What have you done? Get that image out of my mind!! :D

My usual routines includes writing SMS applications for clients. Taking phone calls helping them to resolve any issues, running around meeting them as well to provide onsite consultation or training using our platform for their evil corporate plans.

In my free time, I trying to come up with a multi-players games and doing design work.

The grad student/teaching assistant combo pretty much means that I'm either writing a paper or grading a paper

...or reading/posting on MR, of course.:D
so if a student has a complaint about their grade they'll know why.... haha jk

hehe - the sad thing is that most of the posters here have better grammar skills.

We don't really teach grammar explicitly anymore.

I know a lot of college instructors complain about the quality of student writing -- I used to teach at a college, and I'd hear a lot of "What are they teaching these kids in high school?"

Now my response is: "Everything you're taking for granted, and most of what you're complaining about."

I feel like I need a smiley to express that this is not a confrontational reply to your post, but rather a pseudo-instinctual defense mechanism.

Um ...

:)

Sorry - I wasn't trying to imply that high schools don't teach grammar, and I know that students' educational backgrounds vary widely. The biggest problem I encounter is students who just don't care about their work enough to bother with proofreading - or even spellcheck. It has nothing to do with how they were taught in high school, but with the amount of time they're willing to spend on their work and their pride (or lack thereof) in their work.

I don't think you were implying. I think I was reading onto.

But it felt good to write, anway.

My usual summer day consists of waking up @ around noon, and then sitting around for a couple hours on the computer, surfing the net. Then errands if I have any. Then usually baskeball at the park, I play almost everyday. The I get home in the evening and surf the net some more. I don't have a job, and I'm 22. Yea I'm lame... :( I need to get out of here.

i spend most of my time procrastinating, but when I'm actually doing something I'm usually doing something different. From web development to giving children (and the adults sometimes) safety lectures and making sure nobody kills themselves on a miniature railroad.

summer means...
sleep, WoW, MR, hanging out with friends, and applying for jobs. hopefully one of my applications will get accepted. i got an interview at fiesta texas and was offered a job but my mom said its too far from my house :(

in the fall i'll be taking 5 AP classes which will be fun...i'd be taking 6 but my counselor won't let me drop this particular elective which is required for the magnet program i'm in.

Given that this thread is also meant to expose the harsh realities of your work, I'll quickly summarize my crappy work night. I actually had a lot of fun tonight, it just wasn't profitable. I am a go-go dancer on Wednesday to Saturday nights. Tonight I only earned 9 dollars and 66% of it was from my boss :). I don't go-go dance to make money, I do it because I like to dance and I have a lot of fun doing it in my underwear, but the money aspect is an extremely nice benefit. But I decided I'd have a late dinner before going to the club, so I went to the only place that was open within walking distance - Wendy's. Bad idea. My two junior bacon cheese burgers and fries gave me an awful stomach ache. Not the best for dancing. But as soon as I got there I bumped into a friend of mine and he was in pain too from straining an arm while working out. So we chatted and wallowed in our self pity together. That was fun. Then I decided I'd see how my stomach felt if I gave it a little movement. I went to the dance floor and started to dance (fully clothed). As soon as I started dancing another friend showed up. I chatted with him for a while. I decided that my stomach felt okay enough to dance. I took off all my clothes and got in my normal spot on the go-go bar. I didn't feel sexy at all. I was burping every 5 seconds, and I felt like poo-pooing. Even though my stomach was fine at this point, I decided I didn't want to dance. I sure as hell didn't feel sexy, and when I don't feel sexy I don't dance sexy ;). So I decided I'd call it a night - I put my clothes back on and left with a pitiful 9 bucks :). Before leaving I chatted with the club owner for a while and I've been wanting to get to know him better, so I was glad about that. Despite not feeling sexy, I had fun; I got to chat with two friends that I was glad to see and I at least got myself on the dance floor for 15-20 minutes.

Tomorrow night I should feel better :). And if not, then surely I will Saturday night.

