobile just like merom. It is also from the same design team. That might make it a worth while wait.

Problem is that is might be 2 years away.

Why is it the "unofficial" thread? What deems a thread "official"?

Studies have shown that "official" threads tend to be started by those with small, er, packages. "Unofficial" threads are started by those most in denial. HTH.

octo macbook pro?

so what you're saying is that with sandy bridge there will be octo core macbook pro's?

people are arguing about quad with arrandale, will we skip quad's and jump from 2 to 8 cores? that whould be impressive

aren't any variations with quad or dual with sandy bridge?

octo core + 512gb ssd should be pretty fast .

and that would mean 16 core Mac Pro's? like in a 10 second's boot?

PS: today i saw a lenovo laptop with quad i7 + nv 280m + 6gb ddr3 ram for 2300€

No, we're not saying that at all. No way will the laptop Sandy Bridge be 8 core.

people are arguing about quad with arrandale,

Which doesn't exist.

Would be, but not happening.

aren't any variations with quad or dual with sandy bridge?

No dual, but quad laptop, as I said.

and that would mean 16 core Mac Pro's? like in a 10 second's boot?

Sure, because THAT is all that matters.

PS: today i saw a lenovo laptop with quad i7 + nv 280m + 6gb ddr3 ram for 2300€

A laptop with Bloomfield? I don't think so.
