I for one am grateful for movies like this, though the guy is goofy, because I didn't do the reading on Twitter or the DevTeam Blog about the bad side effects. Not that I was planning on doing the update without researching first, I'll just wait for comex, but still, some people on here act like you should be reading the DTeam's twitter every second 24/7 and that's simply not how life is.

Yes that is how life is and people should realize it when messing with their iPhone. Complete idiot this guy is in the video and others who failed to read up on something for 3 minutes.

I am glad to see the beta. Yes, it is buggy as hell and has issues with Mail.app multitasking correctly. With that said, my iPad is finally usable as it should be. I'm very grateful for the work of the Dev Team and I hope it all works as it should with an untethered jailbreak via comex's magic soon.

Beta #3
The third beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version extends the fix made in beta2 over to the non-GUI programs too (like the daemons that handle media content). That should cover things like Facetime, Winterboard themes, and embedded videos in iTunes. If you had trouble using the usbmuxd in previous betas, please wait until we incorporate that into redsn0w itself (i.e. don’t bother trying this beta3, just wait for the integration).

So thanks for spreading the word.

Agree.

I think all the griping prompted them to add a huge red beta banner on the site.

Makes me wonder if people even know what a beta is though, especially in the context that redsn0w has been beta for about forever now?

Nice to see there is progress being made publically though.

While the guy was a little goofy (over-serious tone fit for reporting natural disasters), he still made the point that this is a beta and you should stay away from it. He wasn't an idiot that did this to his phone and then freaked out. Hopefully he scared some noobs away from a "disaster"

Yeah, I didn't see anything wrong with the video at all. Not sure why everyone's raggin' on the guy. Seems he knew exactly what he was doing and was just warning everyone off.

Yeah, he didn't seem like he was whining or surprised by anything, he's just informing the public, nothing wrong with that.

  • The word beta is not mentioned in the video title.
  • It takes him 28 seconds to mention it's a BETA
  • He says the following multiple times all in 2:49;
    'Stay Away'
    'Forget about it'
    'Horrible'
    'I'm warning you'
Hyperbolic is the word that comes to mind. Except for the video problem, which has since been corrected, this version of redsnow works just as musclenerd said it would, i.e., if you can live without bluetooth, it works fine.

This is from the article:

Cydia must have your 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved on file.  (As we approach a general release, we’ll provide a way to let you use locally saved hashes too).
You must already have the usbmuxd software installed and running on your Mac (this requirement will eventually go away.

+1 - No one forced the newbs to use and install this beta software.

Don't knock those who installed the beta. Unless the idiots line up to install beta's and discover the problems "agreed many of the problems were already known" then the rest of the community would not benefit from their errors.

no quite, those characters don;t know how to report those error either, they just make moronic youtube video and create thread with all CAP titles. We need experienced testers and developers that are able to send useful feedback so hackers don't waste time trying to replicate or track down the bug, but they just fix them.

Wasn't the last jailbreak released with a big song and dance about it being a "jailbreak for life"
??
I don't know much about these things but this seems to be a lot more hassle than the previous non 'for life' jailbreaks.
Can someone explain it
(someone who actually knows what they are talking about please)

Yes the Geohot limera1n exploit makes all existing devices jailbreakable for life. However, it needs a second exploit to make it untethered. Apple patched the second Comex exploit used in limera1n and Greenpo1son which made them untethered but the devices can still be JB but tethered.

The Geohot exploit cannot be patched in existing hardware but can and will be eventually be patched in new hardware by updating the bootrom.

+1 beta testing is a lot more than simply 'discover[ing] the problems'.
