emac and 1st gen nano = worst desgins

I like my Nano. It's a bit scuffed up, but I think I am probably the least anal Apple product owner. I once bought a 12" PowerBook and when I opened the box there was a bit of dust in it - and I didn't even post about it online and them go to the Apple Store to demand a refund and a free Power Mac.

The Mac Portable was pretty poor design - not least because it weighed a tonne. That said I still have one under my bed for posterity. Was my first ever Mac back in 1990.

Its gotta be the hockey puck and its keyboard.

I used to love that little round mouse. But now that my hands are too damn big, it isn't any fun to use it any more.

And those keyboards are harder than hell to type on.

Which is probably why all of the PM 5400s and G3 All-in-Ones with their at least decent Apple Design Keyboards in the computer lab at my school are getting replaced with G3 iMacs. With these keyboards. And mice. I thought it was bad just with the B&W Power Macs, but I haven't seen anything yet.

But at least now our computer lab desktops will all be OS 9!

o, how i get joy in the simple things, like us having all of our lab computers on an eight year old OS. oh well, I always liked the iBooks with 10.2.8 better anyway.

All in ones would get my vote.......... because by staying with all in ones they killed off PCI slots,Video cards,Tv cards, upgrades, etc. The All in One killed Mac's Market in my view. Then they started the crippling game of crippling the all in one for PowerMac, Then they lost more market because many people who had PCs had a monitor allready so didnt buy the all in one concept, then they introduce a Mini which started out good but then they crippled it for the All in ones. So here Apple is with plenty of $$$ in the bank yet 5% of the market which means no one makes Mac software and Apple is now Forced to run Windows because it MUST!

All in ones and the crippling that came with them and the lost marketshare that followed through the years. Whats the point of a Mac that has to run Windows? Apple should have been doing things to expand Mac marketshare the past 10 years, instead they were looking at short term Profit like many American companys. Then they scratch their head years later and wonder why? GM & Ford come to mind.

I have to say that was a piece of crap. Even though I was born after it.

The G3 iBook clamshells (ie toilet seats) were the ugliest ever to come out of Cupertino. They were so smitten with the success of the iMac G3s that they blindly parlayed the design over to the laptops with aesthetically disastrous consequences.

In terms of worst usability design, the hockey puck mouse and its partner in crime, the awful iMac Blueberry keyboard are the winners in the "I must've been smoking crack" category in the pantheon of bad design.

Lets think:

The //c
The Mac Portable
The Quadra 660av

And the cube Cassie!!! Why?!?! It is a beautiful piece of kit

I agree with most of the bad designs already mentioned... but I thought I'd add the ipod shuffle... both old and new designs. It's small but ugly imho.

yt

some how I do not think apple will ever live down those POS hockey puck mice they made many years ago and I do not think they should ever be allowed to because that had to be one of the dumbest anti-apple things ever done by apple. It failed at being easy to use, it failed at even being usable. It was a piss poor apple product that went against everything apple stood for. It was not think different it was think like an idiot.

It was not think different it was think like an idiot.

Was it different, yes
Did it look good, yes
Was it part of one of the most revolutionary computers ever, yes

That was a nice design idea. Personally, i do not know why people hated them. OK, i was using them with small hands (only 7 when i got one) but kids loved them. They were a nice looking design: I actually have one as an ornament

What is wrong with the IIc? The first semi-portable Apple!

The cube's design... Too flimsy, too...cubeish-ish.:D

I agre, that mouse was just unusable. It made a great pendulum though :D

Why do I have to be "that idiot" in every discussion I get in? I Love those things. They were easy to use, plus the stares you got from PC users.:)

I'm in the exact same situation

Well the imacs were great. We actually have many of them in the house. To preserve the design, we are making one of the imacquariums this summer as a project (i get easily bored) after AS levels. The mice loks great though. I have aken one apart, taken the cable out and have that as an ornament. Thinking of doing the same to another but fill it with something heavy and use it as a paperweight

I dunno. ! have just neer liked the look of it. It just doesn't seem to be in proportion to me.

Well... It wasnt really a cube as it had the extra clear bits on the boltom but it looks great

Well there is you, psychofreak and I who disagree. They are great

Worst eh?

The "Special" menu.
The colored computer case.
The coating on 1st gen Nanos and 5th gen iPods.
Live Type.

The 80's sucked, so, you can't blame them for that.

:D

hmm I have a few other horrible designs....

1. nosy imac g3 hard drives----used to drive me crazy

2. Powermac 9500 case.... you had to remove the entire motherboard to upgrade the ram

3. powerbook g3 wallstreet 12"... the screens on those things sucked!
