Its one thing i really thought looked well implemented on Palm Pre ... that small little generic notification bar...

What happens if you're running an IM+twitter app in push-notification? Will you have to click "ok" on dozens of popup windows?

That single pop-up window seems not very elegant whereas the lower scrolling bar with the ability to drag it into a full-screen is a great idea

It's possible that some new features are tied to new hardware and couldn't be announced...

I suspect that's a hardware issue that'll be on the new handset only.

I don't think it is - Apple have a patent for sending remote control signals via the mic terminal on a 3.5mm mini-jack I believe, which is utilised on the iPod nano and classic. The iPhones have the same mini-jack AFAIK so I can't see what hardware differences there would be. There has previously been rumours that Apple will add this functionality - here's hoping.