I'm a law student. I spend most of the day pretending to understand some 120 page case judgement I'm reading (when I know in the end I'm just going to google the case and find out what the hell I was reading actually meant). Then I'll go to a lecture and pretend to understand the lecturer. Then I'll go to a seminar and pretend to find interesting what I pretended to understand, surrounded by people who pretend that they find the law interesting (when in reality mummy and daddy have forced them to take the degree/they want to be rich when they graduate). Then I'll go home and pretend the whole tedious cycle isn't destroying me by getting blind drunk.
don't quit w/ the pretending. 15 yrs ago I did pretty much what you're doing now. but believe it or not, I've turned into a pretty successful barrister/lawyer now. Listed in Legal500 and Law & Practice. :D of course, there came the realization somewhere in the past 15 yrs that I had to take it seriously to be where I am now. I guess that would be 10 yrs ago, when I finally told myself that I have to work my butt off, and I did.

Maybe one day you'll understand.

Hmm, funny. I was going to say the same thing to you.

I don't mean to be a killjoy, but no one knows the secret to life, least of all a 15 year old who hasn't even experienced it yet...

I'm happy that you're happy, but don't expect it to continue indefinitely. Happiness is harder than you think sometimes. Someday things might change.

I usually oversleep, miss lectures and then spend the rest of the day on the internet. I'm addicted to it. Starting to play WoW recently was actually a way to kick my addiction. During exam times I procrastinate all day and then study non stop for 4-8 hours late at night.

My shortcuts to Yahoo Mail, BBC News, Google and Mac Rumours in safari are actually worn down, the metallic look around them is scratched and tarnished through over use.

My job title is "Business Systems Analyst"

What I do is basically computer support. I work trouble tickets for internal customers at a call center to make sure the PC's are up and functioning for them to receive calls and collect money for a well known communications company.

I also do web work on a few internal websites that I am in charge of that deal with documentation and communication between 3 of our other centers. One is a forum for communicating and one is a Wiki for our documentation sharing.

I also assist our telephony administrator with several things from time to time...Working with QA software, punching down new lines for use...etc.

Lots of stuff. :D

Good luck with that Emerson - truly. I hate to say it but when your parents find out, they are going to majorly flip. :(

Ok guys, brace yourselves for
One exciting day in the life of a machine operator
Well, that's what I'm doing now, sometimes I do other stuff. We make plastic crap. Funnels, bondo spreaders, and recently car parts. We make the 4x4 logo thingy on the dashboard of some Ford automobile. The job I'm currently running is part of the fan system, I think. I load 4 metal inserts onto the mold and press a button. Then I wait...ugg...then the mold ejects four molded parts, I pick them off and do that over and over again. For 8 hours. It sucks. Thank God for iPods...I'd die without one. Sometimes I get to do QC, in which I collect samples from each machine, go and sit in the nice air conditioned office, and I measure the parts with really cool instruments. So that's my day, from 3pm to 11pm.
I told you it was exciting. ;)

I'm a freight forwarder and currently working in the import/export department.

my daily work is writing invoices, offers etc, staying in contact with clients and lots of internatioal partners. most of the time quite boring tbh... unless something 'unusal' happens...

but only two more weeks before i quit working and am off for an exchange year to america in august :) can't wait :)

I'm a researcher in semiconductors at CNRS (French National Lab System) for a year doing a post-doc. Mostly I do crystal growth and characterization. So I get in to work around 8:30, get the system prepped for the day's growth, which takes till around 11:30. A lot of this time is waiting around for things to heat up/cool down, so that's when most of my MR time is spent :). Once things are up and going I'll start a growth and head off to lunch. After lunch it's mainly monitoring the systems and doing any characterization work on the samples we made in the prior days (atomic force microscopy, SEMs, x-ray, stuff like that). In the downtimes I'll check email, read journal articles to stay current, and work on any publications or presentations that are coming up. I don't spend too much time in meetings here, which is quite nice.

My days are never the same as I work retail. But Im going for a degree in biology. No idea what to do with it. I just want to travel and not work so Im hoping to just do that for awhile and then fall back on my degree whenever its time to settle down.
