For those saying make a video, whatever. My iPhone doesn’t go down in bars no matter how I hold it (even with two hands), and especially at my home, where I have a weak signal in the mountains. Anyone that knows me on these forums knows that I don’t make crap up.

I might add that I’m probably more impressed than most with my phone, since I came from the 3G. I think even TheSpaz might like this phone.

To the OP, I have the same issue that you do, in my home, I can get the bars to drop. Driving around, sometimes the bars drop, sometimes they are rock solid. Sitting in the parking lot of my local grocery store (which is across the street from a very big cell tower) can't get it to drop at all no matter what I do, go into Target and I get nothing, barely a bar, in the back of Target, I lose reception completely, maybe because it's a big concrete building, don't know?

I was also in an apple store today and couldn't get the bars to drop on my phone or any of the demo phones. When I asked the genius about it, he told me they have "repeaters" in their store so the signal is always really strong. I don't know what a repeater is but am assuming it has something to do with boosting your reception? I'm sure someone will come along soon to educate me.

I don't seen to have the reception issue, however I live right between two towers and have always had excellent reception near my home...I haven't really been on the road much since I've had the new phone but I will check back in after I have some results...
I do see the signal drop a bar or two depending on where I stand but I had this same issue with 3GS as well...No matter the drop in bars, it never seems to affect call quality or data speeds...

I asked my Apple Store manager about repeaters and they don't have any...I guess it depends on the store...

More tower problem for me than an antenna one, I believe.

The bar fluctuate like a rollercoaster ride whether I hold it or not. And yes, it has a bumper. I live in LA. I pretty much expect this. I remember going to San Diego last weekend and saw at least a dozen people who had an iPhone 4. People everywhere seems to be carrying one now. 1.7mil sold in three days can do that. More overload on the network.

With only one bar, my 3G WEB surfing can act so slow, it harks me back to the late 1990's.

if i hold my iPhone 3GS in a gripped manner i drop bars. my solution was to hold the phone differently. that solved my issue. must just be some thing to do with the phones design.

Those looking to test their phone should do so when they have less than 5 bars.

Please. If you have to go out and hunt down just the exact right place where holding your phone in a specific way will make you lose signal, it's not an issue.

+1 - mine doesn't drop bars. In the time I had my 3G I'd drop about a call a day. 1 in every 10 calls or so. Since launch day I have had zero dropped calls on my 4. My 3G would sometimes go to "no service" just sitting on my desk at the office. I've never seen the 4 at less than full bars there.

For me, this phone is a big improvement.
