People are disgusting. I remember a work colleague sat in the backseat of my car when group of us went to lunch. I saw on my way home later that day I saw the thickest dirty ass handprint on the back glass. Like wtf, how is your hands that caked with crud to leave such a thick dirty hand print. That was the last time they rode in my car.

OK so I went to go pick up my Midnight at the Apple Store. Before having the dude bring it out, I went to go play with the Midnight and Starlight floor models.

Straight up, the Midnight is not bad at all with the fingerprints. I handled the freshly-wiped floor model and nothing jumped out at me, for real. And I hate hate hate glossy stuff and fingerprints – the glass on iDevices are really the only mandatory exception, and even then I wipe mine pretty often.

Just unboxed my own Midnight model, handled it, and didn't leave any prints. Now of course they will be more visible when they are left, but normal handling and use didn't leave any noticeable prints. (And honestly I'm kinda an oily person T___T )

Which means people probably just don't wash their damn hands. Y'all gross. Looking at you, every-YouTuber that has reviewed Midnight. I really encourage everyone to at least check out Midnight in person at a store and touch it a lot before bouncing to another color due to fingerprint hubbub… including my own thread right here. ;)

Keep up that copium.
Tried it myself and its a definite fingerprint magnet - even with freshly sanitised hands. It's nothing to do with people being gross and not washing, give it a rest.

its shocking to me that Apple, for all their money and resources, couldn't manufacture a finish that wouldn't be a fingerprint magnet.

The matte black iPhone 7 for example wasn't all that bad in that regard.

Just saw the MacBook Air in the apple store and honestly midnight colour isn’t nice, it’s a blue tint that just looks odd and the fingerprints wow even the manager at the store said they keep cleaning it but just holding it made so many finger prints, why did apple release this colour with this issue
Think of it this way, it's a good color to reduce the chance of your MacBook being stolen. No pesky thief would know that it's a MacBook since it's hard to flex that thing in public with that Apple logo barely visible. Also if they do know that it's a MacBook, they would not want to touch them gross oily fingerprints anyway.

my latest purchase will stop anyone including me from noticing my fingerprints...

Same. I gave some colleagues a lift recently and there were big greasy prints on the paint where they closed the reardoors. My hands never produce that level of grease.
Same when someone borrows my phone to speak to the person I called and phone comes back with giant greasy blob on the screen from their ear.

Fingerprints? then we need to discuss the "extra" weight of all that oil. That is going to tip the scales and the MBA will no longer be the lightest laptop.
Oh the horrors.

No way, Midnight all day. Good excuse to improve your hand hygiene. The fingerprints are grease and oil. Wash your hands more frequently and invest $20 in a nice microfiber cleaning set. Done.

Lastly, just because you don't see them as easily on the other colors doesn't mean they're not there.
You can wash your hands all day with Palmolive or Dawn but you still are going to have oil on your fingertips.

i just ordered 1000 pairs of surgical gloves, so will not have to even see if fingerprints are an issue on the midnight air (i like the sound of that, sounds like a 70s rock group: "the midnight air").

i'll be able to then type: "i am seeing no fingerprints on my new macbook air", and it will be the truth.

My suspicion is that you're probably too busy actually using the laptop to notice.
There's definitely a bit of that. And also as has been mentioned on other threads, in lower light, the laptop looks black and you genuinely can't see any fingerprints. I think there's some smudges on the palmist areas, but I can't see them just now. If it bugs me, I'll clean it in the morning.

I still don't think its as bad when its your own personal laptop that you're sitting using - in the Store, lots of different people are going to be handling it.

So, I'm guessing these smudges will continue to just be easily wiped-off? There's no risk some of them will become more stubborn to remove and/or damage the finish?

Nothing to do with hygiene, seriously! Midnight is a fingerprint magnet in comparison to others.

So now that it's been quite confirmed and displayed on multiple YouTube reviews, that the glorious Midnight color is a total fingerprint hog, anyone reconsidering their choice of color?

I'm on the fence. I've been wanting a black-ish MacBook since what, the last one in 2006 or so. I can probably deal with the fingerprints. Right? Right. Right……? T_T

Go with Space Grey or Silver! :)
