So now that it's been quite confirmed and displayed on multiple YouTube reviews, that the glorious Midnight color is a total fingerprint hog, anyone reconsidering their choice of color?

I'm on the fence. I've been wanting a black-ish MacBook since what, the last one in 2006 or so. I can probably deal with the fingerprints. Right? Right. Right……? T_T

Either other color or wear gloves? Or just try to ignore them and wipe your Mac once in a while.

If you don't like the fingerprints at all, then going for something like Space Gray might be the best option. Not as dark as Midnight, but it won't show as much fingerprints.

I also suggest going to an Apple Store to see in them in person and see if the fingerprints are really that intrusive.

I prefer the classic silver. But if midnight was my thing, I might reconsider it based on the fingerprint issue.

I guess it depends on how you feel about fingerprints on your stuff in general. It bugs me to see the fingerprints on my keyboard keys, which is their natural habitat. My hands are super clean and it still looks like I was eating fried chicken while I was typing 🤷‍♂️

am on the fence as well. i was sure i wanted the midnight... but i spend a lot of time wiping up fingerprints on my black matte desk. so... will it just be more of the same? or will i want to cover the whole thing with gaffer tape and never see midnight again... 🤔

This was confirmed back during WWDC a month ago. Why is anyone surprised now? People were warned early on this was the case.

because (as was discussed on this forum), at the WWDC... lots of people handled the new airs. which is why i personally waited for the youtube & tech site reviews. so, yes, it's an issue (manageable, but an issue).

i mean, i don't share my macbook with dozens or hundreds of people (am just weird like that 🤣)

how oily are you? thats what it will come down to..

it literally takes one swipe of your sleeve to clean it.. I wouldn't worry about it.

I’ve just cancelled my order. I was totally going to get midnight but now I’m unsure and considering starlight. I want to see it in person before deciding

No way, Midnight all day. Good excuse to improve your hand hygiene. The fingerprints are grease and oil. Wash your hands more frequently and invest $20 in a nice microfiber cleaning set. Done.

Lastly, just because you don't see them as easily on the other colors doesn't mean they're not there.

don't think it's that simple. it's not (just) about hand hygiene, but about the finish on the air itself. it's going to get fingerprints no matter what.

i don't mind wiping down my space grey macbook occasionally... it rarely needs it. the midnight is going to need a lot more... babying, and not sure i want to be doing that all the time. i want to work on my mac, not polish it like it's the 80s, and i just bought a 60s corvette that i never drive, but polish all the time.

i want to drive my macbook air ☺️

Even stuff that shouldn’t be covered with fingerprints are covered with fingerprints in the Apple Store. 😂

Well said. It just makes me wonder if people are buying this laptop to actually use it, or to just look at it with the lid closed.

I doubt those complaining wipe down their car every time there is a smudge or spec of dirt or dust etc on the paint job or glass, much less a lot of other more valuable purchases and yet, so many here are getting hung up on fingerprints that can easily be wiped off.

By all means get the color you like but, get a more consistent and logical argument to complain about. The song you are dancing to is out of tune.

Im sure midnight will sell well despite the fingerprint situation. If it was offered on the MBP's I would consider it and the finger prints wouldn't really bother me over time.

Now, I hope in the near future a matte black or a really dark space grey is an option. Fingerprints or not I would be sold (again, if the other upgrades to the machine warrant it).

Couldn’t agree more and the reason I did not order Midnight. Nothing new to see here.

It's the nature of it.

I have a Samsung like this. Not an issue me. But is for you apparently. (Chipping of the paint around ports is not good).

This color is problematic with autos also, and anything else that is exposed to the elements
